Nephronophthisis (NPHP) is a group of rare inherited ciliopathy disorders characterized by the multicystic dysplastic kidney, oligohydramnios, and tubulointerstitial nephritis that progresses to end-stage renal disease (ESRD). NPHP is a clinically and genetically heterogeneous disorder with extrarenal symptoms including skeletal deformities, nervous system anomalies, and ophthalmologic features. Three clinical subtypes, infantile, juvenile, and adolescent, have been recognized based on age of onset of ESRD.

Several studies have reported that pregnant women are more susceptible to contracting the SARS-CoV-2 disease. However, SARS-CoV-2 infection studies have limited evidence regarding its impact on pregnancy, particularly its pathological effects on the maternal-fetal interface. This review emphasized the placental structures and immunomodulatory defense mechanism against the viral infection COVID and highlighted the spectrum of reported histopathological changes from SARS-CoV-2-infected mothers' placenta to contribute to the knowledge of the nature of this placental pathology.

Objectives: To compare periodontal findings in systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) patients and healthy controls, and to determine, whether there is a correlation between periodontal parameters and SLE biomarkers.
Methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted in the Faculty of Dentistry, King Abdulaziz University, Jeddah, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia between November 2012 and February 2014. Twenty-five participants diagnosed with SLE and 50 healthy controls were selected.
