For years in dental school settings, the teaching of dental history was extolled and emphasized as to the roots of the dental profession. Many colleagues can probably cite the names of those who contributed to this achievement within their academic environments. Most of these academicians were also clinicians who valued the role of history in the progression of dentistry as a respected profession.

Two long-acting formulations of buprenorphine are commercially available as analgesics for rodents. However, these drugs have not yet been studied in nude mice. We sought to investigate whether the manufacturer-recommended or labeled mouse doses of either drug would provide and sustain the purported therapeutic plasma concentration of buprenorphine (1 ng/mL) over 72 h in nude mice and to characterize the injection site histopathology.

Background: It remains unclear if intensive antiplatelet and statin treatments begun within 24-72 hours of cerebral ischaemic events from intracranial or extracranial atherosclerosis is effective or safe.
Methods: The Intensive Statin and Antiplatelet Therapy for High-risk Intracranial or Extracranial Atherosclerosis (INSPIRES) trial is a randomised, double-blind, placebo-controlled, multicentre and 2×2 factorial trial. 6100 individuals between the ages of 35 and 80 who have experienced a mild ischaemic stroke or high-risk transient ischaemic attack (TIA) within the previous 72 hours that is attributed to ≥50% atherosclerotic stenosis of a major intracranial or extracranial artery or multiple infarctions of atherosclerotic origin will be enrolled in the trial.

Objective: The Lifestyle Intervention for oVarian cancer Enhanced Survival (LIVES) is a national study of a combined diet and physical activity intervention for stage II-IV ovarian cancer survival, an under-represented cancer in lifestyle behavioral intervention research. Here, we present the data on recruitment, retention, and baseline demographic, clinical and lifestyle behavior characteristics of the LIVES study participants.
Methods: The LIVES study (NRG Oncology/GOG 0225) is a Phase III diet plus physical activity intervention trial testing the hypothesis that ovarian cancer survivors in the lifestyle intervention will demonstrate better progression-free survival than those in the control condition.

Background: Artificial intelligence is currently being used to facilitate early disease detection, better understand disease progression, optimize medication/treatment dosages, and uncover promising novel treatments and potential outcomes.
Methods: Utilizing the Sequenced Treatment Alternatives to Relieve Depression (STAR*D) dataset, we built a machine learning model to predict depression remission rates using same clinical data as features for each of the first three antidepressant treatment steps in STAR*D. We only used early treatment data (baseline and first follow up) in each STAR*D step to temporally analyze predictive features of remission at the end of the step.

The dental historical literature is replete with the use of myriad of materials for root canal obturation; most notably, gutta-percha, silver cones, gold wires, orangewood sticks, gold foils, asbestos, a variety of paste/cement-type materials, iridioplatinum wires, lead points and a rather lengthy list of arbitrarily chosen substances based on the imagination and creativity of the treating professional..

Quite often in today's contemporary literature, phrases, or statements such as, or similar to the following, are often seen at the beginning of published manuscript, Often these types of statements are used as a justification or a rationale for the published paper that follows. However, when looking carefully at the purported issue or issues at hand, there usually is to follow that requires a passionate inquisitiveness, an intellectual persistence, and a monumental determination to find the truth…but even what is discovered in this relentless pursuit may not necessarily represent the truth that may remain elusive. Hence, this historical exposé will focus on a specific issue about a little tissue that most contemporary authors have passed off as a mysterious, unknown entity - From 1969 to 2021, there have been over 100 publications or more that have addressed pulp stones purely from an epidemiological or management standpoint, with minimal to no effort to identify their true source or etiology, which may be locked in the vaults of antiquity.

Attempts to develop a test for pulp vitality has had a somewhat convoluted history, as the concept of 'vitality' has been the pivotal focus of , especially when using electrical stimulation. Some researchers attempted histological correlations while others focused exclusively on radiographic correlations to validate electrical methods of pulp testing. Some the early literature rightfully focused on the concept of sensibility (a contemporary term in common usage) instead of vitality.

Many commentators argue that, until the 1980s, Brisbane and Queensland were cultural backwaters within the Australian context. However, with the hosting of the highly successful (1982) and (1988) and with the development of the Queensland Cultural (1976-) and South Bank (1974-) Precincts, Brisbane and Queensland cast aside perennial apologism to acquire prominence, maturity, and self-respect. Within these national, state, and municipal settings, the theme, timing, and venue for the (1985) involved risk.

The COVID-19 pandemic demonstrated the need for inexpensive, easy-to-use, rapidly mass-produced resuscitation devices that could be quickly distributed in areas of critical need. In-line miniature ventilators based on principles of fluidics ventilate patients by automatically oscillating between forced inspiration and assisted expiration as airway pressure changes, requiring only a continuous supply of pressurized oxygen. Here, we designed three miniature ventilator models to operate in specific pressure ranges along a continuum of clinical lung injury (mild, moderate, and severe injury).

The approach utilized a systematic review of the medical literature executed with specifically designed criteria that focused on the etiologies and pathogenesis of hypoparathyroidism. Enhanced attention by endocrine surgeons to new knowledge about parathyroid gland viability are reviewed along with the role of intraoperative parathyroid hormone (ioPTH) monitoring during and after neck surgery. Nonsurgical etiologies account for a significant proportion of cases of hypoparathyroidism (~25%), and among them, genetic etiologies are key.

In this commentary, we describe the potential of highly ablative doses utilizing Stereotactic Body Radiation Therapy (SBRT) in single or few fractions to enhance immune-responsiveness, how timing of this approach in combination with immune-checkpoint inhibitors may augment treatment-effect, and whether Personalized Ultrafractionated Stereotactic Adaptive Radiation Therapy (PULSAR) is an avenue for future advancement in the continued endeavor to foster a systemic effect of therapy beyond the radiation treatment field. The ablative potential of SBRT may support an increase in tumor-antigen presentation, enhancement of immune-stimulatory components, and an improvement in tumor-microenvironment immune cell infiltration. Furthermore, the latest advancement of ablative radiation delivery is PULSAR-based therapy, whereby ablative doses are delivered in pulses of treatment that may be several weeks apart, combined with adaptive treatment to tumor changes across time.
