Quercetin, which is present in numerous fruits and vegetables, has shown promise in improving inflammation, lipid profiles, and blood pressure in humans. However, the efficacy of quercetin in diabetic nephropathy (DN) remains preclinical and unclear. Therefore, a meta-analysis based on preclinical animal data is needed to assess the efficacy, optimal dosage, and underlying mechanism of DN treatment to accelerate new drug research and clinical translation.

Department of Thoracic Surgery, Anhui Provincial Hospital Affiliated to Anhui Medical University, the First Affiliated Hospital of University of Science and Technology of China, Hefei 230001, China.

To investigate the relationship between the examined number of lymph nodes at the N1 station and the clinicopathological characteristics and prognosis of patients with pT1-3N0M0 non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). A total of 337 patients with pT1-3N0M0 NSCLC who underwent radical lung cancer surgery at the Provincial Hospital Affiliated to Anhui Medical University from January 2013 to March 2015 were selected. The receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve analysis was used to determine the optimal cut-off value for predicting 5-year survival in pT1-3N0M0 NSCLC patients by the examined number of lymph nodes at the N1 station.

Chronic low back pain (CLBP) is a common symptom of lumbar degenerative disease. Degeneration of the lumbar paravertebral muscles causes a loss of muscle mass and strength, which is a vital factor causing CLBP and often accompanied by lipid infiltration. Tandem mass spectrometry (TMT) was used to identify differentially expressed proteins in lipid-infiltrated and normal muscles.

Background: Lymph node (LN) staging plays an important role in treatment decision-making. Current problem is that preoperative detection of LN involvement is always highly challenging for radiologists.

Purpose: To explore the value of the nomogram model combining intravoxel incoherent motion diffusion-weighted imaging (IVIM-DWI) and radiomics features from the primary lesion of rectal adenocarcinoma in assessing the non-enlarged lymph node metastasis (N-LNM) preoperatively.

Int J Gen Med

January 2022

Stroke Center & Department of Neurology, The First Affiliated Hospital of USTC, Division of Life Sciences and Medicine, University of Science and Technology of China, Hefei, Anhui, People's Republic of China.

Article Synopsis
  • Moyamoya disease (MMD) is a cerebrovascular condition characterized by abnormal blood vessel growth, leading to stroke-like symptoms. This study investigates the relationship between plasma apelin levels and collateral blood circulation in patients with MMD compared to those with MCA occlusion and healthy individuals.
  • Researchers collected plasma samples from 68 MMD patients, 25 MCA patients, and 29 healthy controls, analyzing levels of apelin, nitric oxide (NO), and vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) using ELISA kits.
  • Findings showed that MMD patients had significantly higher levels of plasma apelin-13, -17, and -36 compared to the other groups, with apelin levels correlating positively with MMD severity,

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates how platelet levels and the platelet to mean platelet volume (PLT/MPV) ratio affect the prognosis of advanced esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC) patients treated with apatinib.
  • Retrospective analysis of 80 advanced ESCC patients showed that higher PLT and PLT/MPV ratios correlated with better progression-free survival (PFS), with significant findings (156 days vs. 80 days and 157 days vs. 85 days, respectively).
  • Multivariate analysis indicated that a high pretreatment PLT/MPV ratio was an independent predictor of longer PFS, suggesting that these blood parameters may help assess treatment outcomes in patients receiving later lines of apatinib therapy

Anti-Ro/SSA and/or anti-La/SSB antibodies (anti-SSA/SSB) were reported to increase the risk of recurrent pregnancy loss. However, the effects of anti-SSA/SSB antibodies on in-vitro fertilization (IVF) and pregnancy outcomes were still unclear. The purpose of the study was to determine whether anti-SSA/SSB antibodies were detrimental to IVF and pregnancy outcomes.

Background: Morphine, a µ-opioid receptor (MOR) agonist, has been shown to be related to the activity of cancer cells, and a higher morphine dosage reduces the survival time of patients with lung cancer. However, the effect of morphine on the malignant behavior of lung cancer cells remains unclear. The aim of this study was to investigate the specific molecular mechanism by which morphine regulates the malignant biological behavior of non-small cell lung cancer.

Treatment-related toxicities and decreased levels of patient performance during cancer therapy might contribute to body composition changes (BCC) and thereby impact outcomes. This study investigated the association between BCC during transcatheter arterial chemoembolization (TACE) and outcome in patients with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), and developed a nomogram for predicting survival in combination with clinical prognostic factors (CPF). Pretreatment and posttreatment computed tomography (CT) images of 75 patients with HCC who were treated between 2015 and 2018 were analyzed.

Objective: The neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) is recognised as a suitable prognostic biomarker in patients with breast cancer. Nevertheless, the efficacy of this biomarker in predicting the pathological complete response (pCR) and survival in patients with breast cancer receiving neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NACT) is still controversial. This meta-analysis aimed to identify the association between baseline NLR and the prognosis of patients with breast cancer treated with NACT.
