Background: Traumatic brain injury (TBI) poses significant health challenges, often leading to complications such as venous thromboembolism (VTE) and increased mortality rates. The administration of early post-traumatic prophylaxis (PTP) is intended to mitigate these risks and enhance overall patient recovery. This study aims to perform a systematic review and meta-analysis assessing clinical outcomes associated with early versus late pharmacologic thromboprophylaxis in TBI patients.

Enhanced fibrinolysis or hyperfibrinolysis may lead to life-threatening blood loss, while reduced activity may contribute to thrombosis. Euglobulin clot lysis time (ECLT) is a manual method that measures plasma fibrinolytic activity and is considered the gold standard. However, the data on reference interval is scarce and outdated.

Pulmonary tumoral thrombotic microangiopathy (PTTM) is a rare but fatal complication in patients with cancer that causes death due to sudden respiratory distress, pulmonary hypertension, and right ventricular dysfunction. Early diagnosis and intensive treatment are important for improving patient prognosis. Herein, we describe the clinical and CT findings of 10 patients who were clinically diagnosed with PTTM at our hospital over the past 18 years.

Systemic air embolism, though rare, poses a significant risk as a complication of CT-guided lung lesion ablation. This condition often arises from the formation of a transient bronchovascular fistula, which can occur when a needle punctures the lung or accidentally breaches a pulmonary vein. In this report, we present a case involving acute cerebral infarction resulting from retrograde venous embolism linked to a fistula between the pleural cavity and pulmonary artery after pulmonary ablation.

VTE includes deep vein thrombosis (DVT) and pulmonary embolism (PE). Regular monitoring and risk assessment are crucial for effectively using VTE prevention measures.

There are limited and conflicting data on sex and urban-rural disparities in outcomes of patients with pulmonary embolism (PE) in the reproductive age group. Our object was to assess sex disparities in the reproductive age group cohort. All adult non-elective admissions in the reproductive age group (18-49 years) with a primary diagnosis of PE and with no missing sex/age data were identified using the National Inpatient Sample.

Rationale And Objectives: Triple rule out CT protocols (TRO-CT) have been advocated as a single test to simultaneously evaluate major causes of acute chest pain, in particular acute myocardial infarction (MI), acute pulmonary embolism (PE), and acute aortic syndrome. However, it is unclear what patient populations would benefit from a such comprehensive exam and current guidelines recommend tailoring CT protocols to the most likely diagnosis.
Methods: We retrospectively reviewed TRO-CT scans performed from the Emergency Department (ED) at our institution from April 2021 to April 2022.

Pulmonary thromboembolism (PTE) is a life-threatening illness. It is a great masquerader that mimics many respiratory illnesses, warranting a high index of suspicion for diagnosis. It should be suspected when respiratory illnesses do not respond to the expected course of treatment.

Background: Pulmonary embolism is an important cause of preventable mortality. Treatment strategies depend on risk stratification. High-risk patients, and some intermediate-high-risk patients, require urgent reperfusion therapy.

Background: As society ages, the incidence of osteoporotic vertebral compression fractures steadily rises. Procedures like percutaneous kyphoplasty (PKP) and percutaneous vertebroplasty (PVP) have proven effective in significantly relieving pain in patients with these fractures. While PKP and PVP are minimally invasive, complications can still occur.

It is unclear if CTEPD is associated with exercise pulmonary hypertension (ePH). This cross-sectional study aimed to determine the occurrence of ePH in patients with CTEPD and to identify the haemodynamic changes during exercise.

Polycythemia vera (PV) is a chronic myeloproliferative disorder characterized by increased red blood cell mass, leading to a heightened risk for thrombosis and hemorrhage. While thrombotic complications such as stroke, deep vein thrombosis, and pulmonary embolism are commonly associated with PV, coronary artery syndromes, as the initial presentation, are rare. Here, we present the case of a 73-year-old male who presented with severe chest pain and was diagnosed with non-ST-elevation myocardial infarction (NSTEMI).

Fat embolism syndrome (FES) is a rare but serious complication that can arise after long bone fractures or orthopedic surgeries. This case report presents a 40-year-old male who developed FES following surgical fixation of a femoral shaft fracture using 2 plates. The day after surgery, the patient exhibited tachycardia, respiratory distress, and a fever of 38.

To explore the clinical manifestations and factors leading to misdiagnosis in pulmonary embolism (PE) patients in a cardiology department. We retrospectively analyzed 74 patients diagnosed with PE at our hospital from March 2018 to March 2022, comparing them to 136 patients suspected of PE but excluded by computed tomography pulmonary angiography during the same period. Both groups received the same basic care, including disease counseling, nutritional planning, and monitoring.

Rationale: One of the main characteristics of COVID-19 is the high incidence of venous thromboembolism, particularly pulmonary embolism. Anticoagulation therapy is the primary treatment for pulmonary embolism. Heparin-induced thrombocytopenia (HIT) is an antibody-mediated adverse reaction to heparin that occurs during its use of heparin drugs.

Acute pulmonary thromboembolism (PTE) is a disease with a high mortality rate. Although most patients can recover after timely treatment and intervention during the acute phase, some patients may still have long-term right ventricular dysfunction (RVD), which affects the quality of life and long-term prognosis. A comprehensive understanding of the factors, diagnosis and treatment and management of persistent RVD after acute PTE is crucial for optimizing long-term management for PTE patients and improving their prognosis.

Background: There is an ongoing debate about the most appropriate method for reconstructing the pancreas after a pancreaticoduodenectomy (PD). This study assessed the impact of pancreaticogastrostomy (PG) with an external pancreatic stent on postoperative outcomes following PD in high-risk patients.
Patients And Methods: This study involves a propensity score-matched analysis of high-risk patients who underwent PD with PG reconstruction.

Introduction: Venous thromboembolism (VTE) rarely presents with dizziness as the primary complaint, which can delay diagnosis. We report a rare case of dizziness as the chief complaint for a clot-in-transit and extensive bilateral pulmonary emboli.
Case Description: A 70-year-old woman presented to the emergency room (ER) with dizziness and a fall, without reporting loss of consciousness.
