Frykman Type 7-8 Distal Radius Fractures in Elderly Patients: Conservative Treatment vs Volar Plating.

Introduction: The aim of this study was to determine the clinical outcomes of conservative and surgical treatments in elderly patients with displaced Frykman type 7-8 distal radius fractures.

Methods: The clinical outcomes of 50 patients aged 60 and older with displaced Frykman type 7-8 fractures who underwent surgical and conservative treatments between January 2019 and January 2022 were determined. The joint range of motion, pain scores, functional scores, radiological parameters, and any complications that occurred posttreatment were evaluated for each patient who underwent both treatments.

Pediatric Early Warning Score (PEWS) in predicting prognosis of critical pediatric trauma patients: a retrospective study.

Background: This study aimed to compare the predictive value of Pediatric Early Warning Score (PEWS) to Pediatric Risk of Mortality-3 (PRISM-3), Pediatric Trauma Score (PTS), and Pediatric Glasgow Coma Score (pGCS) in determining clinical severity and mortality among critical pediatric trauma patients.

Method: A total of 122 patients monitored due to trauma in the pediatric intensive care unit between 2020 and 2023 were included in the study. Physical examination findings, vital parameters, laboratory values, and all scoring calculations for patients during emergency room admissions and on the first day of intensive care follow-up were recorded.

CilioGenics: an integrated method and database for predicting novel ciliary genes.

Uncovering the full list of human ciliary genes holds enormous promise for the diagnosis of cilia-related human diseases, collectively known as ciliopathies. Currently, genetic diagnoses of many ciliopathies remain incomplete (1-3). While various independent approaches theoretically have the potential to reveal the entire list of ciliary genes, approximately 30% of the genes on the ciliary gene list still stand as ciliary candidates (4,5).

Factors affecting prognosis and need for anti-vascular endothelial growth factor injections in wet age-related macular degeneration.

Purpose: To understand factors affecting visual prognosis and the number of intravitreal antivascular endothelial growth factor (anti-VEGF) injections needed to stabilize wet age-related macular degeneration (AMD).

Methods: In this retrospective cohort, 119 treatment-naïve wet AMD patients were followed for two years. In patients with bilateral disease, the eye with worse best-corrected visual acuity (BCVA) or that received more intravitreal injections was recruited as the study eye.

Materials And Methods: This prospective study was conducted between August and December 2023 and included consecutive patients with markers placed in the breast and axilla, both before and after neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NACT). Examinations were conducted using a 14 to 5 MHz linear array transducer with B-mode and Doppler capability.

Clinical and Sonographic Evaluation of the Effectiveness of Extracorporeal Shock Wave Therapy in Patients with Lateral Epicondylitis.

Objective: This study assessed and compare the clinical and sonographic outcomes of extracorporeal shock wave therapy (ESWT) in patients with lateral epicondylitis (LE).

Methods: Forty-two LE patients were randomly divided into two groups: the ESWT group (n=21) and the sham-ESWT control group (n=21). Both groups underwent wrist resting splinting, stretching, strengthening exercises for wrist extensors, and ice application.

Evaluation of pediatric rheumatologists' approach to rituximab use: a questionnaire study.

Unlabelled: Rituximab (RTX) is a chimeric monoclonal antibody that targets the CD20 antigen on B cells and is used in various autoimmune disorders. In this study, we aimed to measure the awareness of pediatric rheumatologists about the use of RTX through a survey. Between February and March 2023, a 42-question survey was sent via email to pediatric rheumatology specialists in Turkey.

Aphakia treatment with sutureless scleral fixation or retropupillary iris-claw intraocular lens implantation: visual acuity, anterior segment and keratometry outcomes.

Purpose: Evaluation of anterior segment parameters using the Scheimpflug corneal topography 1 year after surgery in patients who underwent sutureless scleral fixation intraocular lens (SFIOL) implantation using the modified Yamane technique and retropupillary iris-claw intraocular lens (RPIOL) implantation.

