Self-assembled monolayers (SAMs) have significantly contributed to the advancement of hole transporting materials (HTMs) for inverted perovskite solar cells (PSCs). However, uneven distribution of SAMs on the substrate largely decreases the PSC performance, especially for large-scale devices. Herein, the first spiro-type SAM, termed 4PA-spiro, with an orthogonal spiro[acridine-9,9'-fluorene] as the skeleton and phosphonic acid as the anchoring group were proposed.

Given the critical role of carbonic anhydrase IX (CA IX) in various pathological conditions, there is a significant demand for new inhibitors to enhance patient outcomes and clinical management. In this study, we examined the inhibitory effectiveness of five coumarins derived from against CA IX using assays and computational modeling. Among the coumarins tested, xeroboside and isobaisseoside were identified as the most potent inhibitors.

Article Synopsis
  • Dual-targeting EGFR and HER2 is an effective method for treating solid tumors, leading researchers to develop new quinoline-based inhibitors.
  • The synthesized compounds were tested on multiple cancer cell lines, showing GI values from 25 to 82 nM, with compound 5a being the most effective against breast and lung cancer cells.
  • Compound 5a not only outperformed the EGFR inhibitor erlotinib but also demonstrated potential in promoting cell apoptosis by activating certain proteins while inhibiting others, along with docking studies that clarified its binding with EGFR.

Article Synopsis
  • The study looks at how being ignored at work (workplace ostracism) can lead nurses to put off their tasks (procrastination).
  • It also explores how not speaking up about problems (organizational silence) makes this situation worse.
  • The researchers found that when nurses feel ignored and stay silent about issues, they are more likely to delay their work and it affects their overall performance.

The opto-electronic properties and solar cell efficiency of halide perovskites ALiInBr (A = Rb, Cs) are investigated using density functional theory (DFT) through WEIN2k and SCAPS-1D. The electronic characteristic of ALiInBr (A = Rb, Cs) compounds reveal their direct bandgap semiconductor nature and are active in visible rang. The results indicate that substituting Cs with Rb causes a slight narrowing of the bandgap.

Because resistant variants of the disease are always emerging, tuberculosis is a global issue that affects economies. New antitubercular medications should be developed, and this can be done by inhibiting druggable targets. Enoyl acyl carrier protein (ACP) reductase (InhA) is a crucial enzyme for the survival of (MTB).

The current study focuses on developing a single molecule that acts as an antiproliferative agent with dual or multi-targeted action, reducing drug resistance and adverse effects. A new series of 4-pyrazolylquinolin-2-ones (5a-j) with apoptotic antiproliferative effects as dual EGFR/BRAF inhibitors were designed and synthesized. Compounds 5a-j were investigated for their cell viability effect against a normal cell line (MCF-10A).

An advanced form of magnesium-rich hydroxyapatite (Mg·HAP) was modified with two types of biopolymers, namely chitosan (CH/Mg·HAP) and β-cyclodextrin (CD/Mg·HAP), producing two types of bio-composites. The synthesized materials were developed as enhanced carriers for levofloxacin to control its loading, release, and anti-inflammatory properties. The polymeric modification significantly improved the loading efficiency to 281.

Two 1,3,4-oxadiazole-2-thione--Mannich derivatives, specifically 5-(4-chlorophenyl)-3-[(2-trifluoromethylphenylamino)methyl]-1,3,4-oxadiazole-2(3)-thione (1) and 5-(4-chlorophenyl)-3-[(2,5-difluorophenylamino)methyl]-1,3,4-oxadiazole-2(3)-thione (2), were synthesized and then characterized by elemental analysis and NMR (H and C) spectroscopy and the single crystal X-ray diffraction method. The formed weak intermolecular interactions in the solid-state structures of these derivatives were thoroughly investigated utilizing a variety of theoretical tools such as Hirshfeld surface analysis and quantum theory of atoms in molecules (QTAIM). Furthermore, the CLP-PIXEL and density functional theory calculations were used to study the energetics of molecular dimers.
