Possible activation of NRF2 by Vitamin E/Curcumin against altered thyroid hormone induced oxidative stress via NFĸB/AKT/mTOR/KEAP1 signalling in rat heart.

Sci Rep

May 2019

Redox Biology Laboratory, Department of Zoology, Center of Excellence in Environment and Public Health, Ravenshaw University, Cuttack, 753003, Odisha, India.

Oxidative stress is implicated in both hypo- and hyper-thyroid conditions. In the present study an attempt has been made to elucidate possible interaction between vitamin E or/and curcumin (two established antioxidants) with active portion (redox signaling intervening region) of nuclear factor erythroid 2-related factor 2 (NRF2) as a mechanism to alleviate oxidative stress in rat heart under altered thyroid states. Fifty Wistar strain rats were divided into two clusters (Cluster A: hypothyroidism; Cluster B: hyperthyroidism).

Dental orthopantogram (OPG)/cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) scanners are gaining popularity due to their 3D imaging with multiplanar view that provides clinical benefits over conventional dental radiography systems. Dental OPG/CBCT provides optimal visualization of adjacent overlaying anatomical structures that will be superpositioned in any single projection. The characteristics of indigenously developed optically stimulated luminescence dosimeters, namely, aluminium oxide doped with carbon (Al O :C), lithium magnesium phosphate doped with terbium and boron (LiMgPO :Tb,B) and lithium calcium aluminium fluoride doped with europium and yttrium (LiCaAlF :Eu,Y) were evaluated for their use in dental dosimetry.

Purpose: Vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) is a potent inducer of micro vascular permeability thus leading to nephropathy. Insertion/deletion (I/D) polymorphism of 18 bp at - 2549 position in VEGF gene causes increased transcription leading to increased production of VEGF. Thus, we aimed to associate I/D polymorphism of the 18 bp fragment at - 2549 position of the promoter region of VEGF gene with sickle cell nephropathy (SCN).

Objectives: To determine the acquisition of Streptococcus mutans and dental caries experience in children with sickle cell anaemia (SCA) under various prophylactic therapies.

Methods: This study involved a total of 200 children who were divided into five groups comprising of 40 children each. Group SP included children who received prophylactic penicillin, Group SV who received pneumococcal vaccination, Group SPV who received both prophylactic penicillin and pneumococcal vaccination, Group SW who did not receive any prophylactic therapy and Group CC who were controls.

We have previously reported that homologous recombination (HR) is dysregulated in multiple myeloma (MM) and contributes to genomic instability and development of drug resistance. We now demonstrate that base excision repair (BER) associated apurinic/apyrimidinic (AP) nucleases (APEX1 and APEX2) contribute to regulation of HR in MM cells. Transgenic as well as chemical inhibition of APEX1 and/or APEX2 inhibits HR activity in MM cells, whereas the overexpression of either nuclease in normal human cells, increases HR activity.

Sickle cell disease (SCD) is life-threatening hemoglobinopathy prevalent in India, Sub-Saharan Africa and Middle East. Inflammation plays a pivotal role in disease process and involves intricate interaction among leukocytes, platelets, sickle erythrocytes and vascular endothelium. Available disease modifying therapies are hydroxyl-urea and blood transfusion.

Background: India is a developing country and adverse drug reactions (ADRs) influence most of the diseases in our population, and monitoring is required due to the paucity of ADRs. The present study was done to analyze the ADRs at the ADR monitoring center (AMC) of tertiary care hospital in Raipur during 1 year.

Materials And Methods: Study of ADR monitoring of outpatient and inpatient was a prospective and observational study carried out between September 2015 and August 2016.

Impact of RAD51C-mediated Homologous Recombination on Genomic Integrity in Barrett's Adenocarcinoma Cells.

J Gastroenterol Hepatol Res

February 2017

Department of Adult Oncology, Harvard (Dana Farber) Cancer Institute, Boston, MA, the United States. VA Health Care System, West Roxbury, MA, the United States.

Background: In normal cells, RAD51-mediated homologous recombination (HR) is a precise DNA repair mechanism which plays a key role in the maintenance of genomic integrity and stability. However, elevated (dysregulated) RAD51 is implicated in genomic instability and is a potential target for treatment of certain cancers, including Barrett's adenocarcinoma (BAC). In this study, we investigated genomic impact and translational significance of moderate vs.

Introduction: The timeline between a decision made and delivery of the baby is termed decision delivery interval (DDI). According to current recommendations, an emergency caesarean section must be performed within 30 min of the decision. The present study was conducted with an objective to assess DDI in a busy obstetric unit in India and its impact on obstetric outcome.

Purpose: Sickle cell disease (SCD) is the most common and serious form of an inherited blood disorder that lead to higher risk of early mortality. SCD patients are at high risk for developing multiorgan acute and chronic complications linked with significant morbidity and mortality. Some of the ophthalmological complications of SCD include retinal changes, refractive errors, vitreous hemorrhage, and abnormalities of the cornea.

Codon usage bias is due to the non-random usage of synonymous codons for coding amino acids. The synonymous sites are under weak selection, and codon usage bias is maintained by the equilibrium in mutational bias, genetic drift and selection pressure. The differential codon usage choices are also relevant to human infecting Plasmodium species.

Chemotherapy and its associated side effects can induce the disruption of circadian rest-activity rhythm and may have negative consequences on health-related quality of life (HRQoL) of cancer patients. In the current study, repeated-measures cross-sectional design was implemented to determine the status of circadian rest-activity rhythm and to assess the HRQoL of newly diagnosed female breast cancer patients those were planned to receive six cycles of chemotherapy. Rest activity and HRQoL were assessed in twenty-five patients during chemotherapy cycles 1st (C1), 3rd (C3), and 6th (C6) immediately after they reported to the outdoor ward of the Regional Cancer Center, Pt.

Cannabis is a frequently used illicit recreational drug that is known to be associated with a variety of psychopharmacological effects. Negative somatic effects such as myocardial infarction and stroke have been reported, though, less frequently. Most of the literature available has focused on the complications due to smoked forms of cannabis (ganja and charas).
