Nanoparticles are more promising than microcapsules as drug carriers because they can be absorbed directly by intestinal epithelial cells, significantly increasing the uptake and bioaccessibility of polyphenols. Our study aimed to use catechin (CC), epicatechin (EC) and proanthocyanidin (PAC) adsorption onto tapioca starch nanoparticles (TSNs), which were prepared by a physical method. These TSN loaded-polyphenols were subjected to adsorption kinetic, adsorption isotherm, adsorption capacity, antioxidant activity, and release analyses.

June 2022

Yunnan Key Laboratory of Wood Adhesives and Glued Products National Joint Engineering Research Center for Highly-Efficient Utilization of Forest Biomass Resources, Southwest Forestry University, 300 Bailong Road, Kunming 650224, China.

Carbon dots (CDs) are widely used nanomaterials that not only exhibit good biocompatibility and photostability, but also benefit from a simple preparation process and easy functionalization, making them promising for broad applications in the fields of heavy metal ion detection and optoelectronic devices. Based on the excellent optical properties of CDs and the current situation of increasing energy shortages, this paper selects the natural polyphenolic compound tannic acid (TA) found in biomass materials as the carbon source and innovatively adopts a simple and convenient solvent-free pyrolysis method without auxiliary reagents or solvents. The CDs with good water solubility and certain fluorescence properties were directly prepared under the condition of high temperature, and the obtained CDs exhibited blue fluorescence, and a high QY of 35.

The effect of storage time on green coffee volatile organic compounds (VOCs) was studied by their separation head space solid-phase microextraction and identification gas chromatography-ion mobility spectrometry. In total, 38 kinds of VOCs, mainly composed of alcohols, aldehydes, esters and ketones, were identified. The fingerprint showed that the VOCs produced by green coffee in different years had obvious differences, especially, acrolein, 3-methylbutyl acetate, butanoic acid, heptan-3-ol, and so on, that could be used to predict the storage time.

It well-known that the superior performance of natural rubber (NR) compared to its synthetic counterpart mainly derives from nonisoprene components and naturally occurring network, which varies during the progress of the maturation and thereby results in technically graded rubber with different properties. However, identifying the roles of these two factors in the forming of excellent performance of NR is still a challenge as they change simultaneously during the maturation process. Here, influences of naturally occurring networking and nonisoprene degradation on the components, structures and properties of NR were systematically investigated by tailored treatments of maturation.

Mechanically Robust Dual-Crosslinking Elastomer Enabled by a Facile Self-Crosslinking Approach.

Materials (Basel)

June 2022

State Key Laboratory of Polymer Materials Engineering, College of Polymer Science and Engineering, Sichuan University, Chengdu 610065, China.

We propose a simple but rapid strategy to fabricate self-crosslinked dual-crosslinking elastomers (SCDCEs) with high mechanical properties. The SCDCEs are synthesized through one-pot copolymerization of Butyl acrylate (BA), acrylic amide (AM), and 3-Methacryloxypropyltrimethoxysilane (MEMO). Both the amino group on AM and the methoxy group on MEMO can be self-crosslinked after polymerization to form a dual-network crosslink consisting of hydrogen bonds crosslink and Si-O-Si covalent bonds crosslink.

July 2022

Hubei Collaborative Innovation Center for Advanced Organic Chemical Materials & Ministry of Education Key Laboratory for the Synthesis and Application of Organic Functional Molecules & College of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, Hubei University, Wuhan, 430062, China.

Wearable electronics demand energy storage devices with high energy density and fast charging-discharging rates. Although various porous electrodes have been constructed, the effect of pore size on the capacitive performance of 2D nanomaterials has been rarely studied. Herein, flexible MXene foams with significantly different pore structures are fabricated using varying diameter polystyrene (PS) spheres (80, 310, and 570 nm), which shows uniform pores and interconnected pores providing enough active sites and a good electrical connection for electron transfer.

The current study aimed to assess the anti-diabetic effects and potential mechanisms of two polysaccharide fractions (SFPs, named SFP-1 and SFP-2). The carbohydrate-loading experiment revealed that SFP-2 could control postprandial hyperglycemia by inhibiting the activity of digestive enzymes in rats. The analysis of diabetic symptoms and serum profiles indicated that SFPs could mitigate diabetes accompanied by dyslipidemia, and SFP-2 showed better regulatory effects on body weight, food intake and the levels of total cholesterol (TC), triglycerides (TG), low density lipoprotein-cholesterol (LDL-C) and free fatty acid (FFA) in diabetic rats.

Acidic reagents play an important role in the preparation of carbon dots (CDs). Therefore, we prepared efficient green fluorescent CDs by potassium bisulfate, acetic acid and hydrochloric acid catalysis and discussed why the acid catalyst induced a fluorescence redshift and improved the quantum yield of the CDs. Furthermore, the concentration-dependent photoluminescence behaviour of the CDs was characterized.

Center for Smart Materials and Devices, State Key Laboratory of Advanced Technology for Materials Synthesis and Processing, Wuhan University of Technology, Luoshi Road 122, Wuhan 430070, China. Electronic address:

Three-dimensional (3D) porous molybdenum disulfide nanosheets/carbon nanofibers (MoS/CNF) hybrid aerogels were synthesized by using solvothermal method and following carbonization, where two-dimensional (2D) MoS nanosheets were homogenously in-situ grown on the interconnected CNF skeleton derived from bacterial cellulose, forming a hierarchical porous structure. This unique heterogeneous structure of the MoS/CNF hybrid aerogels were conducive to electromagnetic loss, including conduction, polarization, multi-scatterings, and reflections, thus resulting in a balanced impedance matching and microwave attenuation capacity. It was found that the resulted MoS/CNF hybrid aerogels demonstrate excellent microwave absorbing performance when the only 5.
