Background: Antidepressants are the foundation of the treatment of major depressive disorders. Despite the scientific evidence, there is still a sustained debate and concern about the efficacy of antidepressants, with widely differing opinions among the population about their positive and negative effects, which may condition people's attitudes towards such treatments. Our aim is to investigate Twitter posts about antidepressants in order to have a better understanding of the social consideration of antidepressants.

Recent evidence confirms the risks of discontinuity of care when young people make a transition from child and adolescent mental health services (CAMHS) to adult mental health services (AMHS), although robust data are still sparse. We aimed to identify when and how patients get lost to care during transition by tracking care pathways and identifying factors which influence dropping out of care during transition. This is a retrospective observational study of 760 patients who reached the transition age boundary within 12 months before transition time and being treated at CAMHS for at least during preceding 18 months.

Bacteremia caused by : a case report.

Adv Lab Med

March 2022

Service of Microbiology, Príncipe de Asturias University Hospital, Alcalá de Henares, Madrid, Spain.

Article Synopsis
  • The case involves a 49-year-old man with ulcerative colitis who presented with fever and testicular issues, initially diagnosed with acute epididymitis.
  • The identification of a Gram-negative, spiral-shaped bacterium was made using a specialized MALDI-TOF Biotyper system, indicating it could not be grown using standard culture methods.
  • The treatment approach remains controversial, as the initial antibiotics might not effectively target the bacteremia linked to his underlying gastrointestinal condition and immunosuppression.

Pemphigus vulgaris (PV) is an anti-cadherin autoimmune disease, characterized by the production of anti-desmoglein 3 (and to a lesser extent anti-desmoglein 1) antibodies, producing acanthosis, typically suprabasal, which clinically translates into flaccid blisters and erosions, generally starting on mucous membranes, with subsequent appearance of skin lesions. Only about 25 cases of PV of exclusively cutaneous location have been described in the literature. Treatment with potent topical steroids is usually sufficient to control the symptoms.

Obsessive-compulsive symptoms in anxiety and depressive disorders: Influence of recent and/or traumatic life events.

Rev Psiquiatr Salud Ment (Engl Ed)

December 2021

Príncipe de Asturias University Hospital, Alcalá, Madrid, Spain; Faculty of Medicine, University of Alcalá, Madrid, Spain; Centre for Biomedical Research in Mental Health (CIBERSAM), Madrid, Spain. Electronic address:

Article Synopsis
  • A significant number of individuals (54%) with anxiety and depressive disorders experience obsessive-compulsive symptoms (OCSs), with many also having traumatic experiences (TEs) or recent life events (RLEs).
  • The study followed 200 participants over 8.5 months, revealing that OCSs are correlated with the severity of depressive symptoms and the number of TEs/RLEs.
  • Persistence of OCSs was found in 60.5% of patients at follow-up, indicating that early detection and resilience-focused therapies are crucial for improving outcomes in this population.

January 2022

Department of Ophthalmology, Príncipe de Asturias University Hospital, University of Alcalá, Av. Víctimas del Terrorismo N5, Pl 8, 1ºA, 28805, Alcalá de Henares, Madrid, Spain.

Article Synopsis
  • Higher preoperative myopic astigmatism (≥ 1.5 D) increases the likelihood of patients needing retreatment due to dissatisfaction with residual cylindrical errors, although retreatment is generally safe and effective.
  • In a study involving 841 eyes, the efficacy of the initial FS-LASIK treatment was slightly lower in patients with high myopic astigmatism compared to those with low myopic astigmatism, leading to a higher retreatment rate among the higher astigmatism group.
  • Post-retreatment outcomes showed minor differences in residual error and uncorrected visual acuity between the two groups, but overall safety and efficacy indices did not significantly differ, indicating that retreatment is still

To date, no study has compared the efficacy of two different social cognitive interventions.

To design a new subperiosteal implant structure for patients suffering from severe Maxillary Atrophy that lowers manufacturing cost, shortens surgical time and reduces patient trauma with regard to current implant structures. A 2-phase finite-element-based topology optimization process was employed with implants made from biocompatible materials via additive manufacturing. Five bite loading cases related to standard chewing, critical chewing force, and worst conditions of fastening were considered along with each specific result to establish the areas that needed to be subjected to fatigue strength optimization.

Purpose: Many surgical approaches have been described for achieving satisfactory functionality in patients with facial paralysis, to ensure the protection of the cornea and the highest degree of physiological blinking. Out of all those available, dynamic techniques are indicated when motion recovery and synchrony are the goals pursued. transposition (OOT) allows a genuine restoration of blinking by means of contralateral reinnervation, with minimal insult for the donor site.

Introduction: Spain was one of the most affected countries during the first wave of COVID-19, having the highest mortality rate in Europe. The aim of this retrospective study is to estimate the impact that remdesivir-the first drug for COVID-19 approved in the EU-would have had in the first wave.

Methods: This study simulated the impact that remdesivir could have had on the Spanish National Health System (SNHS) capacity (bed occupancy) and the number of deaths that could have been prevented, based on two scenarios: a real-life scenario (without remdesivir) and an alternative scenario (with remdesivir).
