Objective: Non-invasive surgical approaches, including boiling histotripsy (BH), are currently being developed for the treatment of brain disorders aiming to avoid craniotomy and exposure of intervening tissues, and, thus, minimize associated complications. This work aimed to demonstrate the feasibility of BH for mechanical fractionation of human brain tissues ex vivo under B-mode guidance, with preliminary measurements of tissue stiffness via shear wave elastography.
Methods: Young's moduli of 25 human autopsy brain samples obtained from de-identified patients of 51-91 y old (median 77 y old) were measured via shear wave elastography prior to BH sonication.

Hypersensitivity pneumonitis (HP) is one of the most common interstitial lung diseases, the manifestations of which are diverse, and the diagnosis is complex and requires a multidisciplinary approach. HP is an immunologically determined disease in response to inhaled antigens. The main feature of the disease is terminal bronchiole's involvement accompanied by interstitial inflammation and/or fibrosis together with the presence of non-necrotizing granulomas in the interalveolar septa and bronchioles.

p.Asn1303Lys (N1303K) is a common missense variant of the gene, causing cystic fibrosis (CF). In this study, we initially evaluated the influence of modulators on the restoration of N1303K- function using intestinal organoids derived from four CF patients expressing the N1303K variant.

This syndrome is characterized by the occurrence of parathyroid tumors, gastroenteropancreatic neuroendocrine tumors, pituitary adenomas, as well as other endocrine and non-endocrine tumors. If a patient with the MEN-1 phenotype carry no mutations in the MEN1 gene, the condition considers a phenocopy of syndrome (phMEN1).

The acoustic waves of higher orders propagating in a layered structure consisting of a silicon plate coated with piezoelectric and/or films were used for the development of a sensor with selective sensitivity to liquid viscosity in the range of 1-1500 cP. In that range, this sensor possessed low sensitivity to liquid conductivity and temperature T in the ranges of 0-2 S/m and 0-55 °C, respectively. The amplitude responses insensitive to the temperature instead of the phase were used to provide the necessary selectivity.

To date, pulmonary fibrosis remains an unmet medical need. In this study, we evaluated the potency of mesenchymal stromal cell (MSC) secretome components to prevent pulmonary fibrosis development and facilitate fibrosis resolution. Surprisingly, the intratracheal application of extracellular vesicles (MSC-EVs) or the vesicle-depleted secretome fraction (MSC-SF) was not able to prevent lung fibrosis when applied immediately after the injury caused by bleomycin instillation in mice.

Background: Hypersensitivity pneumonitis (HP) is an interstitial lung disease (ILD) that occurs in susceptible individuals in response to various inhaled antigens. The fibrotic phenotype of HP is characterized by disease progression and can lead to pulmonary hypertension (PH). The aim of this study was to estimate the prevalence of PH and to identify predictors of PH in patients with chronic HP.

Focused ultrasound technologies are of growing interest for noninvasive ablation of localized prostate cancer (PCa). Here we present the results of the first case study evaluating the feasibility of non-thermal mechanical ablation of human prostate adenocarcinoma tissue using the boiling histotripsy (BH) method on ex vivo tissue. High intensity focused ultrasound field was generated using a 1.

Unlabelled: Hypersensitivity pneumonitis (HP) is an interstitial lung disease (ILD) resulting from an immune-mediated response in susceptible and sensitized individuals to a large variety of inhaled antigens. Chronic HP with a fibrotic phenotype is characterized by disease progression and a dismal prognosis. The aim of this study was to identify predictors of progression and mortality in patients with chronic HP in real clinical practice.

As most of the patients present with macroadenomas, surgical treatment is not always successful, even with the expert level of a neurosurgeon. Assessment of the postoperative remission rates in acromegaly preoperative predictors of treatment efficacy is an urgent task of modern research.

The novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19) pandemic has become the biggest challenge to global and national health systems in the last 100 years. At the same time, the rapid spread of COVID-19, which required the introduction of quarantine measures, the need to maintain social distance and isolate the infected, spurred the development of information technology (IT). In healthcare, information technology has begun to play the role of support systems for various types of medical activities that have experienced a tremendous increase in workload.

Boiling histotripsy (BH) is a focused ultrasound technology that uses millisecond-long pulses with shock fronts to induce mechanical tissue ablation. The pulsing scheme and mechanisms of BH differ from those of cavitation cloud histotripsy, which was previously developed for benign prostatic hyperplasia. The goal of the work described here was to evaluate the feasibility of using BH to ablate fresh ex vivo human prostate tissue as a proof of principle for developing BH for prostate applications.

Studying the features of changes in markers of oxidative stress (OS) and inflammation indicators in COPD patients depending on the degree of bronchial obstruction is one of the priority directions for improving the prognosis and monitoring of the course of this pathology. We conducted a comparative investigation of changes in markers of OS and apoptosis at the systemic and local levels in patients with moderate to severe COPD during exacerbation and stable phase. 105 patients with COPD aged 46-67 and 21 healthy nonsmoking volunteers comparable in age were examined.

Telocytes are interstitial cells with long, thin processes by which they contact each other and form a network in the interstitium. Myocardial remodeling of adult patients with different forms of atrial fibrillation (AF) occurs with an increase in fibrosis, age-related isolated atrial amyloidosis (IAA), cardiomyocyte hypertrophy and myolysis. This study aimed to determine the ultrastructural and immunohistochemical features of cardiac telocytes in patients with AF and AF + IAA.

This review describes the unique links of the functioning of the nitric oxide cycle in the respiratory tract in normal and pathological conditions. The concept of a nitric oxide cycle has been expanded to include the NO-synthase and NO-synthase-independent component of its synthesis and the accompanying redox cascades in varying degrees of reversible reactions. The role of non-NO-synthase cycle components has been shown.

Determination of markers of systemic inflammation is one of the important directions in the study of pathogenesis and improvement of diagnosis of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), asthma-COPD overlap (ACO), and bronchial asthma (BA). The aim of our work was a comparative study of the features of changes in serum levels of IL-17, IL-18, and TNF- in patients with COPD, ACO, and BA with various severity of the disease, as well as evaluation of the relationship between the level of these cytokines and lung ventilation function. A total of 147 patients with COPD ( = 58), ACO ( = 57), and BA ( = 32) during a stable period have been examined in this study.

Previous phase I studies demonstrated safety and some beneficial effects of mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) in patients with mild to moderate idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF). The aim of our study was to evaluate the safety, tolerability, and efficacy of a high cumulative dose of bone marrow MSCs in patients with rapid progressive course of severe to moderate IPF. Twenty patients with forced ventilation capacity (FVC) ≥40% and diffusing capacity of the lung for carbon monoxide (DLCO) ≥20% with a decline of both >10% over the previous 12 months were randomized into two groups: one group received two intravenous doses of allogeneic MSCs (2 × 10 cells) every 3 months, and the second group received a placebo.
