CilioGenics: an integrated method and database for predicting novel ciliary genes.

Nucleic Acids Res

August 2024

Rare Disease Laboratory, School of Life and Natural Sciences, Abdullah Gul University, Kayseri, Turkiye.

Uncovering the full list of human ciliary genes holds enormous promise for the diagnosis of cilia-related human diseases, collectively known as ciliopathies. Currently, genetic diagnoses of many ciliopathies remain incomplete (1-3). While various independent approaches theoretically have the potential to reveal the entire list of ciliary genes, approximately 30% of the genes on the ciliary gene list still stand as ciliary candidates (4,5).

Medeni Med J

June 2024

Istanbul Goztepe Prof. Dr. Suleyman Yalcin City Hospital, Clinic of Internal Medicine, Division of Endocrinology and Metabolic Diseases, Istanbul, Türkiye.

Article Synopsis
  • - Dipeptidyl-peptidase 4 inhibitors (DPP4i) are widely used and generally considered safe for treating diabetes, but new evidence suggests they might cause some adverse effects.
  • - Recent cases have shown a link between DPP4i medications and the skin condition bullous pemphigoid (BP), especially in elderly patients; four cases were reported involving the drugs linagliptin and vildagliptin.
  • - All patients experienced remission from BP after stopping the DPP4i and using topical corticosteroids, highlighting the need for doctors to monitor potential BP risks when prescribing these drugs to older patients.
