In the era of a constantly growing number of reports on the therapeutic properties of dedifferentiated, ontogenetically rejuvenated cells and their use in the treatment of neurological diseases, the optimization of their derivation and long-term culture methods seem to be crucial. One of the solutions is seen in the use of dedifferentiated fat cells (DFATs) which are characterized by a greater homogeneity. Moreover, these cells seem to possess a higher expression of transcriptional factors necessary to maintain pluripotency (STRFs) as well as a greater ability to differentiate in vitro into three embryonic germ layers, and a high proliferative potential in comparison to adipose stem/stromal cells (ASCs).

Background: The Mendelian Disorders of Cornification (MeDOC) comprise a large number of disorders that present with either localised (palmoplantar keratoderma, PPK) or generalised (ichthyoses) signs. The MeDOC are highly heterogenic in terms of genetics and phenotype. Consequently, diagnostic process is challenging and before implementation of the next generation sequencing, was mostly symptomatic, not causal, which limited research on those diseases.

Human induced pluripotent stem cells (hiPSCs) are a potential source of somatic cells for cell therapies due to their ability to self-renew and differentiate into various cells of the body. To date, the clinical application of hiPSCs has been limited due to safety issues. The present study aims to standardize the safety procedure of the derivation of GMP-compliant induced pluripotent stem cell (iPSC) lines from human fibroblasts.

Introduction Patient-reported outcome measurements (PROMs) are gaining considerable popularity as tools to assess the effectiveness of the treatment in plastic surgery, being a complement to surgical outcomes. The SCAR-Q questionnaire has been recently developed for patients with surgical, traumatic, and burn scars. Aim The study aims to describe the process of translation and linguistic validation of the scar questionnaire (SCAR-Q) for use in Polish patients undergoing scar treatment.

Introduction: Recent studies have revealed that Aquafilling gel used for breast augmentation causes complications. In this study, we investigated which surgical approach should be used to treat these complications.
Materials And Methods: This observational cohort study analysed the data of 31 women suffering from complications after breast enlargement with Aquafilling injection who were treated at our department in 2016-2021.

The gene encodes an ATP-binding cassette transporter that is expressed specifically in the disc of photoreceptor outer segments. Mutations in the gene are the main cause of retinal degenerations known as "-retinopathies." Recent research has revealed that is expressed in other cells as well, such as hair follicles and keratinocytes, although no information on its significance has been evidenced so far.

Breast augmentation is one of the most popular cosmetic surgery procedures in the world and it requires a comprehensive study of the methods performed. As less-invasive techniques are sought, tissue fillers have found its purpose in these procedures. However, it has been revealed that some of them may be associated with serious complications.

Purpose: The work presents outcomes of simulated maxillofacial skeleton osteotomies supported with cutting guides or one of two AR-based intraoperative navigation systems.
Material And Methods: The series of osteotomies supported with a cutting guide, simple AR (sAR) or navigated AR (nAR) module were carried out on 15 (five per each method) skull models according to the virtual surgical plan (VSP). Each method was used to support 40 osteotomies involving the upper jaw and 40 involving the orbital region (16 osteotomies on each model).

Background: The epidermis forms the barrier between an organism and its external environment. Although one of the major functional elements of the epidermis is the lipid-enriched extracellular matrix, containing mainly ceramides, cholesterol (CHOL) and free fatty acids, the data are limited regarding the lipid profile in the epidermis. The aim of the study was to determine the whole profile of fatty acids (FAs) in the epidermis and to examine any dependence according to the age of the subject and the site on the epidermis.

The application of mesenchymal stem/stromal cells (MSC) in regenerative medicine offers hope for the effective treatment of incurable or difficult-to-heal diseases. However, it requires the development of unified protocols for both safe and efficient cell acquisition and clinical usage. The therapeutic effect of fat grafts (containing stem cells) in non-healing wounds has been discussed in previous studies, although the application requires local or general anaesthesia.

The development of an effective method of melanocyte isolation and culture is necessary for basic and clinical studies concerning skin diseases, including skin pigmentation disorders and melanoma. In this paper, we describe a novel, non-enzymatic and effective method of skin melanocyte and metastatic melanoma cell isolation and culture (along with the spontaneous spheroid creation) from skin or lymph node explants. The method is based on the selective harvesting of melanocytes and melanoma cells emigrating from the cultured explants.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to develop and verify an intraoperative module for supporting navigated biopsy procedures using optical see-through head-mounted display (HMD).
Methods: Biopsy procedure including entry and endpoints of needle insertion was planned preoperatively having regard to the resection region segmentation and safety margin definition. Biopsy procedures were performed by two users using an intraoperative optical navigation module on a specially prepared brain phantom.

Currently, the number of stem-cell based experimental therapies in neurological injuries and neurodegenerative disorders has been massively increasing. Despite the fact that we still have not obtained strong evidence of mesenchymal stem/stromal cells' neurogenic effectiveness in vivo, research may need to focus on more appropriate sources that result in more therapeutically promising cell populations. In this study, we used dedifferentiated fat cells (DFAT) that are proven to demonstrate more pluripotent abilities in comparison with standard adipose stromal cells (ASCs).

The reconstruction of nerve continuity after traumatic nerve injury is the gold standard in hand surgery. Immediate, tension-free, end-to-end nerve suture ensures the best prognosis. The recovery is mostly promising; however, in a few cases, insufficient outcomes in motor or sensory function are observed.

Autoimmune syndrome induced by adjuvants (ASIA) is the spectrum of diseases in which the substances considered inert to the body induce autoimmune reactions and inflammation. Some of the biomaterials recently used in plastic surgery, such as silicone or polyacrylamide hydrogel (PAAG) seem to trigger clinical features of ASIA. The aim of this study was to assess the incidence of these features within a group of women after breast augmentation with PAAG.

Background: Our goal was to determine whether N-acetylcysteine (NAC) administered to the tumescent solution can reduce oxidative stress and increase autologous fat graft (AFG) viability.
Methods: The study included 15 women with a mean age of 31.8 years (range 23-39 years) who underwent breast asymmetry correction with AFG harvested from both thighs.

Background: Because of its subjective character, the term "breast attractiveness" is poorly defined and thus its reliable standardized assessment can be particularly challenging. Because of objective analysis of the observer's gaze pattern, eye-tracking technology may provide a better insight into the visual perception of breast aesthetics and symmetry.
Methods: One hundred observers, 50 women and 50 men, assessed the aesthetics and symmetry of eight types of female breasts displayed as digital images on frontal, lateral, and oblique projections.

Background: Little is known about breast cancer survivors' perception of breast attractiveness. A better understanding of this subjective concept could contribute to the improvement of patient-reported outcomes after reconstructive surgeries and facilitate the development of new methods for assessing breast reconstruction outcomes.
Objectives: The aim of this eye-tracking (ET)-based study was to verify whether mastectomy altered women's visual perception of breast aesthetics and symmetry.
