The need to conduct research on anxiety and depression in patients with coronary artery disease in connection with factors such as gender or implemented tertiary prevention is very important for drawing practical conclusions and, consequently, implementing new recommendations and procedures. The aim of the study was to attempt to answer the question whether gender and the number of comorbidities, as well as the application of tertiary prevention principles, play a role in the severity of anxiety and depression in the studied group of patients with coronary artery disease. The study involved 765 patients from 11 Polish cardiology centers.

Human echinococcosis is a zoonotic infection caused by the larvae of the tapeworm species The liver is the most common location for a primary echinococcosis. However, the parasite may bypass or spread from the liver to the lungs, causing primary or secondary pulmonary echinococcosis, respectively. Pulmonary echinococcosis is a clinically challenging condition in which anthelminthic regiments are important, but surgery has the central role in removing the cysts and preventing recurrences.

Background: Infections are one of the leading causes of death in the early postoperative period after lung transplantation (LuTx).
Methods: We analyzed 59 transplantations and culture results of the donor bronchial aspirates (DBA), graft endobronchial swabs (GES), and recipient cultures (RC) before and after the procedure (RBA). We correlated the results with a cold ischemic time (CIT), recipient intubation time, and length of stay in the hospital and intensive care unit (ICU), among others.

Radical cystectomy (RC) for muscle-invasive bladder cancer (MIBC) is an extensive and morbid operation, often associated with permanent alteration of body image and disability. Combined with the aggressive malignant potential of MIBC and considerable risk of complications, it poses a serious threat to the psychological well-being of patients. Educational deficiencies causing uncertainty and confusion aggravate surgery-related anxiety and may lead to depression along with further social disability.

Matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) play an important role in many physiological and pathological processes, including neoplastic processes. They belong to a group of enzymes called endopeptidases and have the ability to hydrolyze all proteins in the extracellular matrix (ECM). They are produced in most connective tissue cells, macrophages, leukocytes, endothelial cells, microglial cells and in cancer cells.

Anti-programmed death-1 or anti-programmed death-ligand 1 (PD-L1) blockade may be ineffective in some patients with non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) with high percentage of tumor cells with PD-L1 expression. In addition, immunotherapy may provide great benefits in patients without PD-L1 expression. The present study assessed PD-L1 protein expression by immunohistochemistry, copy number variation (CNV) of and two single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs), rs822335 and rs822336, in the promoter of by quantitative PCR in 673 patients with NSCLC.

The study describes four cases of tularaemia - one developed after contact with rabbits and three developed after an arthropod bite. Due to non-specific clinical symptoms, accurate diagnosis of tularaemia may be difficult. The increasing contribution of the arthropod vectors in the transmission of the disease indicates that special effort should be made to apply sensitive and specific diagnostic methods for tularaemia, and to remind health-care workers about this route of Francisella tularensis infections.

The authors present the technique of retained ventricular catheter removal by means of fluoroscopy-guided neuronavigation. A disconnected free-floating intraventricular catheter is an unusual shunt complication, and in case of shunt infection it should be removed immediately. The operative procedure described here is the first such imaging technique and original approach to retained ventricular catheter endoscopic surgery.
