Purpose: The purpose of this study was to compare the clinical efficacy of foldable capsular vitreous body (FCVB) filled with either light or heavy silicone oil and the incidence of complications after their implantation for the treatment of severe ocular trauma and silicone oil-dependent eyes.
Methods: FCVB filled with either light (n = 16) or heavy (n = 8) silicone oil was implanted in 24 patients. During the 12-month follow-up period, the intraocular pressure, final best-corrected visual acuity, retinal reattachment condition, position of the FCVB, and complications were assessed.

Background: We aimed to assess the impact of complex mitral valve disease and patient risk profile on operative outcomes in the large cohort of the Mini-Mitral International Registry.
Methods: Patients were assigned to categories of complex degenerative mitral valve regurgitation (DMR; bileaflet or anterior mitral leaflet prolapse/flail) and simple DMR (posterior mitral leaflet prolapse/flail). Subgroup analyses was performed in low-risk (EuroSCORE II <8%) and high-risk (EuroSCORE II >8%) cohorts.

Minimally invasive techniques in gynecological pathology have well-known benefits, the "gold standard" of uterine prolapse being currently managed laparoscopically. Laparoscopic lateral hysteropexy and hysterosacropexy are surgical techniques that can be performed for uterine prolapse. Laparoscopic management of such cases is recommended, but requires well-trained teams in laparoscopic surgery.

Background: Recently, natural tissue repair has become popular in the treatment of pelvic organ prolapsed. In this study, we compared patients who underwent cystocele repair with the rug-weaving plication technique, a natural tissue repair method implemented since 2022 for anterior prolapse, with those treated using conventional colporrhaphy.
Methods: We retrospectively reviewed the data of 65 patients who underwent anterior vaginal wall repair with the rug-weaving plication technique (n = 33, Group 1) or conventional colporrhaphy (n = 32, Group 2).

: Postherpetic neuralgia (PHN) and postherpetic pruritus (PHP) are common complications of shingles that affect patients' quality of life. PHN and PHP can be managed using various medications and interventional procedures; however, complications persisting for at least six months may hamper recovery. Subcutaneous injections of botulinum toxin type A (BTX-A) can control persistent PHN and PHP.

Stress urinary incontinence (SUI) affects around 35% of adult women and has a significant impact on quality of life. A single incision sling (SIS), such as Altis, was introduced to improve original slings and avoid complications. The present study aimed to evaluate the SIS Altis subjective and objective cure rates of women with SUI, mixed urinary incontinence (MUI), recurrent SUI, and SUI with concomitant prolapse and report its complications from one single medical center.

Aims: The prevalence, the aetiologies, and the clinical features of tricuspid regurgitation (TR) in the context of concomitant degenerative mitral valve (MV) disease are poorly defined. This paper aims to assess the prevalence, determinants, and clinical consequences of TR in severe degenerative mitral regurgitation (DMR).
Methods And Results: Clinical and echocardiographic characteristics were collected among patients with severe DMR.

Introduction And Hypothesis: Robot-assisted sacrocolpopexy (RASC) is increasingly common due to the increased uptake of surgical robot systems. The aim of this retrospective study was to assess the perioperative outcomes of the first patient cohort to undergo RASC using a brand-new surgical robot system, the hinotori surgical system (robot-assisted sacrocolpopexy with hinotori surgical system [h-RASC]). This study also aimed to compare the outcomes of this group with those of the group of patients who had undergone RASC with the da Vinci surgical system (d-RASC).

Background/aim: Hysterectomy is the most frequent gynecological surgery. Vaginal hysterectomy (VH) seems to be related to favorable perioperative outcomes compared to abdominal or laparoscopic approaches. As the population ages, anesthesia that is safer for the elderly, such as local anesthesia (LA) with conscious sedation, is gaining popularity and is related to favorable outcomes in patients' recovery compared to general or regional anesthesia.

Introduction And Hypothesis: This study evaluated the association between pelvic organ prolapse (POP), frailty, and sarcopenia to explore how POP treatment can extend healthy life expectancy in elderly women.
Methods: We conducted a retrospective study of prospectively collected data, comparing women with mild POP (stages 0-II) with those with advanced POP (stages III and IV). The inclusion criteria for this study were women who visited the clinic with at least one symptom of pelvic floor dysfunction and underwent imaging studies between April 2020 and November 2022.

Background: There is concern about the durability of mitral valve repair (MVr) for mitral regurgitation (MR) in Marfan patients due to limited long-term data. Furthermore, a detailed time course of changes in cardiac function after MVr in Marfan patients has not been reported. We examined repair techniques, postoperative cardiac function, and outcomes of MVr in Marfan patients.

The purpose of this review is to present a comprehensive overview of the literature published up to February 2024 on the PubMed database regarding the development of mitral valve disease, with detailed reference to mitral valve prolapse, from embryology to a genetic profile. Out of the 3291 publications that deal with mitral valve embryology, 215 refer to mitral valve genetics and 83 were selected for further analysis. After reviewing these data, we advocate for the importance of a gene-based therapy that should be available soon, to prevent or treat non-invasively the valvular degeneration.

Objective: To assess the risk of pelvic organ prolapse (POP) after hysterectomy for benign conditions.
Study Design: This nationwide retrospective cohort study, utilizing data from the Korean National Health Insurance Service database, compared women aged 40 to 59 who underwent benign hysterectomy between 2002 and 2011 (hysterectomy group) with those who had national medical examinations during the same period (nonhysterectomy group). The analysis used a 1:1 propensity score matching method adjusted for variables.
