In this quasi-experimental before-after trial, we investigated the effects of a high-intensity, low-repetition inspiratory muscle training (HI-LRMT) protocol on respiratory muscle strength in instrumental musicians. In addition, was to estimate the prevalence of "non-responders" (NRs) in terms of muscle force after intervention. Healthy musicians ( = 48) were divided into 2 groups: HI-LRMT ( = 33) and a control group that did not train (CG, = 15).

Spacetime metamaterials are opening new regimes of light-matter interactions based on the breaking of temporal and spatial symmetries, as well as intriguing concepts associated with synthetic motion. In this work, we investigate the continuous spatiotemporal translation symmetry of spacetime metamaterials with uniform modulation velocity. Using Noether's theorem, we demonstrate that such symmetry entails the conservation of the energy momentum.

Myotonic dystrophy type 1 (DM1) is an autosomal dominant disorder clinically characterized by progressive muscular weakness and multisystem degeneration, which correlates with the size of CTG expansion and MBLN decrease. These changes induce a calcium and redox homeostasis imbalance in several models that recapitulate the features of premature tissue aging. In this study, we characterized the impact of a new family of FKBP12 ligands (generically named MPs or MP compounds) designed to stabilize FKBP12 binding to the ryanodine receptors and normalize calcium dysregulation under oxidative stress.

Social stress is the most significant source of chronic stress in humans and is commonly associated with health impairment. Individual differences in the behavioral coping responses to stress have been proposed to mediate the negative effects of stress on physical, behavioral and mental health. Animal models, particularly mice, offer valuable insights into the physiological and neurobiological correlates of behavioral coping strategies in response to chronic social stress.

We aimed to examine the effects of an individualised multicomponent exercise program on functional outcomes in hospitalised older patients with cancer. Patients aged ≥ 65 were recruited upon admission to a Medical Oncology Department and randomly allocated to receive a multicomponent exercise training program twice daily for five days or standard hospital care. The primary outcome measure was the change in functional status using the Short Physical Performance Battery.

Excessive use of chemical fertilizers poses significant environmental and health concerns. Microbial-based biofertilizers are increasingly being promoted as safe alternatives. However, they have limitations such as gaining farmers' trust, the need for technical expertise, and the variable performance of microbes in the field.

This study aims to explore the challenges and strategies in creating online communities for individuals with diabetes, emphasizing their role in fostering connections among individuals facing similar health conditions. Using a single-case approach, we investigated the design process of a diabetes online community using the classic waterfall model. Participants were recruited from a diabetes local association, and usability was assessed using the System Usability Scale and the think-aloud method.

Aim: To develop a conceptual framework for nurses' protocol-based care decision-making.
Design: Miles & Huberman's bottom-up approach to developing conceptual frameworks was followed, using data collected from a multiple embedded case study examining protocol-based decision-making by nurses in three hospital wards within a university hospital in northern Spain.
Methods: The qualitative data from the case study, obtained through documentary analysis, observations, and interviews, underwent a secondary analysis consisting of four steps: data reduction, data display, comparison, and drawing conclusions.

Background: Cancer and its treatments cause symptoms such as pain, fatigue, and emotional distress, which affect the quality of life of patients at different stages of cancer. Virtual reality (VR) has emerged as a promising alternative for addressing these symptoms by immersing patients in a virtual environment that isolates them from reality.
Objective: To describe the existing evidence on the use of VR to improve pain, fatigue, and emotional distress in people with cancer at different stages of the cancer trajectory.

Background: Complexities in older patient care and frequent polypharmacy requires tailored tools, specific skills and interdisciplinary collaborations. Traditional disease-centered education often overlooks these issues. Despite digital gamification's relevance in health education, limited exploration exists for gamified platforms addressing polypharmacy, especially within comprehensive geriatric assessment (CGA).

Although concrete and cement-based materials are the most engineered materials employed by mankind, their potential for use in daytime radiative cooling applications has yet to be fully explored. Due to its complex structure, which is composed of multiple phases and textural details, fine-tuning of concrete is impossible without first analyzing its most important ingredients. Here, the radiative cooling properties of Portlandite (Ca(OH)) and Tobermorite (CaSiO(OH)·4HO) are studied due to their crucial relevance in cement and concrete science and technology.

In this paper, we describe a measurement procedure to fully characterise a novel vibration energy harvester operating in the ultra-low-frequency range. The procedure, which is more thorough than those usually found in the literature, comprises three main stages: modelling, experimental characterisation and parameter identification. Modelling is accomplished in two alternative ways, a physical model (white box) and a mixed one (black box), which model the magnetic interaction via Fourier series.

Purpose: The aim of this paper is to develop a preliminary theory that explores in depth into understanding the experiences of women who have suffered a spontaneous perinatal loss during any trimester of their pregnancy regarding their emotional response to this loss.
Design: A grounded theory approach was used, and 25 in-depth interviews were conducted with Spanish women who suffered a spontaneous perinatal loss.
Methods: Theoretical sampling and constant comparative analysis were used to reach theoretical saturation.

Agricultural water pollution is a significant challenge in China, a rapidly growing economy with a large agricultural sector. The grey water footprint (WF) is a tool for evaluating freshwater pollution. It expresses pollution in volumetric units identifying the pollutant that theoretically needs most water to be diluted to accepted water quality standards.

Drylands soils worldwide are naturally colonized by microbial communities known as biocrusts. These soil microbiomes render important ecosystem services associated with soil fertility, water holding capacity, and stability to the areas they cover. Because of the importance of biocrusts in the global cycling of nutrients, there is a growing interest in describing the many microbial configurations these communities display worldwide.

The classical kinematic variables in swimming are based on the calculation of mean values. Stroke steadiness determines the relationship between the duration of all consecutive strokes throughout a test. The aims of the current investigation were to examine differences in stroke-to-stroke steadiness according to swimmers' performance level on both body sides (breathing and non-breathing) and to analyse the interrelationship with kinematics during a 100 m front-crawl test.

Modern crops exhibit diverse sensitivities to ammonium as the primary nitrogen source, influenced by environmental factors such as external pH and nutrient availability. Despite its significance, there is currently no systematic classification of plant species based on their ammonium sensitivity. We conducted a meta-analysis of 50 plant species and present a new classification method based on the comparison of fresh biomass obtained under ammonium and nitrate nutrition.
