Background: The optimal radiofrequency application (RFa) parameters for safe and durable pulmonary vein isolation (PVI) are debated. High-power short-duration (HPSD) has been used as an alternative to conventional power delivery (CPD).
Objectives: This study sought to compare HPSD 70 W/9-10 s (HPSD-70) with CPD 25-40 W in patients undergoing PVI.

Objective: Cyanoacrylate closure (CAC) is a minimally invasive technique for treating axial venous reflux. However, the incidence of serious adverse events (AEs) related to CAC is concerning. With an increasing number of patients receiving CAC and insufficient safety data in Japan, this study aimed to investigate the safety profile of CAC, focusing on the types and incidence of AEs.

Dyslipidemia has been established as a potential risk factor for venous thromboembolism (VTE) in several observational studies. Statins and novel lipid-modifying agents are being explored for their potential in VTE prevention, encompassing deep vein thrombosis (DVT), and pulmonary embolism (PE). Nonetheless, conclusive evidence supporting the effectiveness remains uncertain.

Background: Guidelines recommend using high-sensitivity troponin T (hsTnT) and N-terminal pro-B-type natriuretic peptide (NT-proBNP) to risk stratify hemodynamically stable patients with acute pulmonary embolism (PE). However, there are no evidence-based cutoff values defined for this clinical application.
Methods: We performed a single-center, retrospective cohort study of patients with imaging-confirmed PE and hsTnT and/or NT-proBNP (ElecsysTM, Roche) measured 12 h before or 24 h after PE Response Team (PERT) activation.

Coagulation disorder is common among COVID-19 patients, particularly those afflicted with the severe form of the disease. Manifestations of thrombotic complications such as pulmonary embolism, deep vein thrombosis (DVT), ischemic stroke, cardiac infarction and arterial embolism is high in COVID-19 patients which have been assessed in various studies (5).It seems that COVID-19-related coagulopathy is a combination of low-grade DIC and pulmonary thrombotic microangiopathy which can have a significant effect on organ dysfunction in patients with severe COVID-19 (6).

Normal shear stress produced by blood flow is sensed by the vascular endothelium and required for maintenance of the homeostatic functions of the endothelium in systemic conduit and resistance vessels. Many critical illnesses are characterised by periods of abnormally reduced or absent shear stress in the lung (e.g.

Background: There is currently limited work that evaluates the effect of co-morbid hypothyroidism on complications and outcomes following total shoulder arthroplasty (TSA). This study aims to evaluate the impact of hypothyroidism on 90-day medical complications as well as 2-year implant related complications and revision rates following TSA.
Methods: This retrospective database analysis evaluated patients who underwent TSA between October 1, 2015, and March 9, 2022.

Background: When assessing right ventricular (RV) function by echocardiography, some discordance between the deformational indices is predicted based on the influence of RV length. RV free wall longitudinal strain (RVFWS) is relatively independent of RV length, whereas tricuspid annular plane systolic excursion (TAPSE) reflects the strain-length product. Systolic annular velocity (s') (distance over time) is also likely to be influenced by length.

In-hospital case-fatality related to acute pulmonary embolism (PE) has been falling since the beginning of this century. However, annual incidence rates continue to climb, and an increasing number of PE survivors need long-term follow-up, chronic anticoagulation treatment and readmission(s) to the hospital. In European countries, median reimbursed hospital costs for acute PE are still moderate compared to the US, but can increase several-fold in patients with comorbidities and those necessitating potentially life-saving reperfusion treatment.

The growing use of generative artificial intelligence (AI) in the public sphere allows for a greater degree of disseminating information worldwide. For patients, there is a growing body of literature exploring how the generative artificial intelligence models can be used in improving the health literacy of patients, especially in cases of acute pulmonary embolism, where patients require deep, concise understanding of there disease and management. This study measured the readability of the generative responses created by publicly available AI models, and found that ChatGPT, Google Gemini, and Microsoft CoPilot do not currently meet the United States readability recommendations.

Background: Pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) and chronic thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension (CTEPH) are severe, progressive diseases characterized by key symptoms such as dyspnea and fatigue. These symptoms impair physical functioning, with patients struggling to perform their daily activities. One traditional measure of physical functioning and exercise capacity is the 6-minute walk test (6MWT).

Background: Mycoplasma pneumoniae (MP) is a common respiratory pathogen in children that can sometimes lead to extrapulmonary manifestations. Among these, pediatric pulmonary thromboembolism (PE) is clinically rare but carries significant implications. However, it is often underrecognized, and its diagnosis and treatment are not well understood.

Thromboembolic disorders, including deep vein thrombosis (DVT) and pulmonary embolism (PE), are major global health concerns, causing significant morbidity and mortality. Early diagnosis is crucial for effective treatment and improved patient outcomes. Recent research has identified Apelin-13, a bioactive peptide in the apelin family, as a promising diagnostic biomarker for Thromboembolic disorders.

Venoarterial extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (VA-ECMO) has been utilized to treat massive pulmonary embolism (PE) accompanied by cardiac arrest or refractory cardiogenic shock. Our team opted for a femoral-femoral approach for vascular cannulation, using drainage and return cannulas in the common femoral vein and artery, respectively. However, femoral venous cannulation can be limited or challenging due to the presence of thrombus in the inferior vena cava (IVC), making the insertion of the drainage cannula via the femoral vein difficult.

Background: Acute pulmonary embolism (APE) is a critical disease with a high mortality rate, some of the surviving patients may develop chronic thromboembolic pulmonary disease (CTEPD), which affects the patient's prognosis. However, the research on the early diagnosis of CTEPD is limited. This study aimed to establish a prediction model for earlier identification of CTEPD.

Background: Pulmonary embolism (PE) is one of the most challenging diagnoses in emergency medicine, mainly because symptoms range from asymptomatic disease to sudden death. The role of echocardiography in the workup of suspected PE has been supportive and used primarily to assess the right ventricular (RV) size and function, which is important for risk stratification. Several echocardiographic parameters described in the literature lack the desired accuracy.
