Introduction: Patients with chronic colitis are at risk of developing intestinal fibrosis through epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT). Monotropein (MON) is the main active ingredient in the traditional Chinese medicine . It has been reported that monotropein can improve ulcerative colitis, but the mechanism remains unclear.

The innate immune response is the first line of defense for the host against viral infections. Targeted degradation of pathogenic microorganisms through autophagy, in conjunction with pattern recognition receptors synergistically inducing the production of interferon (IFN), constitutes an important pathway for the body to resist viral infections. Rubicon, a Run domain Beclin 1-interacting and cysteine-rich domain protein, has an inhibitory effect on autophagy and IFN production.

Necroptosis in bacterial infections.

Front Immunol

June 2024

Department of Pathogen Biology and Immunology, Faculty of Basic Medical Science, Kunming Medical University, Kunming, China.

Necroptosis, a recently discovered form of cell-programmed death that is distinct from apoptosis, has been confirmed to play a significant role in the pathogenesis of bacterial infections in various animal models. Necroptosis is advantageous to the host, but in some cases, it can be detrimental. To understand the impact of necroptosis on the pathogenesis of bacterial infections, we described the roles and molecular mechanisms of necroptosis caused by different bacterial infections in this review.

Gynostemma pentaphyllum (GP) is a plant commonly used in diabetic therapy in China. GP having potent antioxidant effect against various free radicals. The purpose of the current investigation to identify the cardioprotective effect of GP against streptozotocin (STZ)/ high fat diet (HFD) induced cardiac dysfunction in rats via alteration of AMPK/Nrf2/HO-1 pathway.

Objective: To investigate how physical exercise (PE) would affect brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) in randomized controlled trials (RCTs) of healthy subjects.

Methods: Seven databases (PubMed, Web of Science, Cochrane, Embase, PsycINFO, CINAHL, SPORTDiscus) were searched for RCTs assessing the effects of PE on serum and/or plasma BDNF until December 18, 2021. Meta-analysis was performed by random-effects method with standardized mean difference (SMD) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs).

Background And Purpose: Malnutrition is highly prevalent in ischemic stroke patients. We aimed to investigate whether malnutrition indexes may be useful in predicting mortality at 90 days in ischemic stroke patients treated with intravenous thrombolysis.

Methods: We retrospectively analyzed consecutive patients who underwent thrombolytic therapy at three comprehensive stroke centers.

Cycloastragenol alleviates airway inflammation in asthmatic mice by inhibiting autophagy.

Mol Med Rep

November 2021

Department of Integrative Medicine, Huashan Hospital, Fudan University, Shanghai 200040, P.R. China.

Cycloastragenol (CAG), a secondary metabolite from the roots of , has been reported to exert anti‑inflammatory effects in heart, skin and liver diseases. However, its role in asthma remains unclear. The present study aimed to investigate the effect of CAG on airway inflammation in an ovalbumin (OVA)‑induced mouse asthma model.

High flow nasal cannula therapy for obstructive sleep apnea in adults.

Sleep Breath

June 2022

Department of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine, Peking University People's Hospital, Beijing, People's Republic of China.

Purpose: Obstructive sleep apnea hypopnea syndrome (OSAHS) is characterized by the aggravation of upper airway constriction or obstruction, and it is associated with high incidence of various metabolic diseases and high mortality. Continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) is now recommended as the first-line therapy for OSAHS, but its application is limited by its unsatisfactory patient tolerance. Previous studies have showed that high flow nasal cannula (HFNC) may improve symptoms in some patients with OSAHS.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates the link between neutrophil count, intracranial atherosclerotic stenosis (ICAS), and patient outcomes after endovascular thrombectomy (EVT) in people with ischemic stroke.
  • The research included 221 patients, finding that 36.3% had ICAS, while over half experienced poor outcomes at 90 days.
  • Results indicated that higher neutrophil counts and the presence of ICAS were associated with worse outcomes, suggesting that ICAS plays a mediating role in how neutrophil levels affect recovery post-EVT.
