Background: Hypertension (HT) is the most prevalent risk factor for cardiovascular disease (CVD) worldwide. Despite being a highly heritable trait, the underlying mechanisms of HT remain elusive due to its complex genetic architecture. Discovering disease-associated proteins with causal genetic evidence offers a potential strategy for identifying therapeutic targets for HT.

Programmed cell death protein-1 (PD-1) inhibitors plus chemotherapy have been the standard of care in the first-line treatment of advanced gastric or gastroesophageal junction (G/GEJ) adenocarcinoma; however, the survival benefits are modest in patients with low programmed death ligand 1 (PD-L1) expression. Here we investigated the efficacy and safety of cadonilimab (PD-1/cytotoxic T lymphocyte antigen-4 (CTLA-4) bispecific antibody) plus chemotherapy as first-line treatment in G/GEJ adenocarcinoma. The prespecified interim analysis is reported here.

Malnutrition substantially contributes to adverse clinical outcomes. However, no national survey has been conducted to characterize its epidemiology in hospital settings in China. We conducted the China Nutrition Fundamental Data 2020 project among a multistage stratified cluster sample of adult inpatients from 291 study sites across 30 provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities (except for Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan Province, and the Xizang Autonomous Region, please see MATERIALS AND METHODS for details of the causes) of China to generate reliable data on the prevalence of malnutrition and explore the associated risk factors.

Background: Rituximab pharmacokinetics in patients with membranous nephropathy (MN) exhibit significant interindividual variability. Accurate measurement of serum rituximab concentrations is essential for effective therapeutic monitoring. This study develops a highly sensitive time-resolved fluoroimmunoassay (TRFIA) for rituximab (rituximab-TRFIA) with a wide detection range, aimed at enhancing therapeutic drug monitoring in MN treatment.

Chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) T cells have encouraging results in the treatment of hematological malignancies. However, CAR-T therapy still faces numerous challenges against solid tumors, such as hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), owing to heterogeneous antigen expression in tumor cells, limited persistence of CAR-T cells, etc. Therefore, to treat HCC more effectively, we connected the molecular receptor NKBB to a second-generation glypican-3 (GPC3) CAR to construct GC3328z-NKBB CAR-T cells, which have double specific targets of GPC3 and NKG2DLs (natural killer group 2, member D ligands), dual co-stimulation of CD28 and 41BB, and a single CD3ζ chain.

Raftlin (raft-linking) protein is an essential component of the lipid raft structure and plays a crucial role in B and T cell signaling pathways. It facilitates B cell receptor (BCR) signaling by promoting calcium mobilization and tyrosine phosphorylation in the cells while colocalizing with BCR on the cell membrane. Interestingly, Raftlin is internalized in lipopolysaccharide-stimulated T cells by colocalization with Toll-like receptor 4 (TLR4), wherein it exerts a similar role as in B cells.

Background/aims: Cholangiocarcinoma (CCA) is a malignant and insidious tumor that is tricky to treat. Long non-coding RNA (LncRNA) LINC01123 is a biomolecule that influences cancer progression by regulating gene expression via influencing the regulatory function of microRNAs in gene expression. Therefore, this study investigated the connection between LINC01123 and CCA and explored the underlying mechanism.

Osteoarthritis (OA) is a globally prevalent degenerative joint disease. Recent studies highlight the role of ferroptosis in OA progression. Targeting ferroptosis regulation presents a promising therapeutic strategy for OA; however, current research primarily focuses on single targets associated with ferroptosis.

Objective: Demonstrate the superiority of percutaneous balloon compression (PBC) in the treatment of primary trigeminal neuralgia (PTN) compared to trigeminal microvascular decompression (MVD).
Methods: Clinical data, including immediate, short-term, and long-term pain relief, complications, duration of the operation, and postoperative hospital stay, were retrospectively analyzed for 114 patients diagnosed with PTN who were treated with either PBC or MVD between January 2018 and December 2021.
Results: There were no statistically significant differences observed in the pain relief rates between the two surgical methods at 24 h postoperatively (MVD: 91.

Background: Cardiac arrest (CA) triggers a systemic inflammatory response, resulting in brain and cardiovascular dysfunction. The red blood cell distribution width (RDW)-to-albumin ratio (RAR) has been widely explored in various inflammation-related diseases. However, the predictive value of RAR for the prognosis of CA remains unclear.

Background: Anatomical variations of the recurrent motor branch (RMB) are at risk of injury during carpal tunnel release procedures. Previous studies have visualized the RMB using ultrasound (US) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) but have not compared the imaging capabilities of the two. Previous investigations have overlooked two specific types of carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS): simultaneous compression of the median nerve and the RMB and isolated compression of the latter.

Recent data suggest that NAFLD may be an independent risk factor for cardiovascular disease (CVD). This study aimed to investigate the association between NAFLD and carotid high-risk plaque (HRP) as assessed by high-resolution magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), and to examine the diagnostic value of NAFLD.

The adsorption of DNA probes onto nanomaterials represents a promising bioassay technique, generally employing fluorescence or catalytic activity to generate signals. A significant challenge is maintaining the catalytic activity of chromogenic catalysts during detection while enhancing accuracy by overcoming the limitations of single-signal transmission. This article presents an innovative multimodal analysis approach that synergistically combines the oxidase-like activity of Fe-N-C nanozyme (Fe-NC) with red fluorescent carbon quantum dots (R-CQDs), further advancing the dual-mode analysis method utilizing R-CQDs@Fe-NC.

Transfusion-related acute lung injury (TRALI) is a potentially lethal complication of blood transfusions, characterized by the rapid onset of pulmonary edema and hypoxemia within six hours post-transfusion. As one of the primary causes of transfusion-related mortality, TRALI carries a significant mortality rate of 6-12%. However, effective treatment strategies for TRALI are currently lacking, underscoring the urgent need for a comprehensive and in-depth understanding of its pathogenesis.

Aging is an inevitable physiological process in organisms, and the development of tumors is closely associated with cellular senescence. This article initially examines the role of cellular senescence in tumorigenesis, emphasizing the correlation between telomere length-a marker of cellular senescence-and tumor risk. Concurrently, the study explores the expression levels of senescence-associated markers, such as p16, p53, and mTOR, in the context of tumor development.
