Article Synopsis
  • Double Primary Hepatic Cancer (DPHC) is a rare coexistence of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) and intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma (ICC) in the liver, characterized by a low prevalence of about 0.26% among primary liver cancer cases and a higher prevalence of Hepatitis B in DPHC patients compared to those with ICC.
  • The clinical analysis of 12 DPHC cases revealed that lymph node metastasis is more common in DPHC than in HCC alone, and patients have a median disease-free survival of 6 months and overall survival of 15 months.
  • The primary treatment approach for DPHC involves radical resection along with regional lymphadenectomy, while preoperative trans

Diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL) is the most common lymphoma subtype, accounting for 30%-40% of non-Hodgkin lymphoma in adults. The mechanisms underlying DLBCL occurrence are extremely complex, and involve the B-cell receptor (BCR) and Toll-like receptor (TLR) signaling pathways, as well as genetic abnormalities and other factors. With the development of high-throughput sequencing, an increasing number of abnormal genes have been identified in DLBCL.

Co-loading of sonosensitizers and chemotherapeutic drugs into nanocarriers can improve the biocompatibilities, stabilities, and targeting of drugs and reduce the adverse reactions of drugs, providing a robust platform to orchestrate the synergistic interplay between chemotherapy and sonodynamic therapy (SDT) in cancer treatment. In this regard, biodegradable manganese dioxide (MnO) has attracted widespread attention because of its unique properties in the tumor microenvironment (TME). Accordingly, herein, MnO nanoshells with hollow mesoporous structures (H-MnO) were etched to co-load hematoporphyrin monomethyl ether (HMME) and doxorubicin (DOX), and DOX/HMME-HMnO@bovine serum albumin (BSA) obtained after simple BSA modification of DOX/HMME-HMnO exhibited excellent hydrophilicity and dispersibility.

In recent years, the role of circular RNAs (circRNAs) in glioma has become increasingly important. However, there are still many newly discovered circRNAs with unknown functions that require further study. In this study, circRNA sequencing, qPCR, MTS, EdU, Transwell, and other assays were conducted to detect the expression and malignant effects of a novel circRNA molecule, circGRIK2, in glioma.

Objectives: Lymphoepithelial carcinoma (LEC) of the oral cavity and pharynx is a rare cancer, with poorly understood clinicopathological characteristics and prognosis. Only a few case reports or small case series have been reported, so the characteristics and survival of patients with this disease remains unclear. The present study aimed to describe the clinicopathological characteristics and determine the factors associated with survival of this uncommon cancer.

An iodide-containing covalent organic framework for enhanced radiotherapy.

Chem Sci

Metal-free radiosensitizers, particularly iodine, have shown promise in enhancing radiotherapy due to their suitable X-ray absorption capacities and negligible biotoxicities. However, conventional iodine compounds have very short circulating half-lives and are not retained in tumors very well, which significantly limits their applications. Covalent organic frameworks (COFs) are highly biocompatible crystalline organic porous materials that are flourishing in nanomedicine but have not been developed for radiosensitization applications.

Serum lipoprotein(a) predicts 1-year major cardiovascular events in patients after percutaneous coronary intervention.

Am J Transl Res

January 2023

Department of Biostatistics, School of Public Health, Cheeloo College of Medicine, Shandong University Jinan 250012, Shandong, China.

Background: Lipoprotein(a) [Lp(a)], which is predictive of coronary heart disease (CHD), plays an important role in the pathogenesis of atherosclerosis. This study aimed to evaluate the association of Lp(a) with major adverse cardiovascular events (MACEs) and readmission in individuals who had undergone a percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI).

Methods: A total of 1,938 patients with CHD who had undergone a PCI from January 2010 to December 2018 were assigned to three groups based on Lp(a) level.

Objectives: Sestrin2 is an essential regulator of the cellular adaptive response against various stresses. The endoplasmic reticulum (ER) is critical in maintaining normal cardiac function by controlling intracellular Ca accumulation, as well as protein folding and processing. Autophagy contributes to stress-associated heart dysfunction.

Ambient synthesis of an iminium-linked covalent organic framework for synergetic RNA interference and metabolic therapy of fibrosarcoma.

Chem Sci

July 2022

College of Chemistry, Chemical Engineering and Materials Science, Collaborative Innovation Center of Functionalized Probes for Chemical Imaging in Universities of Shandong, Key Laboratory of Molecular and Nano Probes, Ministry of Education, Shandong Normal University Jinan 250014 China

Small interfering RNA (siRNA)-mediated gene silencing is a promising therapeutic approach. Herein, we report the ambient synthesis of a positively charged iminium-linked covalent organic framework by a three-component one-pot reaction. Through anion exchange and siRNA adsorption, the resulting multifunctional siRNA@ABMBP-COF, which possesses both the HK2 inhibitor 3-bromopyruvate and SLC7A11 siRNA, exhibits powerful synergistic antitumor activity against fibrosarcoma the ferroptosis and apoptosis pathways.

Objective: This study aimed to investigate the expression of Survivin, inhibitor of growth 4 (ING4), CXC chemokine ligand 8 (CXCL8), vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF), and the correlation between Survivin, ING4, CXCL8 and VEGF in prostate cancer (PCa) tissues.

Methods: From January 2019 to December 2019, 51 patients from Chengwu People's Hospital and The First People's Hospital of Taian, with PCa were selected as the PCa group and 47 patients with benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) were included as the BPH group. The expression of Survivin, ING4, CXCL8 and VEGF in both groups and among patients with different clinical stages in the PCa group were compared, and the correlation between Survivin, ING4, CXCL8 and VEGF expression in PCa tissues was analyzed.

Neoplasms with perivascular epithelioid cell differentiation (PEComas) of the pancreas are rare, and only 22 cases have been reported globally. Therefore, clinician and pathologist knowledge of this tumor's biologic behavior and molecular genetics has been limited. A 40-year-old female patient presented with a space-occupying mass in the pancreas found by abdominal B-mode ultrasonography upon physical examination.

X-inactivation-specific transcript (XIST) is a long noncoding RNA (lncRNA) that functions as an indicator of various human tumors, including those of breast cancer. This study was conducted to characterize a novel regulatory network involving XIST in breast cancer cells. The mRNAs of XIST, miR-125b-5p, and NOD-like receptor family CARD domain containing 5 (NLRC5) in breast cancer cells and tissues were analyzed using quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction.
