Extension Clinical Research Unit, Central Council for Research in Homoeopathy, Ministry of AYUSH, Govt. of India, Princess Durru Shehvar Children's & General Hospital, Hyderabad, Telangana, 500002, India.

Hypertriglyceridemia is an independent risk factor of coronary heart disease (as established through various previously conducted studies) and it's rising incidence is creating a need for the immediate attention of it's management. Instead of focusing on the controversies involving the toxicity caused due to the long-term use of statin therapy in conventional mode of treatment, opting for a safer alternative system of treatment seems important. Five cases of diagnosed HTG, with triglyceride levels above 200 were treated with homoeopathic medicine - Fucus vesiculosus, in mother tincture form.

Article Synopsis
  • Nasal continuous positive airway pressure (NCPAP) is being studied as a treatment for meconium aspiration syndrome (MAS) in newborns, potentially improving oxygen exchange and reducing lung complications.
  • The study aimed to compare the effectiveness of NCPAP against standard care in reducing the need for invasive ventilation in neonates with MAS-related respiratory failure.
  • Results showed that infants treated with NCPAP had a significantly lower need for mechanical ventilation within the first week of life compared to those receiving standard care, along with a lower requirement for surfactant treatment.

We present a case of hair dye poisoning that presented with respiratory distress due to laryngeal edema and later developed trismus, subclinical tetany, apnea, and conduction abnormality on electrocardiogram. This case report highlights the need for a thorough toxicological review of the components of any ingested substance.

Acute kidney injury (AKI), a recognized complication of cardiac surgery with cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB) is associated with increased morbidity and mortality (15-30%) with approximately 1% of all the affected patients requiring dialysis. Early detection of AKI would enable intervention before occurrence of irreversible injury and might minimize the morbidity and mortality. Recently developed biomarkers of AKI facilitate its earlier discovery and help assessment of its severity and prognosis.
