Article Synopsis
  • An innovative toothbrush was created with a rotatable shank and a flexible design to improve access to all surfaces of the mouth, aimed at reducing plaque and improving gingival health.
  • A randomized controlled trial compared this rotatable shank toothbrush with traditional flexible and straight handle toothbrushes to see which was more effective for plaque control and gingival health outcomes.
  • Results showed that the rotatable shank toothbrush provided better improvements in plaque removal and gingival health compared to the other types of toothbrushes used in the study.

Article Synopsis
  • Researchers studied strokes from 1990 to 2021 to understand how many people get them and how they are affected around the world.
  • In 2021, strokes caused about 7.3 million deaths and were a major cause of health problems, especially in specific regions like Southeast Asia and Oceania.
  • There are differences in stroke risks based on where people live and their age, and some areas actually saw more strokes happening since 2015.

Background In the contemporary era, where science and technology know no boundaries, this in vivo study explores the impact of growth modulation therapy using Twin Block, Forsus Fatigue Resistant, and Clear Block appliances on alkaline phosphatase (ALP) levels in gingival crevicular fluid (GCF). Bone physiology involves modeling and remodeling, with orthodontics applying forces to teeth, influencing tissue reactivity and bone modeling. ALP, a marker of osteoblast function, plays a crucial role in bone growth.

Introduction: Root canal success requires working length (WL) optimization. The current study examined how different apex locators on vital and non-vital teeth responded to instrument size.

Materials And Methods: Three hundred patients (180 men and 120 women) receiving root canal therapy at the department of Conservative Dentistry and Endodontics were evaluated.

Alzheimer's disease (AD) is a type of neurodegenerative disease, associated with the hastening of ROS, acetylcholinesterase (AChE) activity, and amyloid β peptides plaques in the brain. The limitations and side effects of existing synthetic drugs incline toward natural sources. In the present communication active principles of methanolic extract of Roxb, leaves are explored as an antioxidant, AChE inhibitor, and anti-amyloidogenic.

Background In modern dentistry, fixed dental prostheses are often the preferred and the most complex treatment procedures. However, the success of these procedures depends to a great extent on the durability and consistency of the ongoing reconstruction. This paper aimed to compare the shear bond characteristics of conventional glass ionomer cement types, namely, Vivaglass luting cement and GC fuji 1 cement, after being subjected to two different dentin-cleaning techniques: the tungsten carbide bur and the prophy jet.

Gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) is recognized as a "window of opportunity" for the future prediction of such complications as type 2 diabetes mellitus and pelvic floor muscle disorders, including urinary incontinence and genitourinary dysfunction. Translational studies have reported that pelvic floor muscle disorders are due to a GDM-induced-myopathy (GDiM) of the pelvic floor muscle and rectus abdominis muscle (RAM). We now describe the transcriptome profiling of the RAM obtained by Cesarean section from GDM and non-GDM women with and without pregnancy-specific urinary incontinence (PSUI).

Agricultural residues are suitable to make useful products that can potentially replace the non-biodegradable polymeric materials. In the present work, corn cob and rice S=straw is quantitatively transformed to cellulose by alkali treatment preceded by bleaching. The obtained cellulose is changed into nanocellulose (NC) by the acid hydrolysis method followed by ultrasonication.

Background: Ex-vivo myography enables the assessment of muscle electrical activity response. This study explored the viability of determining the physiological responses in muscles without tendon, as rectus abdominis muscle (RAM), through ex-vivo myography to assess its potential as a diagnostic tool.

Results: All tested RAM samples (five different samples) show patterns of electrical activity.

Reversal of diabetic-induced myopathy by swimming exercise in pregnant rats: a translational intervention study.

Sci Rep

May 2022

Postgraduate Program on Tocogynecology, Department of Gynecology and Obstetrics, Botucatu Medical School, São Paulo State University (UNESP), Botucatu, São Paulo, Brazil.

Gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) plus rectus abdominis muscle (RAM) myopathy predicts long-term urinary incontinence (UI). Atrophic and stiff RAM are characteristics of diabetes-induced myopathy (DiM) in pregnant rats. This study aimed to determine whether swimming exercise (SE) has a therapeutic effect in mild hyperglycemic pregnant rats model.

Aim: This study aimed to assess, for the first time, the dynamic morphometry of pelvic floor muscles (PFM) using three-dimensional transperineal ultrasound (3D-TPUS) and its progression at two-time points of gestation between women with and without gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM), and whether the PFM dysfunction is connected to GDM.

Methods: The study comprised 83 consecutive pregnant women with (n = 38) and without (n = 45) GDM screened at 24-30 and 38-40 weeks of gestation. 3D-TPUS and a mobility test were used to quantify PFM dynamic morphometry during maximum contraction and the Valsalva maneuver.
