Introduction: Atrial fibrillation (AF) presents a growing health concern, often requiring stroke prevention measures, primarily through oral anticoagulation (OAC). Surgical interventions such as left atrial appendage occlusion (LAAO) offer alternatives when OAC is contraindicated. In recent years, percutaneous procedures have gained traction as minimally invasive options, demanding precise anatomical insights.

The problem of cardiac arrest, particularly out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA), is the subject of continuous research. The aim of this study was to analyze the use of an automated external defibrillator (AED) during the resuscitation of an adult in public places in Poland between 2015 and 2020. A retrospective analysis of the selected documentation obtained from AED distributors, the medical records obtained from the emergency call center, and the emergency medical teams was conducted.

The standard method for nodal staging in breast cancer (BC) patients after neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NAC) is sentinel lymph node biopsy (SLNB) with a radioisotope (RI) injection. However, SLNB after NAC results in high false-negative rates (FNR), and the RI method is restricted by nuclear medicine unit dependency. These limitations resulted in the development of the superparamagnetic iron oxide (SPIO) method, reducing FNR and presenting a comparable detection rate.

Background: Left atrial appendage occlusion (LAAO) is a safe and effective alternative for stroke prevention in patients with atrial fibrillation (AF). However, there is little literature on the exact causes of death and adverse events during follow‑up after LAAO.
Aims: The primary aim of this study was to evaluate survival free of any serious adverse events and of any‑cause death in midterm follow‑up.

It is a well-known fact that positron emission tomography (PET) is an effective tool in the assessment of thyroid focal lesions, however only few studies so far have investigated its role in monitoring of autoimmune thyroid diseases (AITDs). The aim of this study is to assess if PET scan may be useful for the assessment of the thyroid gland in patients with an AITD-Hashimoto's thyroiditis. We evaluated twenty subjects with diagnosed Hashimoto's thyroiditis (proven by presence of elevated thyroid antibodies level and by thyroid imaging).

The main objective of the ACOSOG Z0011 trial was to determine the impact of abandoning complete axillary lymph node dissection (ALND) on survival of breast cancer patients with sentinel node lymph (SLN) metastasis in whom breast conserving therapy (BCT) had been performed. The aim of our study was to assess the clinical value of intra-operative histopathological examination of SLN. Our study comprised 1284 invasive breast cancer patients in whom sentinel lymph node biopsy (SLNB) was carried out.

Infertility as a result of antineoplastic therapy is becoming a very important issue due to the growing incidence of neoplastic diseases. Routinely applied antineoplastic treatments and the illness itself lead to fertility disorders. Therapeutic methods used in antineoplastic treatment may cause fertility impairment or sterilization due to permanent damage to reproductive cells.

The use of [(18)F]labelled nortropane derivative 2β-carbomethoxy-3β-(4-chlorophenyl)-8-(2-fluoroethyl)-nortropane (FECNT) as a dopamine transporter ligand for PET imaging is dependent on efficient radiosynthesis method. Herein, the automated synthesis of [(18)F]FECNT from its chlorinated precursor in commercially available SynChrom [(18)F] R&D module has been developed. The synthesis unit was readily configured for the one-step synthesis from corresponding chlorinated precursor.

Any diagnostic method for detection of occult metastases in sentinel lymph node (SLN) could change postoperative therapeutic management. In this study, we attempted to evaluate the usefulness of immunohistochemical (IHC) studies for histopathological SLN examination and their impact on the diagnosis of metastatic lesions. Analyzed data concerned 1358 breast cancer patients referred for sentinel lymph node biopsy (SLNB) between 2004 and 2012 with particular emphasis on broadening the scope of postoperative SLN histopathological assessment to include IHC.
