Association between Body Mass Index and Risk of Gastric Cancer by Anatomic and Histologic Subtypes in Over 500,000 East and Southeast Asian Cohort Participants.

Background: This study was performed to investigate the association between body mass index (BMI) and gastric cancer in East and Southeast Asia where most of gastric cancer is non-cardia gastric cancer.

Methods: On the basis of 8,997 gastric cancer cases among the Asia Cohort Consortium participants from China, Japan, Korea, and Singapore (N = 538,835), we assessed gastric cancer risk according to BMI by calculating hazard ratios (HR) and 95% confidence intervals (CI) using the Cox proportional hazard regression model.

Results: A U-shaped associations between BMI and gastric cancer risk were observed.

Background: Sepsis is a heterogeneous syndrome, and the identification of clinical subphenotypes is essential. Although organ dysfunction is a defining element of sepsis, subphenotypes of differential trajectory are not well studied. We sought to identify distinct Sequential Organ Failure Assessment (SOFA) score trajectory-based subphenotypes in sepsis.

Background: To describe for the first time a patient with ankylosing spondylitis (AS) successfully treated with cycling, and marked improvement of his physical performance after nutraceuticals.

Therefore, in this study, we will compare the efficacy and safety of rapid intermittent bolus (RIB) and slow continuous infusion (SCI) of electrolyte-free solution in hypernatremia treatment.

The Administration of Hyaluronic Acid into the Temporomandibular Joints' Cavities Increases the Mandible's Mobility: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis.

Objectives: The purpose of this systematic review with meta-analysis is to identify clinical studies concerning the impact of intra-articular administration of hyaluronic acid (HA) on mandibular mobility and to make an attempt at determining the efficacy of HA in this indication.

Methods: The review included primary studies involving groups of at least 10 patients who were diagnosed with pain in the temporomandibular joint and who were injected with hyaluronic acid as the only intervention. The outcomes pursued were changes in mandibular mobility and pain intensity.

Association Between Subjective-Objective Discrepancy of Sleeping Time and Health-Related Quality of Life: A Community-Based Polysomnographic Study.

Objective: This study aimed to investigate the existence of a difference in quality of life (QOL) between individuals with and without significant subjective-objective discrepancy (SOD) in total sleep time (TST).

Methods: From the Sleep Heart Health Study 2, 2540 individuals who had completed polysomnography, a morning sleep survey, and the 36-item Short-Form Health Survey (SF-36) were included in the analyses. The participants were classified as normoestimators (estimation of TST <±60 minutes), underestimators (underestimation of TST ≥60 minutes), or overestimators (overestimation of TST ≥60 minutes).

Therefore, in this research, the authors wanted to assess PMMA modified with the nano-ZrO additive in terms of changes in flexural, impact and tensile strength values in relation to PMMA without such component. A systematic review and meta-analysis were performed to evaluate the effect of incorporating nano-ZrO into PMMA on individual types of material strength.

We therefore aimed to estimate the effect of depression on all-cause mortality, to examine potential explanatory factors and to assess effect modification by gender.

Methods: We used Cox regression models to estimate the effect of depression on mortality based on data from the Gutenberg Health Study, which is a prospective cohort study of the adult population in the districts of Mainz and Mainz-Bingen, Germany.

Status of cervical cancer screening among adolescents and young adults (AYA) in Japan.

Cervical cancer ranks high among the cancers that affect people in their 20s and 30s. Cervical cancer is characterized by the presence of precancerous lesions, which can be detected by cancer screenings; some precancerous lesions are amenable to treatment, which can halt the progression to invasive cancer. We examined the association of coffee drinking with all-cause and cause-specific mortality in a pooled analysis of two Korean prospective cohort studies: The Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey and the Korean Genome and Epidemiology Study. We included 192,222 participants, and a total of 6057 deaths were documented. Cox proportional hazards model was used to estimate the hazard ratios (HRs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs), and the HRs were combined using a random-effects model.

Background: Gaucher disease (GD) is a rare lysosomal storage disorder classically subdivided into type 1 (non-neuronopathic) GD, and types 2 and 3 (neuronopathic) GD. It is typically characterized by clinical manifestations including anemia, thrombocytopenia, hepatosplenomegaly, bone lesions, and (in more severe forms) neurological impairment. This paper presents a first quantitative analysis of language in media reports of neonaticide and a comparative examination of language use within the reports. One thousand twenty-seven Austrian print media reports from 2004 to 2014 were retrieved; after exclusion, 331 were analysed using the Linguistic Inquiry and Word Count (LIWC) software. After a preliminary analysis, a comparative analysis was carried out between reports on the Graz case and all other cases.

Variants and Modifications of the Retroauricular Approach Using in Temporomandibular Joint Surgery: A Systematic Review.

Introduction: The retroauricular approach (RA) has been developed in order to expose the temporomandibular joint in a way that minimizes the risk of injury to the facial nerve and masks the postoperative scar. One of its characteristics is an excellent posterolateral view of the mandibular head, which allows for the preservation of the lateral temporomandibular joint ligaments in the course of open intracapsular surgery.
