In this work, the absorption and desorption isotherms of hydrogen on TiCrMnFeRE (RE = La, Ce, Ho) metals were collected at three temperatures under the same experimental conditions. This was carried out in order to determine the rare earth effect on the hydrogen storage performance of the TiCrMnFe metal. The equilibrium data showing the hydrogen absorbed/released amounts per unit of absorbent mass have provided useful details to describe the absorption/desorption processes.

A novel liquid crystal homologous series based on the benzene sulphonic acid moiety, namely ()-4-((4-((4-(alkoxy)benzoyl)oxy)benzylidene)amino)benzenesulfonic acid (Sn), was synthesized and examined different experimental and theoretical measurements. The four synthesized members have terminally connected alkoxy chain groups, which vary between 6 and 12 carbons. FT-IR and NMR spectroscopy, as well as elemental analyses, were used to confirm their molecular structures.

The neurobehavioral syndrome known as spatial neglect, which could be a result of a brain tumor, is common but difficult to diagnose and manage. This case study describes the evaluation of spatial neglect syndrome psychologically in detail and also builds an initial discussion of the role of the Arabic language, which requires a right-to-left-oriented spatial frame, to understand the severity of the symptoms. We report a case of spatial neglect syndrome after a brain tumor.

The paracetamol-induced injuries of liver and kidneys in animals are mostly used to screen out the hepato and nephroprotective effect of extract or other therapeutic agents. In the present study total phenolic and flavonoid contents, antioxidant, and hepato/nephroprotective (on paracetamol-induced intoxication in experimental rabbits) potentials of the leaves methanolic extract were determined. For the identification of possible phytochemicals, HPLC (high performance liquid chromatography) analysis was carried out and a total of eight phenolic compounds; malic acid, gallic acid, chlorogenic acid, epigallocatechin gallate, quercetin, morin, ellagic acid, and rutin were identified.

Diagnostic accuracy of reticulocyte parameters on the sysmex XN 1000 for discriminating iron deficiency anaemia and thalassaemia in Saudi Arabia.

Am J Blood Res

April 2021

Central Military Laboratory and Blood Bank, Prince Sultan Military Medical City Riyadh, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

Introduction: Iron deficient erythropoiesis and Thalassaemia are both associated with microcytic erythropoiesis albeit from different pathological mechanisms. Given the high prevalence of Hemoglobinopathies in the Mediterranean region, discriminating these two conditions is important. Several algorithms using conventional red cell indices have been developed to facilitate diagnosis, however, their diagnostic accuracy is low.

Development of photo detectors based on different semiconducting materials with high performance has been in progress in recent past, however, there is a lot of difficulties in developing the more effective photo detectors-based devices with high responsivity, detectivity and quantum efficiency. Hence, we have synthesized pure CuS and CuO@CuS core-shell heterostructure based photo detectors with high performance by simple and cost-effective two-step chemical co-precipitation method. The phase purity of CuS and CuO@CuS composite was observed by XRD analysis and the result were verified with Raman spectroscopy studies.

Background: Total knee replacement (TKR) is a major orthopedic surgery that is considered high risk for the development of venous thromboembolism (VTE).

Objective: The aim of this study is to evaluate the clinical outcomes that resulted from the use of a new proposed VTE risk stratification protocol for selecting a suitable extended VTE prophylaxis for post TKR surgery patients administered in conjunction with patient education programs.

Method: A randomized controlled trial was conducted in two medical centers in Saudi Arabia.

Two potential bioactive pyrimidine-5-carbonitrile derivatives have been synthesized and characterized by spectroscopic techniques (H and C-NMR) and the three dimensional structures were elucidated by single crystal X-ray diffraction at low temperature (160 K). In both structures, the molecular conformation is locked by an intramolecular C-H⋯C interaction involving the cyano and CH of the thiophene and phenyl rings. The intermolecular interactions were analyzed in a qualitative manner based on the Hirshfeld surface and 2D-fingerprint plots.

Background: Airway and swallowing evaluation is a crucial step before weaning the patient from a tracheostomy tube. Different evaluation procedures can be used successfully in many patients, but sometimes, this can be difficult or impossible for patients who have laryngeal edema as the existence of edema tends to block the view of true vocal folds. Thus, a new approach using retrograde fiberoptic endoscopy evaluation of swallowing (FEES) has been suggested to help visualize the vocal folds clearly.
