Flexible and navigable suction ureteral access sheath (FANS) is a potential game changer in flexible ureteroscopy (FURS). The influence of sheath size on outcomes needs research. The primary aim was to analyze 30-day single stage stone free status (SFS), zero fragment rate (ZFR) and complications when using 10/12Fr sheaths vis a vis other sheath sizes.

To outline the current status of Shock Wave Lithotripsy (SWL) in stone treatment and the changes in the mode of application after the COVID-19 pandemic along with critical factors affecting the clinical practice of this particular procedure. This study targeted national and international urology experts who could share and contribute their experiences and perspectives on SWL practices after COVID-19 era. Approximately 650 urology specialists were invited to participate in the survey based study via Google Forms.

Article Synopsis
  • The study examines how urine pH and specific gravity affect the energy used during Extracorporeal Shock Wave Lithotripsy (ESWL), a treatment for kidney stones.
  • A total of 129 patients were analyzed, focusing on stone-free rates, complications, and various patient characteristics while evaluating the relationship between energy use and these factors.
  • Findings indicate that higher urine pH (more alkaline) correlates with less energy needed for treatment, but no significant links were found with other factors like age or stone size.

The aim of this study was to construct the sixth in a series of guidelines on the treatment of urolithiasis by the International Alliance of Urolithiasis (IAU) that by providing a clinical framework for the management of pediatric patients with urolithiasis based on the best available published literature. All recommendations were summarized following a systematic review and assessment of literature in the PubMed database from January 1952 to December 2023. Each generated recommendation was graded using a modified GRADE methodology.

The circulating androgens have a role in the pathogenesis of both acne vulgaris and androgenetic alopecia; an association between these two have been found previously. The aim of this study is to investigate the relationship of the severity of acne vulgaris lesions to the subtype of AGA; and to validate the relationship between severities of acne vulgaris and AGA. This study was conducted cross-sectionally at five different dermatology clinics.

Background: Retrograde intrarenal surgery (RIRS) is the main treatments for upper urinary tract stones. The Ureteral Access Sheath (UAS) serves as a supplementary tool, facilitating direct kidney access during RIRS. High quality of evidence comparing tip bendable suction ureteral access sheath (S-UAS) with traditional UAS in RIRS for the treatment of renal and ureteral stones is lacking.

: Despite numerous described techniques, laparoscopy has yet to replace open surgery as the gold standard for inguinal hernia (IH) repair in children. This may be due to many variables, including the lack of long-term follow-up and concern for increased recurrence. In this study, we present our long-term follow-up data on children undergoing percutaneous internal ring suturing (PIRS) for IH repair.

To identify the radiological parameters which may help to predict the success of ureteral access sheath (UAS) placement during retrograde intrarenal surgery (RIRS).The study included 49 patients in whom failure ureteral access sheath placement in RIRS and 49 control group patients who were successfully placement between January 2023 and December 2023. The age, gender, body mass index (BMI), non-contrast computed tomography (NCCT), and kidney ureter bladder (KUB) radiographs were compared between the two groups.

Purpose: To evaluate the role of certain radiological parameters and patient characteristics in predicting the success of endoscopic treatment in ureteral stricture disease.

Methods: Fifty one adult patients with ureteral stricture disease (< 1 cm) after developing due to upper ureteral stones with ureteroscopic laser disintegration were included and in addition to stone and patient parameters, radiological parameters including ureteral wall thickness (UWT) at the impacted stone site were also measured on computed tomography (CT) images. Patients were divided into two groups: Group 1: Patients with endoscopic treatment success and Group 2: Patients with endoscopic treatment failure.

The possible role of well-assessed radiological parameters in the prediction of ureteral stricture formation in cases with impacted obstructive ureteral calculi has been evaluated. 46 adult patients with or without ureteral stricture formation after ureteroscopic stone management were included. In addition to stone size and some certain radiological parameters including ureteral wall thickness (UWT) of the involved ureter at the impacted stone site was also measured and noted on computed tomography (CT) images.

In this study, we aimed to evaluate the effect of HPL on different parameters by different centers and urologists. While doing this, we evaluated different parameters by comparing HPL(High Power laser) and LPL(Low-power laser). This is an observational, retrospective, comparative, multicentric study of prospectively organised database.

To evaluate the necessity of confirmation for a negative urine culture test outcome after an appropriate antibiotic regimen for urinary tract infection (UTI) prior to endoscopic stone removal procedures. 170 cases receiving an appropriate antibiotic treatment for culture proven UTI based on test outcomes before endoscopic stone removal were evaluated in two groups: Group 1 (n = 85) Patients in whom a second urine culture test was performed to ensure "negative urine culture" status prior to the procedures after receiving antibiotic therapy and Group 2 (n = 85). Patients receiving the same antibiotic therapy without any additional urine culture test before the procedures.

July 2023

Cerrahpaşa Faculty of Medicine, Department of Neurology, Istanbul University-Cerrahpaşa, Istanbul, Turkey; Faculty of Medicine, Department of Neurology, Uludag University, Bursa, Turkey.

Article Synopsis
  • This study focuses on the effectiveness of COVID-19 vaccinations in people with multiple sclerosis (pwMS) taking various disease-modifying therapies (DMTs), primarily comparing mRNA vaccines (like Pfizer-BioNTech) with inactivated virus vaccines (like Sinovac).
  • Results showed that while both types of vaccines resulted in similar rates of seropositivity, the mRNA vaccine group had significantly higher antibody levels compared to the inactivated virus vaccine group.
  • The study also found that pwMS on certain DMTs, specifically ocrelizumab, fingolimod, and cladribine, had reduced humoral responses to the vaccines, highlighting the impact of therapies on vaccine efficacy
