The aim of this study is to investigate the prognostic role of body mass index (BMI) on survival from head and neck cancer (HNC). We performed a pooled analysis of studies included in the International Head and Neck Cancer Epidemiology consortium. Background: Swallowing therapy is commonly provided as a treatment to lessen the risk or severity of dysphagia secondary to radiotherapy (RT) for head and neck cancer (HNC); however, best practice is not yet established. This trial will compare the effectiveness of prophylactic (high and low intensity) versus reactive interventions for swallowing in patients with HNC undergoing RT.

Methods: This multi-site, international randomized clinical trial (RCT) will include 952 adult patients receiving radiotherapy for HNC and who are at high risk for post-RT dysphagia.

Purpose: The risk of developing head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC) in patients with graft versus host disease (GVHD) after bone marrow transplant (BMT) is well established but large series reporting outcomes are sparse.

Methods: Retrospective, single institution, study of patients with GVHD and HNSCC after BMT, between January 1, 1968, and June 30, 2016.

Results: In total, 25 patients were studied, of which 21 (84%) were male and 4 (16%) were female.

We present a case of locally advanced pancreatic cancer with duodenal invasion treated with consolidative chemoradiation, where extensive unpredictable interfraction motion was observed. Initially, two attempts were made to treat with volumetric modulated arc therapy technique. However, due to substantial interfractional motion of the pancreatic head mass relative to the regional nodal areas, the patient was eventually replanned and treated with a four-field box technique.

Background: The purpose of this study was to determine the expression profile of several biomarkers in sestamibi-positive (n = 23) and sestamibi-negative (n = 6) parathyroid adenomas.

Methods: A tissue microarray of parathyroid adenomas from 29 patients was constructed and slides were stained for several proteins involved in angiogenesis, inflammation, cell adhesion, cell cycle, apoptosis, and with markers of the sonic hedgehog, mTOR, Forkhead box O and WNT signal transduction pathways. Protein expression was determined using an image-analysis software (Spectrum Plus©, 38 Aperio).

Interferons are cytokines that regulate the host's response to viral infection, particularly in the setting of the immunologic response to the hepatitis C virus (HCV). While the virus has the ability to evade the host's innate and specific immunity, exogenous interferon-α with combined ribavirin, treatments have been found to achieve a significant sustained viral response in subgroups of patients with chronic HCV. One of the major side effects of interferon-α is an ocular retinopathy characterized by flame-shaped hemorrhages and cotton wool spots visualized on funduscopic examination.

Continued consumption of alcohol after a cancer diagnosis is associated with poorer outcomes. We evaluated whether perceptions of the effects of continued alcohol use and receiving information on moderating alcohol reduced alcohol consumption in adult cancer survivors. A total of 509 cancer survivors were cross-sectionally surveyed at follow-up for their alcohol use before and after cancer diagnosis and perceptions of continued drinking.

Nephrotoxicity is a notable adverse effect in cisplatin treated patients characterized by tubular injury and/or increased serum creatinine (SCr) with incidence varying from 20 to 70%. Pharmacogenomics has been shown to identify strongly predictive genetic markers to help determine which patients are more likely to experience, for example, a serious adverse drug reaction or receive optimal benefit through enhanced efficacy. Genetic variations have been reported to influence the risk of cisplatin nephrotoxicity; however, a comprehensive overview is lacking.

The TransPORTEC consortium previouslclassified high-risk endometrial cancer including poor-risk histologies such as clear cells, into four molecular subtypes "POLE mutated," "microsatellite unstable," "TP53 mutated," and "no specific molecular profile." We evaluated whether DNA damage response biomarkers could further refine this high-risk tumors classification, in particular the heterogeneous "no specific molecular profile" and "TP53 mutated" subsets recently qualified as poor prognosis in high-risk endometrial cancer. Improved accuracy of quantitative parameter estimates in dynamic contrast-enhanced CT study with low temporal resolution.

Purpose: A previously proposed method to reduce radiation dose to patient in dynamic contrast-enhanced (DCE) CT is enhanced by principal component analysis (PCA) filtering which improves the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) of time-concentration curves in the DCE-CT study. The efficacy of the combined method to maintain the accuracy of kinetic parameter estimates at low temporal resolution is investigated with pixel-by-pixel kinetic analysis of DCE-CT data.

Methods: The method is based on DCE-CT scanning performed with low temporal resolution to reduce the radiation dose to the patient.

Studies in early-stage, predominantly low- and intermediate-risk endometrial cancer have demonstrated that L1 cell adhesion molecule (L1CAM) overexpression identifies patients at increased risk of recurrence, yet its prognostic significance in high-risk endometrial cancer is unclear. To evaluate this, its frequency, and the relationship of L1CAM with the established endometrial cancer biomarker p53, we analyzed the expression of both markers by immunohistochemistry in a pilot series of 116 endometrial cancers (86 endometrioid, 30 non-endometrioid subtype) with high-risk features (such as high tumor grade and deep myometrial invasion) and correlated results with clinical outcome.