Methods: A total of 60 eyes from 57 patients who underwent sutureless SFIOL implantation and 57 eyes from 52 patients who underwent RPIOL implantation were included. Anterior chamber depth (ACD), anterior chamber angle (ACA), anterior chamber volume (ACV), anterior-posterior corneal astigmatism, and keratometric values were assessed using the Scheimpflug corneal topography (Pentacam HR, Germany).

Health conditions of first-degree relatives of children with familial Mediterranean fever.

Background: Given the strong genetic background of familial Mediterranean fever (FMF), the frequently reported co-existing diseases in children with FMF should also be investigated in other family members. Therefore, we aimed to examine the medical conditions of first-degree relatives (FDRs) of our pediatric patients with FMF in the present study.

Methods: Chronic diseases of FDRs of pediatric 449 FMF, 147 juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA) patients and 93 healthy controls (HC) were questioned during their routine clinical visits for 9 consecutive months.

Impacts of Chlorine 1-3 ıon channels on localized bladder neoplasms.

Bladder tumors occur more frequently in men than in women and are the fourth most common malignancy after prostate, lung, and colon cancers. In this study, we examined the expression of chlorine ion channel 1 and chlorine ion channel 3 in localized bladder tumors according to their stage. We conducted a retrospective analysis of a prospective cohort study spanning from May 2018 to January 2020.

Reporting the clinical spectrum of children with IgAV in a retrospective 24-year cohort: Influences of age and sex on clinical presentation.

Background/aim: Immunoglobulin A vasculitis (IgAV) is one of the most common types of vasculitis in children. The aims of this study were to investigate the clinical characteristics of the disease, and the effects of age and sex on the clinical course in children with IgAV.

Materials And Methods: This was a retrospective study including pediatric patients diagnosed with IgAV who attended follow-ups at the pediatric rheumatology department of a tertiary healthcare institution between January 1997 and December 2020.

Vestibulo-Ocular Reflex in the Aging Population.

Objectives: The aim of this study was to evaluate vestibulo-ocular reflex (VOR) of individuals over 60 years of age who have not been diagnosed with a specific vestibular pathology.

Methods: Bilateral six-semicircular canal video head impulse test (vHIT), Dizziness Handicap Inventory and European Evaluation of Vertigo scales were applied to participants.

Results: In total, 103 participants were included in the study (75 male, 28 female), and the mean age was 69.

Follistatin as a Potential Biomarker for Identifying Metabolically Healthy and Unhealthy Obesity: A Cross-Sectional Study.

Metabolically healthy obesity (MHO) refers to obese individuals with a favorable metabolic profile, without severe metabolic abnormalities. This study aimed to investigate the potential of follistatin, a regulator of metabolic balance, as a biomarker to distinguish between metabolically healthy and unhealthy obesity. This cross-sectional study included 30 metabolically healthy and 32 metabolically unhealthy individuals with obesity.

Determinants of social participation in people with disability.

Purpose: In this study, it is aimed to determine personal wellbeing and social participation levels across different physical disability types and levels of mobility.

Methods: A sample of 85 individuals with physical disabilities, excluding those with mental disabilities were included. Sociodemographics, mobility of the participants, cause, duration of disability were recorded.

The Comparison of Individual and Group Hybrid Telerehabilitation Methods in Women with Urinary Incontinence.

Introduction And Hypothesis: The aim is to compare the effects of the progressive training program (PTP), a new protocol, with two different hybrid telerehabilitation methods, on the parameters related to urinary incontinence in women with urinary incontinence.

Methods: A total of 50 participants with stress or mixed urinary incontinence participated in this two-arm, parallel-group, randomized, non-inferiority trial. Individual hybrid training (IHT) or group hybrid training (GHT) was given to women for 8 weeks.

Conservative Treatment in Adult Degenerative Scoliosis: a Prospective Cohort Study.

Adult degenerative scoliosis (ADS) is a coronal deviation of the spine greater than 10° resulting from the progressive degeneration of the vertebral elements in middle age, which is a three-dimensional deformity. In this study, the effect of conservative treatment methods on pain, disability, and quality of life of patients with ADS was evaluated. Thirty females with ADS were included in the present study.
