Background: It is valuable to predict the time to the development of castration-resistant prostate cancer (CRPC) in patients with advanced prostate cancer (PCa). This study aimed to build and validate a nomogram incorporating the clinicopathologic characteristics and the parameters of contrast-enhanced ultrasonography (CEUS) to predict the time to CRPC after androgen deprivation therapy (ADT).

Methods: Patients with PCa were divided into the training (n = 183) and validation cohorts (n = 37) for nomogram construction and validation.

Hyperinsulinemia negatively affects the association between insulin resistance and blood pressure.

Nutr Metab Cardiovasc Dis

November 2021

Hangzhou Aeronautical Sanatorium for Special Service of China Air Force, No. 27, Yang Gong Di, Xihu District, Hangzhou, Zhejiang, 310007, China. Electronic address:

Background And Aims: Although hyperinsulinemia and insulin resistance (IR) together cause metabolic diseases, the available evidence fails to link hyperinsulinemia with blood pressure (BP) elevation. To further understand the role of hyperinsulinemia in the pathophysiology of hypertension, we conducted this study to investigate the moderating effect of fasting insulin (FINS) on the association between IR and BP.

Methods And Results: The health screening data of 72,076 individuals were analyzed for this moderation analysis.

Parkinson's disease (PD) is a neurodegenerative movement disease that includes non-motor symptoms such as cognitive impairment. Long-term mind-body exercise has been shown to improve cognitive ability in PD patients, but the methods of assessment and intervention were inconsistent across studies. Wuqinxi is a mind-body exercise that is easy to learn, has few physical and cognitive demands, and is recommended for PD patients.

Background: The early symptoms of patients with elevated intracranial pressure (ICP) after intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH) are easily overlooked, which will result in missing the optimal opportunity for clinical intervention. However, it is difficult for ICH patients admitted to the neurology department to receive invasive ICP monitoring, although it is crucial for the early identification of neurologic deterioration (ND).

Objective: The aim of this study is to investigate the association between the changes of transcranial Doppler (TCD) variables and ND after onset and establish a nomogram for predicting the short-term outcome of ICH.

Our objective of this study is to determine the molecular mechanism of MAPKs (mitogen activated protein kinase systems) on TRPV4 (transient receptor potential vanilloid 4)-mediated trigeminal neuralgia (TN). Partial chronic constriction injury of the infraorbital nerve (CCI-ION) ligation model was used in this research. When treated with antagonists of p38, JNK or ERK, the mechanical hyperalgesia threshold, nerve fiber disorder, myelinoclasis, and Schwann cells proliferation could be reversed.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates miR-466's role in gastric cancer peritoneal metastasis, finding that its expression is lower in cancer cells and tissues compared to controls.
  • miR-466's increased expression inhibits key cancer behaviors, like proliferation and invasion, suggesting it acts as a suppressor in gastric cancer.
  • The findings indicate that miR-466 may serve as a valuable biomarker for prognosis and a potential therapeutic target for treating gastric cancer patients with peritoneal metastasis.

Motor symptom disorders in patients with Parkinson disease (PD) are closely related to reduced inhibitory ability. Although exercise has been shown to improve this ability in patients with PD, its effects on proactive and reactive inhibition have not been determined. Most previous studies of inhibitory control disorder in people with PD have been behavioral, and little attention has been paid to functional cortical connectivity.

Shanghai Clinical Research Center of Bone Disease, Department of Osteoporosis and Bone Diseases, Shanghai Jiaotong University Affiliated Sixth People's Hospital, Yishan Road 600, Shanghai 200233, China.

Objective: The purpose of this study was to explore the effect of the gene polymorphisms on body composition in Chinese nuclear families with male offspring.

Methods: 1,016 individuals were recruited from 335 Chinese nuclear families with male offspring. The nuclear families consist of at least one male offspring aged 18 to 44.

Background And Objective: To automatically identify and locate various types and states of the ureteral orifice (UO) in real endoscopy scenarios, we developed and verified a real-time computer-aided UO detection and tracking system using an improved real-time deep convolutional neural network and a robust tracking algorithm.

Methods: The single-shot multibox detector (SSD) was refined to perform the detection task. We trained both the SSD and Refined-SSD using 447 resectoscopy images with UO and tested them on 818 ureteroscopy images.

The COVID-19 (here specifically called Worldwide Acute Respiratory Syndrome, WARS) pandemic is surging worldwide. Unfortunately, no specific drug meets the urgent need to fight this pandemic, leading to thousands of deaths. The theory of host-directed therapies (HDTs) is viewed as the ideal means to rephrase the treatment of infectious diseases.

The current study aimed to investigate the role and underlying mechanisms of circ_LARP4 in diabetic nephropathy (DN). Here, mouse mesangial cells (SV40-MES13) were cultured with 30 mM glucose to establish a DN cellular model. The qRT-PCR results indicated that circ_LARP4 expression was downregulated in the DN cellular model compared to that in the control cells.

Longitudinal associations between metabolic score for visceral fat and hyperuricemia in non-obese adults.

Nutr Metab Cardiovasc Dis

September 2020

Department of Traffic Management Engineering, Zhejiang Police College, Hangzhou, China. Electronic address:

Background And Aims: The assessment of visceral adiposity is of great significance for the prevention of hyperuricemia (HUA), especially in non-obese individuals. The metabolic score for visceral fat (METS-VF) is a newly proposed surrogate of visceral obesity. We aimed to evaluate the longitudinal associations of METS-VF with the risk of HUA in non-obese adults.

Objective The tests of three types of auditory evoked potentials (AEPs) were performed on normal young adults, to understand the frequency characteristics of different testing methods and the relationship between response threshold and pure tone audiometry threshold of different methods, and to discuss the forensic value of 3 types of AEPs to evaluate hearing function. Methods Twenty normal young adults were selected, their standard pure tone audiometry threshold, short-term pure tone audiometry threshold and the response threshold of 3 types of AEPs (tone burst-auditory brainstem response, 40 Hz auditory event-related potential and slow vertex response) at 0.5 kHz, 1.

Motor imagery (MI), the mental rehearsal of a movement without muscle activation, combined with motor practice (MP) improves the performance of athletes and promotes rehabilitation of motor function among patients with brain injury. The actual hand posture influences the mental simulation of hand movements such that the ability of MI to affect corticospinal excitability is enhanced when the actual hand posture is consistent with the imagined movement of the hand. However, how MP combined with matched or mismatched hand posture MI modulates hand motor skill performance and the underlying neural mechanisms remain unclear.

Background: Some patients with prostate cancer (PCa) will experience biochemical recurrence (BCR) after treatment. Current researches have identified the influencing factors of BCR, but these factors are difficult to quantify and hence unable to accurately predict the BCR in PCa patients.

Objective: To explore the value of contrast-enhanced ultrasound (CEUS) indicators in predicting the BCR after treatment by evaluating the association between them.

This study aimed to investigate the specific function of TRIM59 in chondrocytes and its association with the pathophysiology of osteoarthritis (OA). We observed the downregulated TRIM59 expression in OA cartilage compared to normal tissues.
