Achilles tendon ruptures are very common tendon ruptures and their incidence is increasing in modern society, resulting in work incapacity and months off sport, which generate a need for accelerated and successful therapeutic repair strategy. Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) is emerging as adjuvant human blood-derived constructs to assist Achilles tendon rupture treatment. However, myriad PRP preparation methods in conjunction with poor standardization in the modalities of their applications impinge on the consistent effectiveness of clinical and structural outcomes regarding their therapeutic efficacy.

In recent months, there has been a rapid spread of coronavirus disease (COVID-19), being now regarded as a global pandemic. In this context, the governments of different countries have established strict containment measures, and subsequent deconfinement measures, with consequential alterations in the rhythms and living habits of the population, including patients with bipolar disorder (BD), who are in an extremely vulnerable situation. The present paper aims to propose a number of recommendations, based on scientific evidence, for mental health professionals who may be in charge of BD patients during this health crisis in the coming months.

Objectives: The Janus kinase (JAK) inhibitor baricitinib may block viral entry into pneumocytes and prevent cytokine storm in patients with SARS-CoV-2 pneumonia. We aimed to assess whether baricitinib improved pulmonary function in patients treated with high-dose corticosteroids for moderate to severe SARS-CoV-2 pneumonia.
Methods: This observational study enrolled patients with moderate to severe SARS-CoV-2 pneumonia [arterial oxygen partial pressure (PaO2)/fraction of inspired oxygen (FiO2) <200 mmHg] who received lopinavir/ritonavir and HCQ plus either corticosteroids (CS group, n = 50) or corticosteroids and baricitinib (BCT-CS group, n = 62).

Locally advanced colorectal cancer is a challenge for surgeons and medical oncologist; 10 to 20% colorectal cancer debut as locally advanced disease, with tumors extending through the colon wall with perforation and/or invasion of adjacent organs or structures. Those locally advanced tumors have a worse prognostic at any stage due not only to systemic dissemination but also in a high percentage of patients, to locoregional recurrence, in fact, peritoneal carcinomatosis of colorectal origin is so predictable that we can assess the risk for each patient according to some histopathological and clinical features: small peritoneal nodules resected in the first surgery (70% probability), ovarian metastases (60%), perforated tumor onset or intraoperative tumor rupture (50%), positive cytology (40%), and pT4/mucinous pT3 up to 40%. Prophylactic or adjuvant hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy seems to be a promising strategy for patients with advanced colorectal cancer to prevent the development of peritoneal recurrence and improve prognosis of this group of patients.

We describe a 44-year-old man with visual impairment in his left eye (OS) and a past medical history of myopic refraction and ocular hypertension with latanoprost treatment, the rest of ocular examination was normal. A decrease in visual acuity was observed with a refractive change.

Background: Minimally invasive surgery in cervical cancer has demonstrated in recent publications worse outcomes than open surgery. The primary objective of the SUCCOR study, a European, multicenter, retrospective, observational cohort study was to evaluate disease-free survival in patients with stage IB1 (FIGO 2009) cervical cancer undergoing open vs minimally invasive radical hysterectomy. As a secondary objective, we aimed to investigate the association between protective surgical maneuvers and the risk of relapse.

Purpose: Thinner central corneal thickness (CCT) is a risk factor for conversion from ocular hypertension to glaucoma and for disease progression. However, little is known about the relationship between CCT and characteristics of the optic nerve and the retinal nerve fibre layer (RNFL) in non-glaucomatous eyes. Because myopic eyes may pose diagnostic challenges when assessed for glaucoma, characterising the relationship between CCT and RNFL in these eyes is clinically relevant.

Long-term survivors (LS) of non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) without driver alterations, displaying an overall survival (OS) of more than 3 years, comprise around 10% of cases in several series treated with chemotherapy. There are classical prognosis factors for these cases [stage, Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group (ECOG), etc.], but more data are required in the literature.
