Libman-Sacks endocarditis is a rare cardiac manifestation of anti-phospholipid syndromes, in which non-infectious thrombotic vegetations are found on the heart valves. Most patients are asymptomatic whereas the risk of thromboembolism is considerable. Diagnostic work-up is based on questioning and clinical examination data looking for extracardiac signs, biological data and also on imaging, and, above all, echocardiography.

In prion diseases (PrDs), aggregates of misfolded prion protein (PrPSc) accumulate not only in the brain but also in extraneural organs. This raises the question whether prion-specific pathologies arise also extraneurally. Here we sequenced mRNA transcripts in skeletal muscle, spleen and blood of prion-inoculated mice at eight timepoints during disease progression.

Malaria, a parasitic disease the pathogen of which was discovered by Alphonse Laveran in 1880 in the blood of febrile patients, remains in 2022 the most frequent endemic disease in tropical and subtropical countries. In its latest "World Malaria Report" available in November 2021, the WHO deals in great detail with the data collected in the field in 2019-2020, their progression over the last 20 years, and the measures to be taken to try to better control this life-threatening endemic. The number of malaria cases is estimated at 232 million in 2019 in 87 endemic countries, down from 245 million in 2000.

Introduction: The number of elderly patients admitted to emergency departments (EDs) continues to rise each year. However, due to time and structural constraints, these facilities do not allow for optimal identification of patients at risk of rehospitalization and loss of independence.
Objective: To identify the characteristics of patients over the age of 75 discharged from the ED without indications for hospitalization, and to illustrate the importance of advanced practice nurses (APN) in identifying predictive factors of loss of independence.

IDENTIFYING AND TREATING ALCOHOL USE DISORDERS IN THE ELDERLY Aging does not prevent the occurrence of alcohol use disorders, the frequency of which declines little with age. And advancing age increases the risks and effects of alcohol consumption (even seemingly modest) or the damages caused by alcohol use disorders. Polypathology, which is more frequent with age and a source of polymedication for the elderly, further increases the risks and damages incurred, as does the concomitant use of other psychoactive substances.

Infant feeding, how to choose an infant milk? The infant's nutrition is of particular concern, not only to assume a good nutritional status, an adequate growth and development, but also, to some extent, for his future health. Breast feeding remains the best choice but needs to be counseled in practice and in order to avoid deficiencies as well as chemical or in¬fectious contaminations. As a substitute to breast milk, none non modified mammalian milk fits the infant's nutritional needs.
