Background: The quality of life for low vision patients is a comprehensive concept that involves multiple aspects, including physical, psychological, and social aspects. Visual impairment is an important factor in the decline of patients' quality of life. The purpose of this study is to investigate the impact and feasibility of carrying out low vision rehabilitation nursing on the quality of life and nursing burden of low vision patients.

Relationship between the learning gains and learning style preferences among students from the school of medicine and health sciences.

Background: The field of health sciences is constantly evolving, presenting significant challenges to student learning performance. Therefore, it is crucial to identify the factors influencing students' learning style preferences, as these relate to how they acquire, understand, interpret, organize, and process information from their courses. In this study, we evaluated whether there is a relationship between students' learning style preferences and their learning gains.

Parents' views and experiences of raising babies born with cleft lip and palate: a qualitative study.

Background: Parents of children born with cleft lip/palate encounter numerous challenges. This study aims to provide a deeper understanding for authorities to better support these parents by exploring the views and experiences of Iranian parents raising babies with cleft lip/palate through qualitative research.

Methods: This qualitative study collected data through face-to-face, in-depth, semi-structured interviews.

Impact of family care on sleep quality in perimenopausal women: mediating roles of anxiety and depression.

Background: This study aimed to investigate the relationship between family care, anxiety, depression, and sleep quality in perimenopausal women. Furthermore, it also aimed to examine the role of anxiety and depression in mediating family care and sleep quality. The study findings aim to provide theoretical support for alleviating anxiety and depression levels and improving sleep quality in perimenopausal women.

Self-directed learning versus traditional didactic learning in undergraduate medical education: a systemic review and meta-analysis.

Background: Self-Directed Learning (SDL) is a theory of andragogy in which adult learners take their own initiative to identify and tailor their individual learning process and outcomes. In undergraduate medical education, SDL aims to develop medical students into lifelong learners. This study aims to estimate the overall effectiveness of self-directed learning compared to traditional didactic learning (TDL).

Prediction and unsupervised clustering of fertility intention among migrant workers based on machine learning: a cross-sectional survey from Henan, China.

Background: Although China has implemented multiple policies to encourage childbirth, the results have been underwhelming. Migrant workers account for a considerable proportion of China's population, most of whom are of childbearing age. However, few articles focus on their fertility intentions.

Kinesiophobia and associated factors among people with musculoskeletal disorders in Ethiopia: a multicenter cross-sectional study.

Introduction: Kinesiophobia has a major health impact on patients with Musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs) in their functional and physical activities, which leads to poor outcomes, loss of motivation, loss of mobility, and decreased quality of life. Despite the burden of kinesiophobia among MSDs, there is limited evidence about the burden of kinesiophobia in Ethiopia. Thus, this study aimed to assess the prevalence and its associated factors of kinesiophobia among MSD patients attending physiotherapy outpatient clinics.

Dyadic effects of illness perception and maladaptive cognitive-emotional regulation strategies on the fear of cancer recurrence in breast cancer patients and spouses: an actor-partner interdependence mediation model.

Purpose: Breast cancer, as a stressful event, profoundly impacts the entire family, especially patients and their spouses. This study used a dyadic analysis approach to explore the dyadic effects of illness perception on the fear of cancer recurrence (FCR) and whether maladaptive cognitive-emotional regulation strategies acted as a mediator in breast cancer patient-spouse dyads.

Methods: This was a cross-sectional study, and 202 dyads of breast cancer patients and their spouses were enrolled.

The meaning of trust along the treatment pathway of women with breast cancer: a mixed-methods study among cancer survivors.

Purpose: Women with breast cancer face a high degree of uncertainty. Trust between health providers and patients has been shown to improve patient quality of life and may enhance clinical outcomes. This study aimed to explore the meaning of trust along the treatment pathway.

Exploring the influence of living arrangements on mental health among adolescents during the COVID-19 pandemic: a cross-sectional study in China.

Background: Although scholars have extensively explored the impact of parents on the mental health of children and adolescents during the COVID-19 pandemic, the role of living arrangements has not received sufficient attention. Furthermore, the previous studies do not investigate whether living with a father or a mother has differing impacts on the mental health of adolescents, nor does it explore potential differences between biological parents and step-parents in this regard.

Study Aims: This study aims to explore the impact of various living arrangements during the COVID-19 pandemic on the mental health of adolescents, with a particular focus on parental presence and family structure.

Burden of caregivers of older people in Sri Lanka: an overlooked concern in the health care system.

Background: Caring for older people has become a significant public health concern in Sri Lanka due to the growing aging population. This has placed a heavy burden on family caregivers, particularly those caring for older individuals with multiple chronic conditions. Recognizing this challenge, the present study aimed to evaluate the psychometric properties of the Sinhala version of the 10-item short form of the Burden Scale for Family Caregivers (BSFC-s) and assess caregiver burden and associated factors among caregivers of older people aged over 65 years with multimorbidity.

Cost-utility and cost-benefit analysis of a multi-component intervention (NEXpro) for neck-related symptoms in Swiss office workers.

Background: Neck pain is a significant public health issue, especially among office workers, with a prevalence ranging from 42 to 68%. This study aimed to evaluate the cost-utility and cost-benefit of a multi-component intervention targeting neck pain in the general population of office workers in Switzerland. The 12-week multi-component intervention consisted of neck exercises, health promotion information workshops, and workplace ergonomics sessions.

Patient perspectives on stress after ICU and a short primary care based psychological intervention - results from a qualitative sub‑study of the PICTURE trial.

