Article Synopsis
  • - Patients with oligometastatic prostate cancer (having up to 5 metastases) generally have a better prognosis than those with more extensive disease, making this a crucial area for treatment investigation.
  • - The study investigates whether combining stereotactic body radiotherapy (SBRT) with the immune checkpoint inhibitor durvalumab can improve progression-free survival in these patients compared to SBRT alone.
  • - This multicenter phase II trial will evaluate various outcomes, including quality of life and immune response, by enrolling 96 participants over three years, aiming to provide insights into better treatment strategies for prostate cancer.

Introduction: Several studies have shown that emotional competence (EC) impacts cancer adjustment via anxiety and depression symptoms. The objective was to test this model for the quality of life (QoL) of partners: first, the direct effect of partners' EC on their QoL, anxiety and depression symptoms after cancer diagnosis (T1), after chemotherapy (T2) and after radiotherapy (T3); Second, the indirect effects of partners' EC at T1 on their QoL at T2 and T3 through anxiety and depression symptoms.

Methods: 192 partners of women with breast cancer completed a questionnaire at T1, T2 and T3 to assess their EC (PEC), anxiety and depression symptoms (HADS) and QoL (Partner-YW-BCI).

[Hematological pathologies: the most successful model of de-escalation in radiotherapy].

Cancer Radiother

October 2022

Institut inter-régionaL de Cancérologie (ILC) - Centre Jean Bernard, 9, Rue Beauverger, 72000 Le Mans, France; Service de radiothérapie, centre régional universitaire de cancérologie Henry-S.-Kaplan, hôpital Bretonneau, CHRU de Tours, 2, boulevard Tonnellé, 37044 Tours, France; COLIB, Club des Oncologues LIBéraux, 72000 Le Mans, France.

The proportion of patients irradiated in the context of malignant hematological pathologies decreased over the last decades. The main causes are the late side effects of the historical series and the new therapeutic strategies aiming to relay radiotherapy to the rank of option. At the same time, radiotherapy has been modernised, target volumes and total doses have been drastically reduced.

A brief history of malaria.

Presse Med

September 2022

Professeur émérite, Parasitologie, Médecine Tropicale, Centre Hospitalier Universitaire Pitié-Salpêtrière, Sorbonne Université Paris Médecine, Académie Nationale de Médecine.

For millions of years, invertebrates and malaria parasites have coexisted and to date, malaria remains the most important human parasitic disease. This co-evolution had profound impacts on the movements of early hominids and on the genome of modern humans. Over the past two centuries, progress has been made with the discovery of the parasite, its transmission, and medicines, paving the way to the control of the disease and its elimination in some countries.

February 2022

Service de Génétique Médicale, CHU Nantes, 44093 Nantes, France; Université de Nantes, CHU Nantes, CNRS, INSERM, l'Institut du Thorax, 44007 Nantes, France. Electronic address:

Article Synopsis
  • Nuclear deubiquitinase BAP1 is a crucial part of protein complexes that help regulate gene transcription by reversing the ubiquitination of histone 2A, and its loss can lead to cancer.
  • This study identified 11 rare, de novo germline BAP1 variants associated with a unique neurodevelopmental disorder, where most of these variants demonstrated a loss-of-function effect.
  • Functional analyses showed these variants impaired histone modifications, leading to significant changes in chromatin states and contributing to dysregulation of genes essential for development.

[Assessment of trainee urologists' knowledge in urogenital anatomy].

Prog Urol

March 2022

Departement d'urologie, transplantation rénale et andrologie, CHU Toulouse, 1, avenue du Professeur Jean-Poulhès, 31400 Toulouse, France.

The purpose of this study was to assess trainee urologists' [interns and assistant heads of university hospitals (CHU)] knowledge of the anatomy of the urogenital system. An examination consisting of 10 timed (16minutes) multiple-choice questions (MCQ) based on urogenital anatomy assessments for students in third year of the general medical science diploma program (DFGSM3) was sent to members of the French Association of Trainee Urologists (AFUF) in May 2018 in order to compare the average scores of these two populations. In addition, a questionnaire consisting of epidemiological data, their opinion on the quality of education in anatomy and the willingness to have more courses on this subject was included in the examination.

Does ageing alter the contribution of health to subjective well-being?

Soc Sci Med

January 2021

SPHERE (UMR INSERM 1246), Université de Nantes, Université de Tours, Institut de Recherche en Santé 2 (IRS2), 22 boulevard Bénoni Goullin, 44200, Nantes, France. Electronic address:

Older adults regularly report rising levels of Subjective Well-Being (SWB) over time, despite a concomitant decline in their health. One possible explanation is that individuals develop psychological mechanisms to diminish the contribution of health to their well-being as they get older. This research examines whether observational data are consistent with this hypothesis of hedonic adaptation to health decline with ageing, in all aspects of SWB, and for different births cohorts over time.

Background: Rheumatologists must contend with COVID-19 pandemic in the management of their patients and many questions have been raised on the use of both anti-inflammatory drugs and disease-modifying anti-rheumatic drugs (DMARD). The French Society of Rheumatology (SFR) selected the most critical ones to the daily practice of a rheumatologist and a group of 10 experts from SFR and Club Rheumatism and Inflammation (CRI) boards proposed responses based on the current knowledge of May 2020.

Methods: Following the availability of the first 18 questions and statements, 1400 individuals consulted the frequently asked questions between the March 31, 2020 and April 12, 2020.

Hepatitis B virus (HBV) core protein (HBc) is essential to the formation of the HBV capsid. HBc contains two domains: the N-terminal domain corresponding to residues 1-140 essential to form the icosahedral shell and the C-terminal domain corresponding to a basic and phosphorylated peptide, and required for DNA replication. The role of these two domains for HBV capsid assembly was essentially studied in vitro with HBc purified from mammalian or non-mammalian cell lysates, but their respective role in living cells remains to be clarified.
