Exercise and Childhood Cancer-A Historical Review.

Childhood cancer survivors are at risk of developing important adverse effects, many of which persist for years after the end of treatment. The implementation of interventions aiming at attenuating tumor/treatment-associated adverse effects is therefore a major issue in pediatric oncology, and there is growing evidence that physical exercise could help in this regard. The present review aims to summarize the main milestones achieved in pediatric exercise oncology.

Autoimmune disorders in oral lichen planus: A systematic review and meta-analysis.

Objectives: The association of OLP with other autoimmune processes points to the possibility that OLP-affected patients are actually developing an autoimmune status that predisposes them to autoaggression against different targets. This systematic review and meta-analysis aim to evaluate the current evidence on the prevalence of autoimmune disorders in patients with OLP and their magnitude of association.

Methods: We searched PubMed, Embase, Web of Science, Scopus databases for the studies published before May 2021, with no limitation in regards to their publication date or language.

Prognostic Role of the Expression of Latent-Membrane Protein 1 of Epstein-Barr Virus in Classical Hodgkin Lymphoma.

The prognostic impact of the presence of Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) in classical Hodgkin lymphoma (cHL) is controversial. Previous studies reported heterogeneous results, rendering difficult the clinical validation of EBV as a prognostic biomarker in this lymphoma. The objective of this study was to evaluate the survival impact of the expression of EBV Latent-Membrane Protein 1 (EBV-LMP1) in tumoral Hodgkin-Reed-Sternberg (HRS) cells of primary diagnostic samples of cHL.

Synthesis of sp-Iminosugar Selenoglycolipids as Multitarget Drug Candidates with Antiproliferative, Leishmanicidal and Anti-Inflammatory Properties.

sp-Iminosugar glycolipids (sp-IGLs) represent a consolidated family of glycoconjugate mimetics encompassing a monosaccharide-like glycone moiety with a pseudoamide-type nitrogen replacing the endocyclic oxygen atom of carbohydrates and an axially-oriented lipid chain anchored at the pseudoanomeric position. The combination of these structural features makes them promising candidates for the treatment of a variety of conditions, spanning from cancer and inflammatory disorders to parasite infections. The exacerbated anomeric effect associated to the putative sp-hybridized N-atom imparts chemical and enzymatic stability to sp-IGLs and warrants total α-anomeric stereoselectivity in the key glycoconjugation step.

Effectiveness of Hypnoanalgesia in Paediatric Dermatological Surgery.

Background And Objective: Stress in surgical settings has subtle psychological and physiological repercussions in children. The objective is to evaluate whether hypnosedation is effective in reducing the doses of sedation and analgesia required during the periprocedural period in children undergoing dermatological surgery, without negatively affecting pain and satisfaction.

Patients And Methods: A prospective, longitudinal, observational study where paediatric patients (aged 5-16 years) scheduled for dermatological surgery were analysed according to whether they received hypnosis or distraction during surgery (both common procedures at the centre).

Physical Activity Promotion Programmes in Childhood Cancer Patients and Their Impact on Fatigue and Pain: A Systematic Review.

Cancer is one of the main causes of death in children, however, the techniques and interventions applied allow the cure of 80% of diagnosed cases. The aim of this review was to determine the benefits of a health and physical activity promotion programme to reduce pain and fatigue symptoms in children and adolescents with cancer. The databases PubMed, Embase, Scopus, Cochrane, Web of Science and PEDro were searched between December 2020 and January 2021 to elaborate this review, using the keywords child, cancer, exercise, fatigue and pain.

Background: Pelvic floor dysfunctions affect a third of the adult female population, including a large number of clinical conditions, which can be evaluated through validated questionnaires that inform us of the status and perception of women both objectively and subjectively. The main objective of this study was to review and explain the topics of the validated questionnaires in Spanish on pelvic floor dysfunctions and to review their psychometric properties.

Methods: A systematic review was carried out in the PUBMED and WOS databases.

Background: Due to the prevalence and incidence worldwide of type 2 diabetes, and the significant role physical activity plays in these patients, a systematic review has been conducted to find out the effects that high-intensity interval training has on inflammatory biomarkers in subjects with type 2 diabetes. This project aims to determine the effect this training modality has on inflammatory biomarkers, in addition to observing its effects on the values of body composition and determining if this is a more effective, less effective or equally effective alternative to standard aerobic or resistance training.

Lung ultrasound (LUS) has shown higher sensitivity and specificity in diagnosis compared to x-rays, but evidence regarding its usefulness in complex NP is lacking. We report four neonates suffering from cardiac or esophageal malformations who developed lateral and/or posterior pneumothoraces, in which LUS helped, making NP diagnosis and management easier and faster.

Background: Engineered stone silicosis is an emerging disease in many countries worldwide produced by the inhalation of respirable dust of engineered stone. This silicosis has a high incidence among young workers, with a short latency period and greater aggressiveness than silicosis caused by natural materials. Although the silica content is very high and this is the key factor, it has been postulated that other constituents in engineered stones can influence the aggressiveness of the disease.

Meta-Analysis of Lung Ultrasound Scores for Early Prediction of Bronchopulmonary Dysplasia.

Lung ultrasound scores (LUS) might be useful in monitoring neonates with chronic pulmonary insufficiency of prematurity and in predicting bronchopulmonary dysplasia (BPD). Given their ease of use, accuracy, and lack of invasiveness, LUS have been the subject of several recent studies. We sought to clarify whether LUS provide an accurate and early (within the first 2 wk of life) prediction of BPD in preterm infants of gestational age ⩽32 weeks.

Long-term visual pathway alterations after elemental mercury poisoning: report of a series of 29 cases.
