Direct laryngoscopy and videolaryngoscopy are currently the dominant tools for endotracheal intubation. However, the video-assisted intubating stylet, a type of videolaryngoscopy, has been shown to offer some advantages over these tools, such as rapid intubation time, high first-attempt success rates, less airway stimulation, and high subjective satisfaction. On the other hand, this optical intubating technique also has some technical limitations that need to be addressed, including camera lens fogging, airway path disorientation, and obscured visibility due to secretions.

Article Synopsis
  • Microsurgery is the primary treatment for large vestibular schwannomas (VS), but the effects of radiosurgery (specificallyGKRS) need more research to clarify benefits and long-term outcomes.
  • A study of 39 patients who received GKRS for large VS showed a majority had favorable outcomes, with factors like smaller tumor volume and less brainstem deformity linked to better results.
  • The research indicates that assessing brainstem deformity can help predict clinical outcomes, while tumor regression is particularly tied to the cystic volume-to-tumor volume ratio.

Background: Ischemic stroke poses a major threat to human beings, and a prompt intravenous thrombolytic management remains the gold standard protocol for stroke sufferers. Although the role of thrombolytic therapy (r-tPA) for ischemic stroke patients and those with underlying impaired renal function has been advocated as effective treating strategy, there is still a lack of investigation as to finding out baseline important variables that are capable of early outcome prediction.

Objectives: In this project, we hypothesize that the change of clinical chronic kidney disease (CKD) staging (delta stage = CKD stage after 3-month follow-up - CKD stage at admission) could serve as a crucial predictor of the prognosis of patients.

Cardiovascular Center, Taichung Veterans General Hospital and Chiayi Branch, Taichung and Chiayi, Taiwan; Department of Internal Medicine, Faculty of Medicine, Institute of Clinical Medicine, Institute of Biomedical Engineering, National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University School of Medicine, Taipei and Hsinchu, Taiwan; Heart Rhythm Center and Division of Cardiology, Department of Medicine, Taipei Veterans General Hospital, Taipei, Taiwan. Electronic address:

Background: Therapeutic hypothermia (TH) increases the susceptibility to ventricular arrhythmias (VAs) by prolonging action potential duration (APD) and facilitating arrhythmogenic spatially discordant alternans (SDA). Levosimendan, a calcium sensitizer, has been reported to shorten APD by enhancing the adenosine triphosphate (ATP)-sensitive K current.

Objective: The purpose of this study was to test the hypothesis that, during TH, levosimendan shortens the already prolonged APD, attenuates SDA, and prevents VA.
