Impact of establishment of a color code in emergency caesareans in secondary health care maternity.

In 2008, a tertiary health care maternity set up a colour code organization for emergency caesarean to reduce the delay between decision and birth to thirty minutes. The aim of this study is to determine the feasibility of the implementation in secondary health care maternity. MATERIALS AND METHODS: This retrospective study was conducted in secondary health care maternity and it was divided in two phases: phase I corresponding to the period before the implementation of colour code and phase II, to the period after the implementation of colour code.

Breast implant surface texture impacts host tissue response.

Background: Surface texture of a breast implant influences tissue response and ultimately device performance. Characterizing differences among available surface textures is important for predicting and optimizing performance.

Methods: Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and X-ray computed tomography (CT)-imaging were used to characterize the topography and surface area of 12 unique breast implant surface textures from seven different manufacturers.

Imaging mass spectrometry assists in the classification of diagnostically challenging atypical Spitzoid neoplasms.

Background: Previously, using imaging mass spectrometry (IMS), we discovered proteomic differences between Spitz nevi and Spitzoid melanomas.

Objective: We sought to determine whether IMS can assist in the classification of diagnostically challenging atypical Spitzoid neoplasms (ASN), to compare and correlate the IMS and histopathological diagnoses with clinical behavior.

Methods: We conducted a retrospective collaborative study involving centers from 11 countries and 11 US institutions analyzing 102 ASNs by IMS.

[GNE myopathy].

GNE myopathy is a rare neuromuscular disease whose description is fairly recent. It predominantly affects the adult population and is an inherited autosomal recessive disorder. Although universal and ubiquitous, GNE myopathy prevails in the Jewish community of Persian origin, living in Iran, Israel or in the United States.

IC3D classification of corneal dystrophies--edition 2.

Purpose: To update the 2008 International Classification of Corneal Dystrophies (IC3D) incorporating new clinical, histopathologic, and genetic information.

Methods: The IC3D reviewed worldwide peer-reviewed articles for new information on corneal dystrophies published between 2008 and 2014. Using this information, corneal dystrophy templates and anatomic classification were updated.

Current Concepts in the Clinical Utility of Platelet Reactivity Testing.

The pharmacodynamic effect of clopidogrel varies among individuals; approximately a third will have high on-treatment platelet reactivity (HTPR) to adenosine diphosphate and may benefit from more intensive antiplatelet therapy. Platelet reactivity testing has an important role in monitoring the therapeutic efficiency of clopidogrel and the safety of more potent drugs that confer an increased bleeding risk, because it provides a direct measure of the biological effect of these drugs. Numerous studies have demonstrated an association between HTPR and the risk of cardiac events in acute coronary syndrome (ACS) or after percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI).

Socially valorised, sport like other forms of behaviour, can take on an addictive aspect. A review of the English and French literatures from 1979 to 2012 was conducted, using PubMed, Google Scholar, EMBASE, and PsycInfo, using the following key words alone or combined :sport, dependence, exercise, addiction. Exercise dependence is defined as a craving for physical activity that leads to extreme exercise intensity and generates physiological and psychological symptoms.

Tanning is socially highly valued and, like other forms of behaviour, can take on an addictive aspect. This finding is based on the observations of many dermatologists who report an addictive relationship with tanning cabins in their patients, despite the announcement of the diagnosis of malignant melanoma. This article attempts to synthesize the existing literature on excessive indoor tanning and addiction to investigate possible associations.

[Blood cardioplegia: advantages and disadvantages].

Blood cardioplegia is worldwilde used during cardiac surgery. It provides a safe myocardial protection during this surgery. All along the year blood cardioplegia has been improved but it's of importance to apply it correctly.

[Morphine prescription and the nursing role].

After having noted that 25% of prescriptions were not respected by nurses, the Henri-Mondor university hospital in Creteil (AP-HP, 94), carried out an investigation to understand the causes. The results were then circulated to doctors and nurses in order to establish best practice recommendations.
