Aim: We conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis to compare the different interventions intended to increase vaccination rates.

Background: Surgeons use various irrigation solutions to minimize the risk of prosthetic joint infection after total joint arthroplasty. The toxicity of these solutions is an important consideration in their use. This study investigates the effect of irrigation solutions Bacitracin, Clorpactin (sodium oxychlorosene), and Irrisept (chlorhexidine) on osteoblast cytotoxicity and proliferation.

Successful treatment of dermato-neuro syndrome with plasmapheresis.

Altered mental status can have many causes ranging from emergent intracranial pathologies to more insidious, systemic toxic aetiologies. We report a rare case of dermato-neuro syndrome in a 71-year-old man with a known history of scleromyxoedema. The patient initially presented with encephalopathy which quickly progressed to generalised tonic-clonic seizures and coma.

Factors Associated with Delayed Paracentesis in Patients with Spontaneous Bacterial Peritonitis.

Background And Aim: In patients with spontaneous bacterial peritonitis (SBP), studies show that delayed paracentesis (DP) is associated with worse outcomes and mortality. We aimed to assess the rate of DP in the community setting and associated factors with early versus delayed paracentesis.

Inflammatory bowel disease complications can be related to inflammatory bowel disease-related pulmonary diseases or a form of hypersensitivity pneumonitis secondary to the immunosuppressive medications. We present a patient with intermittent chest pain and hypoxic respiratory failure who was found to have balsalazide-induced pneumonitis. We discuss the treatment and long-term outlook.

Outcome Measures for Acute Submassive Pulmonary Embolisms at a Community-Based Hospital Using Ultrasound-Facilitated, Catheter-Directed, Low-Dose Fibrinolysis.

Purpose: Ultrasound-facilitated, catheter-directed, low-dose fibrinolysis (USAT) appears to provide promising results for the management of acute submassive pulmonary embolisms (ASMPEs) at tertiary care centers. This study assessed outcome measures at a community-based hospital systems and compared results to known studies.

Materials And Methods: This is a single-center, retrospective study assessing clinical outcomes of the EkoSonic Endovascular System intervention for ASMPEs performed by three surgical 3 subspecialties (interventional radiology, interventional cardiology, and vascular surgery) part of a pulmonary embolism response team (PERT).

Somatostatinoma is a rare neuroendocrine tumor with an incidence rate of 1 in 40 million people. It presents mostly as asymptomatic tumor diagnosed incidentally on imaging or surgery when evaluating or treating possible causes of abdominal pain. It also can present with vague symptoms, or as a clinical triad of glucose intolerance, steatorrhea, and achlorhydria.

Chest wall lump: lipoma or intramuscular myxoma?

Intramuscular myxomas (IM) of the chest wall are extremely rare. We present the case of a 58-year-old African-American female who was initially diagnosed with having a chest wall lipoma. After re-evaluation, the lesion was consistent with an intercostal myxoma versus myxoid sarcoma.

The Effect of Ambient Temperature and Implantation Time on the Material Properties of Two Viscosity-Differing Cements Using American Society of Testing and Materials Methodology.

Ambient temperature and time to implantation can affect the material properties of polymethylmethacrylate bone cement, and cement intrusion depth has been shown to affect implant fixation. The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of ambient temperature and time to implantation on depth of intrusion, and the effect of ambient temperature on setting time. Two types of cements were evaluated: cement A (Simplex P,medium Q7 viscosity) and cement B (Palacos R, high viscosity).

Systematic review and case series: flexible sigmoidoscopy identifies most cases of checkpoint inhibitor-induced colitis.

Background: Immune checkpoint inhibitors are used in the treatment of multiple advanced stage cancers but can induce immune-mediated colitis necessitating treatment with immunosuppressive medications. Diagnostic colonoscopy is often performed but requires bowel preparation and may delay diagnosis and treatment. Sigmoidoscopy can be performed rapidly without oral bowel preparation or sedation.

: Inappropriate use of acid suppression (AST) therapy may lead to unnecessary harms, especially in the geriatric population. Despite this, AST remains one of the most commonly prescribed medications in the hospital. Therefore, we aimed to assess its prevalence and create educational intervention to improve the appropriateness of inpatient acid suppression therapy.

Background: Enteropathy associated T-cell lymphoma (EATL) is a rare form of peripheral T-cell lymphoma and makes up less than 5% of gastrointestinal lymphomas. EATL can be divided into type 1 which is associated with celiac disease, and monomorphic epitheliotropic intestinal T-cell lymphoma (MEITL), formally type 2, which is not associated with celiac disease.

Case Summary: We present a 60-year-old African American female, without celiac disease, who presented with abdominal pain, diarrhea, and 30 lb.

Background: The rate of inadequate bowel preparation in the general population is approximately 23%. As more individuals with developmental disabilities enter late adulthood, a concomitant rise in endoscopic procedures for this population, including screening colonoscopies, is anticipated. However, there are sparse data on the adequacy of bowel preparation in patients with developmental disabilities.

Pseudomelanosis of the gastrointestinal (GI) tract is a rare condition used to describe the accumulation of pigment deposits in the intestinal mucosa. Its underlying cause is not well understood. It has been described in association with gastrointestinal hemorrhage, chronic kidney disease, hypertension, diabetes mellitus, and medications such as hydralazine, ferrous sulfate, and furosemide.

Psychological Therapy for Centralized Pain: An Integrative Assessment and Treatment Model.

Objective: Chronic pain is a significant health problem that is increasing in prevalence, and advances in treatment are needed.

Methods: We briefly review the leading evidence-based psychological therapies for chronic pain-cognitive-behavioral and acceptance/mindfulness-based therapies-and examine several limitations and missing perspectives of these approaches. We review six lesser-known interventions that address these limitations, and we describe our integrative model for psychological assessment and treatment of centralized pain.

The objectives of the study are to describe minimally invasive treatment of pedicle fractures, to show contralateral pedicle changes with pedicle fracture treatment, and to review literature on incidence and mechanism of neural arch fractures. After conservative therapy, there are several options for the treatment of pedicle fractures including pediculoplasty, osteosynthesis, or fusion.

Evaluation of intracoronary hyperoxemic oxygen therapy in acute anterior myocardial infarction: The IC-HOT study.

Background: In the randomized AMIHOT-II trial, supersaturated oxygen [SSO ] delivered into the left anterior descending (LAD) artery via an indwelling intracoronary infusion catheter following primary percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) significantly reduced infarct size in patients with anterior ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) but resulted in a numerically higher incidence of safety events.

Objectives: The IC-HOT study evaluated the safety of SSO therapy selectively delivered to the left main coronary artery (LMCA) for 60 minutes after PCI in patients with anterior STEMI.

Methods: SSO therapy was administered to the LMCA after stent implantation in 100 patients with anterior STEMI and proximal or mid-LAD occlusion presenting within 6 hours of symptom onset.

The Effects of a Life Stress Emotional Awareness and Expression Interview for Women with Chronic Urogenital Pain: A Randomized Controlled Trial.

Objective: Women with chronic urogenital pain (CUP) conditions have elevated rates of lifetime trauma, relational stress, and emotional conflicts, but directly assessing and treating psychological stress is rarely done in women's health care settings. We developed and tested the effects on patients' somatic and psychological symptoms of a life stress interview that encourages disclosure about stressors and uses experiential techniques to increase awareness of links between stress, emotions, and symptoms.

Methods: In this randomized trial, women with CUP recruited at a multidisciplinary women's urology center received either a single 90-minute life stress interview (N = 37) or no interview (treatment-as-usual control; N = 25).
