Introduction: Vortioxetine is a multimodal antidepressant with a high tolerability profile. Recent evidence suggests a role for vortioxetine in improving cognitive function and reducing functional disability linked to depression. We conducted a systematic review on the use of vortioxetine in different neurological disorders.

In the last decades the survival of metastatic gastrointestinal (GI) cancer patients could have been significantly extended due to the introduction of targeted- and immunotherapy. However, only the minority of patients will experience long-lasting survival. Hence, novel therapeutics are clearly necessary for GI cancer patients.

Objectives: Semen analysis investigates different parameters of human semen with a high relevance in fertility workup, confirmation of sterility by post vasectomy, in pathologies follow-up such as varicocele and in all cases where sperm preservation is required. Manually seminal fluid examination is characterized by poor reproducibility. Aim of this study was to evaluate the performance of an automatic device in semen analysis by comparing its results with those obtained with the manual microscopy.

Introduction: Knowledge and systematic evaluation of analytical errors is the task of internal analytical quality control management. The aim of this study was to assess whether the Westgard rules proposed by Bio-Rad's Westgard Advisor software are more efficient in the monitoring of analytical performance than those previously in use.
Materials And Methods: The study was carried out on the nephelometer Atellica NEPH630 (Siemens Healthineers, Erlangen, Germany).

Objectives: The purpose of this study is to present the long-term functional swallowing outcomes of various surgical approaches to oral tongue/floor of mouth squamous cell carcinoma (OTFOMSCC) according to a modular and compartment-based concept previously described elsewhere.
Methods: A retrospective study was conducted on patients undergoing surgery for OTFOMSCC from January 2017 to April 2023 in the Department of Otorhinolaryngology at the Hospital of Bolzano. Functional swallowing outcomes and quality of life (QoL) were assessed through the administration of a scale and questionnaires between 6 months and 1 year postoperatively or after the end of adjuvant therapy, stratifying the results according to the surgical technique used.

The management of head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC) relies heavily on TNM staging and WHO histologic grading; however, in recent years, the analysis of prognostic markers expressed in the tumor stroma has gained attention. The tumor-stroma ratio (TSR) quantifies the proportion of tumor tissue relative to the surrounding stromal tissue; it is assessed with the percentage of stromal tissue within the tumor area, with a cutoff point of 50% being widely used to discriminate high-stroma cancer. In this systematic review and meta-analysis, we investigated the potential prognostic role of the TSR in HNSCC.

Background: Fosfomycin (FOS) is gaining increasing importance as part of combination therapy for the treatment of carbapenem-resistant Acinetobacter baumannii (CRAB) and KPC-producing Klebsiella pneumoniae (KPC-Kp), thanks to its in vitro synergism with several antibiotics, high tissue distribution and good tolerability. We analyzed the effect on 30-day survival of FOS-containing regimens compared to non-FOS-containing regimens in critically ill patients admitted to the intensive care unit with CRAB or KPC-Kp infections. Secondary objectives were to evaluate clinical cure and microbiologic eradication in the FOS vs.

Heparin-induced thrombocytopenia (HIT) is an immune-mediated condition characterized by a decrease in platelet count and an increased thrombotic risk. HIT event is caused by antiplatelet factor/heparin (PF4/H) antibodies that can activate the platelets. The diagnosis of HIT is based on a clinical evaluation and laboratory results.

Human babesiosis is an emerging zoonotic disease; diffused especially in some regions of the United States, it has been less frequently observed in other continents, including Europe. Serological surveys suggest that babesiosis could be more frequent than expected in European countries, representing an emerging health-issue and a possible harm, especially in immunocompromised populations. Only one case of human babesiosis has been reported in Italy and data about the diffusion of the pathogen in this country are scant.

Multicentric reticulohistiocytosis (MRH) is the most frequent entity in the group of reticulohistiocytoses. It is usually accompanied by symmetrical erosive polyarthritis and is frequently associated with cancer and autoimmune disorders. Autoimmune/inflammatory syndrome induced by adjuvants (ASIA) is an inflammatory syndrome triggered by adjuvants such as those contained in vaccines or by silicone implants.

Introduction: Gait and mobility impairment are pivotal signs of parkinsonism, and they are particularly severe in atypical parkinsonian disorders including multiple system atrophy (MSA) and progressive supranuclear palsy (PSP). A pilot study demonstrated a significant improvement of gait in patients with MSA of parkinsonian type (MSA-P) after physiotherapy and matching home-based exercise, as reflected by sensor-based gait parameters. In this study, we aim to investigate whether a gait-focused physiotherapy (GPT) and matching home-based exercise lead to a greater improvement of gait performance compared with a standard physiotherapy/home-based exercise programme (standard physiotherapy, SPT).

Programmed death-ligand 1 (PD-L1) expression is currently used in the clinic to assess eligibility for immune-checkpoint inhibitors via the tumor proportion score (TPS), but its efficacy is limited by high interobserver variability. Multiple papers have presented systems for the automatic quantification of TPS, but none report on the task of determining cell-level PD-L1 expression and often reserve their evaluation to a single PD-L1 monoclonal antibody or clinical center. In this paper, we report on a deep learning algorithm for detecting PD-L1 negative and positive tumor cells at a cellular level and evaluate it on a cell-level reference standard established by six readers on a multi-centric, multi PD-L1 assay dataset.

Objectives: The high incidence of prostate cancer causes prostatic samples to significantly affect pathology laboratories workflow and turnaround times (TATs). Whole-slide imaging (WSI) and artificial intelligence (AI) have both gained approval for primary diagnosis in prostate pathology, providing physicians with novel tools for their daily routine.
Methods: A systematic review according to the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses guidelines was carried out in electronic databases to gather the available evidence on the application of AI-based algorithms to prostate cancer.

In patients with SCD, chronic liver damage is a common manifestation. More than 50% of SCD patients have elevated liver enzymes. Common underlying aetiologies include sickle cell hepatic crisis, viral hepatitis, sickle cell intrahepatic cholestasis and hepatic sequestration in the acute setting, and cholelithiasis and iron overload in the chronic setting.
