Importance: Improving patients' recall and understanding of their planned surgery is essential for fully informed consent.
Objective: The objective of this study was to assess if the addition of an information handout to the standard preoperative consent process for the transobturator midurethral sling procedure improved patient understanding, recall, and satisfaction.
Study Design: This is a randomized controlled trial of adult women undergoing a transobturator midurethral sling procedure for the treatment of stress urinary incontinence.

Background: Mitral valve (MV) disease including myxomatous degeneration is the most common form of valvular heart disease with an age-dependent frequency. Genetic evidence indicates that mutations of the human transcription factor are associated with MV defects, including MV regurgitation. In this study, we sought to determine whether murine and its closely related factor, , are required in valvular endothelial cells (VECs) for the maintenance of MV leaflets, including VEC junctions and the stratified trilaminar ECM (extracellular matrix).

Purpose: To analyze the upper eyelid contour after Müller's muscle conjunctiva resection (MMCR) performed by four different surgeons.
Methods: Comparative cross-sectional analysis of the pre- and postoperative contours of a control group and four groups of upper lids (n = 88) of 65 patients who underwent MMCR at four international centers. The procedure employed was essentially the same as described by Putterman but performed with different instruments to entrap the posterior lamella.

Acute leukemia is a hematological malignancy affecting different organ systems including the eye and orbit through direct infiltration of tissues or secondary to hematological abnormalities. Ophthalmological manifestations in acute leukemia are variable ranging from asymptomatic presentation to serious manifestations that can alter the disease course and treatment. The purpose of this study is to detect the incidence of different ophthalmological manifestations in newly diagnosed acute leukemia patients and to assess the relationship between ocular findings and hematological characteristics and the sequel of these neoplasms.

We describe two anti-3‑hydroxy-3-methyl-glutaryl-coenzyme A reductase (HMGCR) antibody-positive patients with treatment-responsive ophthalmoparesis. Patient 1 was a 53-year-old male with progressive proximal limb weakness, dysphagia, ptosis, and diplopia over 6 weeks and creatine kinase (CK) of 3,512 units/L. Patient 2 was a 55-year-old female with progressive proximal weakness, dysarthria, ptosis, diplopia, and dyspnea over 2 weeks with CK of 31,998 units/L.

Background: Breast reduction surgery has witnessed significant advancements in recent years; however, it continues to pose challenges for both surgeons and patients when dealing with cases involving excessive breast volume and severe breast ptosis. This study aimed to assess the aesthetic outcomes and the impact on the quality of life, as measured by the BREAST-Q questionnaire, in patients with gigantomastia and severe breast ptosis who underwent reduction mammaplasty using the superomedial-based pedicle technique.
Methods: We present a retrospective series comprising 84 patients who underwent reduction mammoplasty utilizing the superomedial pedicle technique.

Background: Oncoplastic breast surgery (OBS) is a form of breast conservation surgery (BCS) that involves a partial mastectomy followed by immediate volume displacement or volume replacement surgical techniques. To date, there are few studies evaluating OBS in older patients. Therefore, we sought to determine if outcomes differed between patients 65 years and older versus younger patients who underwent oncoplastic surgical procedures.

Background: Mitral regurgitation (MR) is frequent in patients with aortic stenosis (AS). Although primary MR is an established negative prognostic factor, whether different mechanisms of MR have different effects on outcome is currently unknown. The aim of this study was to evaluate the impact of the MR mechanism in patients undergoing transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR).

Degenerative mitral valve disease is a common valvular disease with two arguably distinct phenotypes: fibroelastic deficiency and Barlow's disease. These phenotypes significantly alter the microstructures of the leaflets, particularly the collagen fibers, which are the main mechanical load carriers. The predominant method of investigation is histological sections.

Background: Vaginal laxity (VL) is a complaint of excessive vaginal looseness with a prevalence ranging from 24% to 38% across studies.
Aim: The study sought to compare the effect of radiofrequency (RF) and pelvic floor muscle training (PFMT) on the treatment of women with VL.
Methods: From February 2020 to December 2021, a prospective, parallel, noninferiority, randomized clinical trial was carried out in women ≥18 years of age and complaining of VL in a tertiary hospital.

Background: The presence of mitral annulus disjunction (MAD) has been considered a high-risk feature for sudden cardiac death based on selected study populations. We aimed to assess the prevalence of MAD in consecutive patients undergoing clinically indicated cardiovascular magnetic resonance (CMR), its association with ventricular arrhythmias, mitral valve prolapse (MVP), and other CMR features.
Methods: This single-center retrospective study included consecutive patients referred to CMR at our institution between June 2021 and November 2021.

We describe the case of a male heavy machinery operator who presented from work with a rapidly evolving spinal cord syndrome. Spinal MRI revealed thoracic vertebral body and cord infarction and evolving mild disc prolapse attributed to fibrocartilaginous disc embolism (FCDE). FCDE should be considered as one of the aetiological mechanisms of acute spinal cord infarction in pile-driver/heavy machinery operators, especially in association with adjacent vertebral body infarction and intervertebral disc prolapse.

Introduction And Hypothesis: Risk factors for pelvic floor disorders (PFDs) are not well understood in lower resource settings. The objective of this study is to determine the risk factors associated with stress urinary incontinence (SUI), urge urinary incontinence (UUI), and pelvic organ prolapse (POP) among women of reproductive age in rural Nepal.
Methods: This is a case-control study nested within a community-based cross-sectional survey of parous women of reproductive age with PFDs in the Sarlahi District of Nepal.

Transvaginal organ prolapse, such as small bowel evisceration, is a rare complication after radical cystectomy (RC) in female patients with invasive bladder cancer, However, it often requires emergency surgical repair. Here, we describe our experience with such a case and a review of similar previously reported cases, along with evaluation of the risk factors. We also propose a vaginal reconstruction technique to prevent this complication during robot-assisted laparoscopic radical cystectomy (RARC).