Background: Approximately 20-25% of patients who survive medical treatment at an intensive care unit (ICU) develop post-traumatic stress symptoms. There is currently a gap in follow-up care for them. As part of the PICTURE study, general practitioners (GPs) carried out a brief interview-based intervention.

Prevalence and influencing factors of occupational burnout among healthcare workers in the Chinese mainland during the late 2022 Omicron COVID-19 outbreak: a multicenter cross-sectional study.

China witnessed an Omicron COVID-19 outbreak at the end of 2022. During this period, medical crowding and enormous pressure on the healthcare systems occurred, which might result in the occurrence of occupational burnout among healthcare workers (HCWs). This study aims to investigate the prevalence of occupational burnout and associated mental conditions, such as depressive symptoms, anxiety, PTSD symptoms, perceived social support, resilience, and mindfulness among HCWs of the Chinese mainland during the Omicron COVID-19 outbreak, and to explore the potential risk and protective factors influencing occupational burnout of HCWs.

A conceptual model for advanced/metastatic gastric or gastroesophageal junction cancer: a review of qualitative studies and results from patient interviews.

Background: Despite approvals of new first-line immunotherapies for advanced/metastatic gastric cancer/gastroesophageal junction cancer (aGC/GEJC), patients' median survival is around 14 months and their health-related quality of life (HRQoL) is affected by disease-related symptoms and treatment-related side effects. Using a targeted literature review (TLR) and patient interviews, this study identified disease- and treatment-related concepts that are important to patients with aGC/GEJC and their HRQoL.

Methods: A TLR was conducted to identify primary qualitative studies from 2018 to 2021 on patients' experiences with aGC/GEJC.

Perceived cognitive impairment and occupational functioning in prostate cancer survivors: an exploratory cross-sectional analysis.

Purpose: Perceived cancer-related cognitive impairment (CRCI) has been reported in prostate cancer survivors. Little is known about how CRCI impacts occupational functioning in working-aged prostate cancer survivors (PCS). This study aimed to investigate the association between CRCI and occupational functioning in PCS.

Psychological Interventions to Improve Elite Athlete Mental Wellbeing: A Systematic Review and Meta-analysis.

Background: Mental wellbeing, one continuum alongside mental illness in a dual-continua mental health model, has attracted less attention compared with substantial studies concerning mental illness amongst elite athletes. Notably, the promotion and protection of mental wellbeing contribute to not only a positive status of flourishing but also a reduction in the future risk of mental illness, which can potentially facilitate a status of complete mental health. Despite the critical role of wellbeing promotion and protection, there are limited evidence-based strategies to design and implement wellbeing interventions in elite athletes.

Beneficial vs harmful effects of pharmacological treatment of patent ductus arteriosus: A Bayesian meta-analysis.

Background: Randomized controlled trials (RCTs) have failed to demonstrate the beneficial effects of the pharmacological treatment of patent ductus arteriosus (PDA) in preterm infants. We conducted a Bayesian model averaged (BMA) meta-analysis of RCTs comparing the pharmacological treatment of PDA with placebo or expectant treatment.

Methods: We searched for RCTs including infants with gestational age (GA) ≤ 32 weeks and with a rate of open-label treatment of less than 25% in the control arm.

Physical activity and quality of life among breast cancer survivors: Pink SWAN.

Purpose: To describe physical activity (PA) trajectories across 10 years post-breast cancer diagnosis and examine their association with quality of life (QoL).

Methods: Participants from the longitudinal Study of Women's Health Across the Nation who developed incident breast cancer completed the Quality of Life in Adult Cancer Survivors scale (QLACS) which has 12 domains. Breast cancer survivors (BCS) with at least one post-diagnosis measure of the Kaiser Physical Activity Survey (PA) were included (n = 96).

"They knew the same struggles": perceptions of a group coping skills intervention in patients with chronic graft-versus-host disease.

Purpose: Chronic graft-versus-host-disease (cGVHD), an inflammatory condition affecting allogeneic hematopoietic cell transplantation (HCT) survivors, is associated with a range of debilitating physical and psychological sequela. Yet HCT recipients with cGVHD are virtually absent from survivorship intervention research. We conducted a randomized clinical trial to evaluate the feasibility and preliminary efficacy of a multidisciplinary group coping skills intervention (Horizons) tailored to meet these patients' unique needs.

Feasibility and potential effect of a pilot blended digital behavior change intervention promoting sustainable diets over a year.

Well-designed effective interventions promoting sustainable diets are urgently needed to benefit both human and planetary health. This study evaluated the feasibility, acceptability, and potential impact of a pilot blended digital intervention aimed at promoting sustainable diets. We conducted a series of ABA n-of-1 trials with baseline, intervention, and follow-up phases over the course of a year, involving twelve participants.

Autologous haematopoietic stem cell transplantation for treatment of multiple sclerosis and neuromyelitis optica spectrum disorder - recommendations from ECTRIMS and the EBMT.

Autologous haematopoietic stem cell transplantation (AHSCT) is a treatment option for relapsing forms of multiple sclerosis (MS) that are refractory to disease-modifying therapy (DMT). AHSCT after failure of high-efficacy DMT in aggressive forms of relapsing-remitting MS is a generally accepted indication, yet the optimal placement of this approach in the treatment sequence is not universally agreed upon. Uncertainties also remain with respect to other indications, such as in rapidly evolving, severe, treatment-naive MS, progressive MS, and neuromyelitis optica spectrum disorder (NMOSD).
