Prognostic role of YB-1 expression in breast cancer: a meta-analysis.

Objective: In published studies, Y-box binding protein-1 (YB-1) correlated with the prognosis of patients with breast cancer (BC), but the specific role of YB-1 is still unclear. Our study aimed to evaluate the prognostic value of YB-1 in BC patients using meta-analysis based on the published studies.

Methods: We searched the relevant literatures deadline for June 2014 in databases, including PubMed, Embase, Medline and Cochrane library, and finally 8 studies were included in our study.

The role of O(6)-methylguanine-DNA methyltransferase polymorphisms in colorectal cancer susceptibility: a meta analysis.

Objective: O(6)-methylguanine DNA methyl-transferase gene (MGMT) is a central DNA repair mechanism with a significant role in removing DNA damage caused by alkylating agents and inhibiting human oncogenesis. Two single polymorphisms in the MGMT gene, Leu84Phe and Ile143Val, have been reported to affect DNA repair capability and enzymic activity, thereby leading to formation of different cancers. In this work, we quantitatively assess the associations between MGMT polymorphisms and risk of colorectal cancer (CRC), as previous studies has implicated inconsistencies in their results.

Effects of periodontal treatment on glycemic control in type 2 diabetic patients: a meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials.

The association between diabetes and inflammatory periodontal diseases has been studied extensively. However, there is a lack of robustness and homogeneity among studies describing effects of periodontal treatment on glycemic control. The aim of this study was to carry out a meta-analysis to understand whether periodontal treatment could improve glycemic control in type 2 diabetic patients.

Decreased HCRP1 expression is associated with poor prognosis in breast cancer patients.

Background: Downregulation of hepatocellular carcinoma related protein 1 (HCRP1) has been reported to be associated with a poor prognosis in a variety of malignant tumors. The purpose of this study was to assess HCRP1 expression in breast cancer and to examine its possible correlation with commonly used prognostic factors, particularly epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR).

Overexpression of EpCAM and Trop2 in pituitary adenomas.

We sought to investigate the expression of EpCAM and Trop2 in Pituitary adenomas (PAs) and study the correlation of protein expression with invasiveness, proliferation, clinical functioning, recurrence/progression, and some other factors. We investigated the expression of EpCAM and Trop2 in 74 samples of PAs by immunohistochemistry and made correlative analysis of protein overexpression with clinicopathological parameters. Follow-up data was analyzed for recurrence/progression with Kaplan-Meier method and Multivariate Cox regression analysis.

Rhesus monkey is a new model of secondary lymphedema in the upper limb.

Objective: This study is to establish the rhesus monkey model of lymphedema in the upper limbs, and assess the suitability of this model.

Methods: An animal model of lymphedema was established by the combined irradiation and surgical techniques in the upper limbs of these rhesus monkeys. Physical examination, high-resolution MR lymphangiography, bioelectrical impedance analysis (BIA), and immunohistochemical staining were performed to determine the severity of the edema in the upper limbs of the animal model.

EGFR mutations in patients with non-small cell lung cancer from mainland China and their relationships with clinicopathological features: a meta-analysis.

Many studies have reported the EGFR mutations in Chinese non small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) patients and their relationship with clinicopathological characteristics. But the frequency and type of EGFR mutations are varied. The relationship between EGFR mutations and clinicopathological characteristics remains unclear.

[Medical treatment following successful separation of thoracopagus conjoined twins].

Objective: To analyze and summarize the medical treatment experience following separation of thoracopagus conjoined twins.

Method: The clinical manifestations and the medical therapy of a pair of thoracopagus conjoined twins were analyzed. The conjunction of the female twins was from 5 cm above the nipple to the umbilicus.
