Prostate cancer (PCa) has high prevalence rates in men and is a leading cause of cancer-related death. Transrectal (TR) biopsy has traditionally been the gold standard for diagnosis, but transperineal (TP) biopsy is increasingly favoured due to its lower infection risk. However, debate remains regarding which method has superior cancer detection rates.

The British Geriatrics Society's position on assisted dying.

In response to increased focus on the issue of Assisted Dying (AD) in the UK due to the presentation of The Terminally Ill Adults (End of Life) Bill 2024-25 [1] and bills before parliaments in the Isle of Man, Guernsey and Scotland, the British Geriatric Society (BGS) recently developed a position statement opposing legalisation of AD in the UK [2]. We set out our key reasoning behind this position, namely the current adverse health and social care context and significant concern about whether effective safeguards can be created to protect older people with complex needs from undue harms. The BGS asks for improved, personalised, multidisciplinary care for older people at the end of their lives, including high-quality palliative and end-of-life care.

Malignant pleural effusion (MPE) is common in individuals with cancer and typically reflects advanced disease. Most cases are symptomatic, with dyspnea and pain having a severe effect on the patient's quality of life (QOL). The management of MPE aims to relieve symptoms, improve QOL, prevent repeated pleural interventions, and minimize hospital admissions.

The Operative Treatment of Sternoclavicular Joint Dislocations in Adults: A Systematic Review.

This systematic review aimed to assess the literature on the treatment modalities used for acute sternoclavicular joint (SCJ) dislocation injuries. We aimed to review the clinical outcomes following these modalities by assessing functional scores, range of motion (ROM), patient satisfaction, complications, and revisions. A thorough literature search was conducted on four databases (Cochrane Library, Embase, MEDLINE, and Google Scholar) for studies published from January 2000 to May 2024 that focused on surgical treatment of sternoclavicular joint dislocation in patients over the age of 18 years.

Minimally Invasive Tube Surgery (MITS)-A Novel Method in Glaucoma Drainage Device Implantation.

: We introduce a new surgical technique for inserting the eyePlate-300-a glaucoma drainage device (GDD). The flexibility of the eyePlate-300 allows for folding and insertion through a smaller conjunctival incision. The procedure is termed minimally invasive tube surgery (MITS).

Research training during radiology residency: findings from the ESR Radiology Trainee Forum survey.

Objectives: To elucidate the research training exposure of radiology residents across ESR country members.

Methods: A 30-question survey was constructed by the Radiology Trainee Forum and was distributed among residents and subspecialty fellows of countries members of the ESR. The survey examined the training environment, the status of research training and publications among trainees, the conditions under which research was conducted, and the exposure to activities such as grant proposal preparation and manuscript reviewing.

Introduction: The horizontal beam lateral (HBL) position technique for X-ray imaging has been used for nearly a century; however, this can be challenging for the patient and the practitioner, as it potentially compromises patient dignity. Methods: Patients who underwent vitrectomy for proliferative dia-betic retinopathy complications were preoperatively given in-travitreal injection with either bevacizumab and tissue plasminogen activator (Group 1) or bevacizumab alone (Group 2). Teaching, assessment and best practice in undergraduate psychiatry education in the UK: cross-sectional survey.

Aims And Method: We conducted a cross-sectional survey to examine how undergraduate psychiatry is taught and assessed across medical schools in the UK that have at least one cohort of graduated students.

Results: In total, 27 medical schools completed the survey. Curriculum coverage of common mental disorders, assessment skills and mental health law was broadly consistent, although exposure to psychiatric subspecialties varied.

Maung argues that an externalist understanding of mental disorder exposes how, if society was more just for the most deprived, patterns of access to assisted dying might be different. I counter that reducing inequality lacks relevance to the immediate permissibility of assisted dying for mental disorder, owing to the need for solutions for those in distress. I suggest that the question of assistance in death for mental disorders is one of pragmatic politics, not for obfuscatory philosophy.

Study Design: Fingerstick whole blood and venous plasma from each participant were tested with Panbio™ and compared against the SARS-CoV-2 IgG II assay on the Abbott Architect™ platform (Europe) or the equivalent AdviseDx SARS-CoV-2 IgG II Abbott Alinity i™ platform (US).

This systematic review aims to assess the contemporary literature on the incidence rate, functional scores, and clinical outcomes of heterotopic ossification (HO) following shoulder arthroplasty. We conducted a thorough literature search on EMBASE, MEDLINE, and Ortho Search to identify studies that directly compared patients with and without HO following hemiarthroplasty, anatomic total shoulder arthroplasty (aTSA), or reverse total shoulder arthroplasty (rTSA). We included studies with a minimum follow-up period of one year published from January 2000 to March 2023.

Purpose: Developmental dysplasia of the hip (DDH) joint is a complex condition that may lead to severe problems. Ultrasound scan (USS) in the first four-to-six weeks of life is considered the gold-standard for diagnosis while the Pavlik harness (PH) is a widely utilized method as first-line treatment. Introduction: This systematic review and meta-analysis compared the revision rates, complications, and outcomes in anatomic total shoulder arthroplasty (aTSA) and reverse TSA (rTSA) performed for primary glenohumeral osteoarthritis in patients aged over 70 years without a full-thickness rotator cuff tear.

Materials And Methods: We performed a systematic literature search identifying comparative studies meeting the above patient criteria and published from January 2010 to May 2022 from 3 databases: MEDLINE, EMBASE, and Cochrane Library. We performed the systematic review in accordance with PRISMA guidelines and the study was prospectively registered on PROSPERO.
