The involvement of kidney, perirenal fat, and ureter is a rare variant of inguinal hernia. We report a case of a 78-year-old man presenting with typical clinical signs of acute appendicitis. Ultrasonography and CT scan revealed ptosis of the right kidney with a major part of the perirenal capsule involved in a large right sided inguinal hernia with acute obstruction of the ureter and urostasis.

Purpose: Current practice for diagnostic biopsy of lacrimal gland lesions entails an orbitotomy procedure via an upper eyelid crease or lateral canthotomy skin incision. We describe a novel surgical technique to address these lesions via the lateral conjunctival fornix.
Methods: Retrospective case series of all patients who underwent a lateral fornix orbitotomy procedure for incisional or excisional diagnostic biopsy of lacrimal gland lesions.

Williams syndrome (WS) is a multi-system condition caused by the deletion of 25-27 coding genes on human chromosome 7. Irritability, gastrointestinal (GI) reflux and slow growth are commonly reported in infants with WS, but less data exist regarding GI concerns in older children and adults with the condition. This study evaluates 62 individuals with WS (31 children aged 3-17, and 31 adults aged 18-62) as well as 36 pediatric and adult controls to assess current and historical rates of common GI symptoms.

Chemodenervation is an important means of treating oral-ocular synkinesis, but upper eyelid treatment is avoided due to risk of blepharoptosis. To measure the change in eyelid position among patients with oral-ocular synkinesis who received botulinum toxin to the upper eyelid orbicularis oculi compared with those who received lateral and lower eyelid treatment alone. In this retrospective clinical study, patients were categorized as having received lateral and lower eyelid botulinum toxin alone or having received upper eyelid botulinum toxin (to the preseptal and orbital orbicularis oculi) along with lateral and lower eyelid treatment.

Endovascular coiling techniques have emerged as an alternative and effective approach for treating intracranial aneurysms. However, in some cases, previously coiled aneurysms may require secondary treatment with surgical clipping, presenting a more complex challenge compared with the initial intervention. We present the case of a 39-year-old man with a residual class III Raymond-Roy occlusion partially coiled aneurysm at the left middle cerebral artery bifurcation (Video 1).

Background: To use the three-dimensional (3D) ultrasound for assessment of pelvic floor muscle function in non-diabetic females with insulin resistance (IR), and to evaluate its functional relationship with insulin levels.
Methods: From October 2022 to November 2023, 216 non-diabetic females with insulin-resistant (IR group) and 118 normal females (control group) were sequentially recruited from our hospital for our study. The 3D ultrasound was used to assess the levator hiatus in resting state for all females regarding diameter lines, perimeters and areas; as well as the Valsalva manoeuvre (VM).

Background And Objective: Pelvic organ prolapse (POP) affects 40% of women, with a 12%-19% lifetime surgical risk. Italy showed high practice variation in POP surgery, possibly impacting equity of access to healthcare services, a central goal of Beveridge-like health systems. According to the literature, unwarranted variation, influenced by physician attitudes or resource allocation, must be reduced.

Background: Various mitral valve (MV) repair techniques are nowadays in use. Non-resection techniques, that rely exclusively on Gore-Tex® neochords and annuloplasty, have been popularized; however, their efficacy in Barlow's disease, characterized by large myxomatous leaflets, is yet unclear.
Methods: Consecutive patients undergoing MV repair for Barlow's disease between 2011 and 2019 were selected on the basis of being eligible for resection and non-resection techniques.
