Since red beans have poor textural properties, fermentation is commonly used to help produce better pulse products. To obtain BLR-E50, red beans are fermented using a co-culture of Bacillus subtilis and Lactobacillus bulgaricus, followed by extraction with 50% ethanol. The present data demonstrate that BLR-E50 did not exhibit mutagenicity, genotoxicity, or subacute oral toxicity.

Objectives: Postoperative pain, nausea and vomiting adversely affect postoperative rehabilitation after total knee arthroplasty (TKA). We aimed to identify factors associated with postoperative pain trajectory and postoperative nausea and vomiting (PONV) and evaluated the effects of different analgesic modalities.
Methods: We retrospectively reviewed patients undergoing unilateral primary TKA from 2017 to 2022.

Background: Atrial fibrillation (AF) increases the risks of stroke and mortality. It remains unclear whether rhythm control reduces the risk of stroke in patients with AF concomitant with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM).
Methods: We identified AF patients with HCM who were ≥ 18 years old in the Taiwan National Health Insurance Database.

: Microcalcifications in the breast are often an early warning sign of breast cancer, and their accurate detection is crucial for the early discovery and management of the disease. In recent years, deep learning technology, particularly models based on object detection, has significantly improved the ability to detect microcalcifications. This study aims to use the advanced YOLO-v8 object detection algorithm to identify breast microcalcifications and explore its advantages in terms of performance and clinical application.

Purpose: Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) causes post-acute sequelae of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), including pulmonary vasculopathy, increasing thrombotic risk. Screening and treating survivors are essential to reduce associated disabilities. We aim to investigate the clinical characteristics of patients with post-COVID-19 condition and pulmonary embolism, as well as their health-related quality of life one year after COVID-19 diagnosis.

Kawasaki Disease (KD) is a rare febrile illness affecting infants and young children, potentially leading to coronary artery complications and, in severe cases, mortality if untreated. However, KD is frequently misdiagnosed as a common fever in clinical settings, and the inherent data imbalance further complicates accurate prediction when using traditional machine learning and statistical methods. This paper introduces two advanced approaches to address these challenges, enhancing prediction accuracy and generalizability.

Background: Epidural blood patching (EBP) is the primary treatment for spontaneous intracranial hypotension (SIH), although multiple attempts may sometimes be necessary. The SIH-EBP score, with a cutoff of ≥3, predicts the response to the first EBP. However, its generalizability requires further confirmation.

Branched-chain amino acids (BCAAs) are essential for muscle protein synthesis and are widely acknowledged for mitigating sarcopenia. Oligonol (Olg), a low-molecular-weight polyphenol from , has also been found to attenuate sarcopenia by improving mitochondrial quality and positive protein turnover. This study aims to investigate the effect of Olg on BCAA-stimulated protein synthesis in sarcopenia.

Background: This retrospective study aimed to evaluate the short-term recovery and cost-effectiveness of bilateral unicompartmental knee arthroplasty (UKA) compared to staged unilateral UKA. The study analyzed postoperative pain scores, medical costs, and complications in patients with knee osteoarthritis who underwent these procedures.
Methods: A total of 226 patients who received either unilateral UKA (Group A, = 170) or bilateral UKA (Group B, = 56) using the mobile-bearing UKA were included in the study.

: The treatment-free interval is a significant predictor of worse prognosis and poor response rates of the second-line treatment in patients with carboplatin and paclitaxel (PT)-pretreated, advanced, or recurrent endometrial cancer (EC). Whether lenvatinib plus pembrolizumab still confers a survival benefit compared with doxorubicin in patients with platinum-free intervals of <6 months remains unclear. : This multi-institutional retrospective analysis was performed using de-identified electronic health records from the TriNetX Research Network.

To investigate the relationship between preoperative blood glucose levels and long-term all-cause mortality in patients with osteoporotic vertebral compression fractures (OVCF) who underwent percutaneous vertebroplasty (VP). This single-center retrospective study involved a chart review of patients admitted for VP to treat OVCF between 2013 and 2020. Patients with pathological or multiple fractures or those who did not undergo bone mineral density assessment were excluded.

The individual ingredients of 1,3-Propanediol, Soline, and Fucocert (PSF) are often used as cosmetic formulations in skin care. In addition, the mixture of Lecigel, CetiolCC, Activonol-6, and Activonol-M (LCAA) is often used as a cosmetic base. However, whether the combination of LCAA with PSF (LCAA-PSF) exerts a therapeutic effect on psoriasis remains unclear.

The aim of this case series report is to provide a new topical view of styletubation (video intubating stylet technique) in obese patients undergoing bariatric surgeries. In contrast to various conventional direct laryngoscopes (DLs), videolaryngoscopes (VLs) have been applied in such obese populations with potentially difficult airway complications. The safety and effectiveness of VLs have been repeatedly studied, and the superiority of VLs has then been observed in and advocated for routine use.
