Mental Health Consequences of Opioid Pain Medication Use Behaviors and Motives Among Adolescents and Young Adults With Cancer: Results From a National Survey.

Background: Adolescents and young adults (AYA) with cancer experience long-term consequences into survivorship that impact quality of life, including mental health symptoms, substance use, and persistent pain. Given the elevated rates of pain, AYA cancer survivors are at increased risk for opioid pain medication (OPM) exposure, increasing risk for opioid-related negative consequences, particularly for those with mental health symptoms. Minimal research has documented that a considerable proportion of AYAs with cancer receive OPM that continues into survivorship, yet the lack of consensus on the definition of problematic opioid use coupled with the high clinical need for OPM makes it particularly challenging to understand the impact of OPM use in this population.

Caregiver Psychosocial Factors & Stroke Survivor Cognitive Outcomes: A REGARDS-CARES Cohort Study.

Objectives: Caring for an individual with cognitive impairment carries a physical, mental, and emotional toll. This manuscript examines the relationship between caregiver psychosocial measures and longitudinal cognitive outcomes of stroke survivors, as well as analyzing the psychosocial factors as moderators of stroke severity and cognition.

Methods: This analysis was conducted on caregiver and stroke survivor dyads (n = 157) that participated in the Caring for Adults Recovering from the Effects of Stroke (CARES) project, an ancillary study of the REasons for Geographic and Racial Differences in Stroke (REGARDS) national cohort study.

Gender Differences in the Association Between Anxiety and Interoceptive Insight.

Anxiety is one of the most common and debilitating mental health disorders, and is related to changes in interoception (perception of bodily states). While anxiety is more prevalent in women than men, gender differences in interoception-anxiety associations are often overlooked. Here, we examined gender-specific relationships between anxiety and interoception in the breathing domain, utilising multicentre data pooled from four study sites (N = 175; 51% women).

Dementia prevalence and dementia risk in Indigenous Peoples: recent findings, current developments, and future directions.

Purpose Of Review: To highlight recent findings on the prevalence and risk and protective factors for dementia in Indigenous Peoples, who are disproportionately affected by health inequities driven by social determinants of health and historical injustices. With increasing numbers of Indigenous individuals entering older age, there is a growing need for research to better understand dementia and opportunities for prevention in Indigenous Peoples.

Recent Findings: Recent studies highlight a wide range of dementia prevalence across Indigenous Peoples, with estimates varying significantly by methodology, socio-cultural context, and region with stark gaps in regional representation.

Genetics of Prader-Willi and Angelman syndromes: 2024 update.

Purpose Of Review: Prader-Willi (PWS) and Angelman (AS) syndromes arise from errors in 15q11-q13 imprinting. This review describes recent advances in genomics and how these expand our understanding of these rare disorders, guiding treatment strategies to improve patient outcomes.

Recent Findings: PWS features include severe infantile hypotonia, failure to thrive, hypogonadism, developmental delay, behavioral and psychiatric features, hyperphagia, and morbid obesity, if unmanaged.

Electroconvulsive therapy in autism spectrum disorders: an update to the literature.

Purpose Of Review: Over the last quarter century, the clinical evidence surrounding the use of electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) in individuals with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) has expanded. This review provides the most up-to-date findings on the usage of ECT in ASD and discusses these results within the historical context and direct patient care experience.

Recent Findings: ECT is typically implemented for psychotropic-refractory catatonic, affective, psychotic, and combined pathology for individuals across the lifespan.

Accuracy of Continuous Glucose Monitoring in Adults with Type 1 Diabetes Admitted to Hospital: A Real-World Multicenter Observational Study.

Continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) use in people with type 1 diabetes (T1D) is revolutionizing management. Use of CGM in hospital is poised to transform care, however routine use is not currently recommended due to lack of accuracy validation in acute care, including in people with T1D. We aimed to determine real-world CGM accuracy in hospitalized adults with T1D.

Urban air pollution and child neurodevelopmental conditions: a systematic bibliometric review.

Purpose Of Review: Using advanced bibliometric analysis, we systematically mapped the most current literature on urban air pollution and neurodevelopmental conditions to identify key patterns and associations. Here, we review the findings from the broader literature by discussing a distilled, validated subset of 44 representative studies.

Recent Findings: Literature highlights a complex relationship between environmental toxins, neurodevelopmental disorders in children, and neurobehavioral pathways involving oxidative stress, neuroinflammation, and protein aggregation.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia in China: A Knowledge, Attitude, and Practice Study Among Medical Doctors Treating Patients with Insomnia.

Erlotinib-induced Perioral Lesions Resembling Scleroderma.

Erlotinib, an epidermal growth factor receptor tyrosine kinase inhibitor (EGFR-TKI), is currently used in the therapy of several solid malignancies. Among the latter, pollution and climate change are frequently being considered in the etiopathogenesis of severe mental disorders. This systematic review aims to investigate the biological mechanisms behind the relationship between environmental pollutants, climate change, and mental disorders.

Objective: Natural variation in ovarian steroid hormones across the female lifespan contributes to an increased risk for depressive and posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) symptoms in women. However, minimal work has focused on understanding the impacts of reproductive aging on the brain and behavioral health of trauma-exposed women. This systematic review examines the bidirectional relationship between trauma-related psychopathology and reproductive aging.

Objective: The purpose of this study was to explore how the congruence between academic pressure and psychological imbalance affects depressive symptoms in adolescents and to further explore grade-level differences in these effects among high school students.

Methods: The study population consisted of 29,975 high school students from 20 schools in Liuyang City, Hunan Province.
