Clinical phenotypic spectrum of CTNNB1 neurodevelopmental disorder.

Pathogenic heterozygous loss of function variants in CTNNB1 are associated with CTNNB1 neurodevelopmental disorder. We report the clinical phenotype of individuals with CTNNB1 neurodevelopmental disorder using both caregiver-reported data (medical history, adaptive function, quality of life, and behavior issues) and in-person clinical assessments (neurological, motor, and cognitive function) in 32 individuals with likely pathogenic or pathogenic CTNNB1 variants. Most individuals had truncal hypotonia, muscle weakness, hypertonia, dystonia, microcephaly, and many had a history of tethered cord.

All hip fracture data among patients aged 50 yr or older were collected from hospitals in Chiang Mai, Thailand from August 1, 2006 to July 3, 2007.

Effects of combined UDP-glucuronosyltransferase (UGT) 1A1*28 and 1A6*2 on paracetamol pharmacokinetics in beta-thalassemia/HbE.

In addition to pathophysiological changes, genetic variations can alter drug pharmacokinetics in patients with thalassemia. Numerous drugs are metabolized by UDP-glucuronosyltransferases (UGT) including paracetamol (PCM), a widely used analgesic. Co-occurrence of the UGT1A1 polymorphism (UGT1A1*28) and the UGT1A6 polymorphism (UGT1A6*2) may affect PCM glucuronidation.

Proteomic Studies of Galectin-3 Expression in Human Thyroid Diseases by Immunodetection.

Galectin-3 expression in thyroid diseases was studied by 1-DE immunoblotting. Expression was markedly elevated in thyroid papillary carcinoma, compared to follicular adenoma, follicular carcinoma or non-neoplastic diseases. Galectin-3 expression was also elevated in malignant cancers of bone, breast, colon, esophagus, larynx, lung and ovary.

Chlamydophila (Chlamydia) pneumoniae infection is increasingly reported worldwide nowadays. We studied twelve Thai adults presenting with the clinical symptoms and signs of community-acquired pneumonia (CAP) due to C. pneumoniae (TWAR) at Pramongkutklao Hospital in Bangkok, Thailand.

Comparison of in vitro assay for specific IgE and skin prick test with intradermal test in patients with allergic rhinitis.

Among many diagnostic tests for allergic rhinitis, the intradermal (ID) test is practical and reliable. However, there are several factors affecting compliance, practicability and interpretation, and also problems on hypersensitivity of the ID. For these reasons, we evaluated other tests which have been thought to have high reliability as diagnostic and/or screening assays, namely, skin prick test and specific IgE detection in seventy-four perennial rhinitis patients (51 males and 23 females whose ages were between 15-60 years).

Comparative analysis of serological and molecular results for HLA-DR typing in 120 Thai subjects.

In this study, serological HLA-DR typing results were compared to typing results obtained with sequence-specific primers in the polymerase chain reaction (PCR-SSP). HLA-DR typing was performed on 120 random Thai individuals. Differences in HLA-DR typing results were found in 18 out of 120, which were due to cross reactive antibodies and the lack of potent antisera to define proper HLA-DR splits by serology.

HLA class I antibodies in thalassemic patients.

This study was undertaken to demonstrate the prevalence of HLA class I antibodies among 62 polytransfused patients. The diagnosis included beta-thalassemia major, beta-thalassemia/Hb E disease and severe Hb H disease. Their ages ranged from 1 year to 23 years with the mean age of 10.

HLA class II polymorphism in Thai patients with non-Hodgkin's lymphoma.

The distribution of HLA-DRB1 alleles and DQB1 alleles in 100 Thai patients with non-Hodgkin's lymphoma (NHL) was analysed using the polymerase chain reaction with sequence-specific primer (PCR-SSP) method, and the association between the disease and the presence of certain HLA class II alleles was investigated. The frequencies of HLA-DRB1*1502 and DRB1*09012 were increased while those of DRB1*0404, DRB1*0803 and DRB1*1106 were decreased. On the other hand, the incidence of HLA-DQB1 alleles was similar to that in the normal population.

Role of allergy in nasal polyps of Thai patients.

As distinct from many countries, allergy in Thailand is of the perennial type which may play a role in the formation of nasal polyps. Forty consecutive patients with nasal polyps and 30 normal subjects as control were studied at the Allergy Clinic, Department of Otolaryngology, Pramongkutklao Hospital. A positive clinical history and skin allergy testing are diagnostic criteria for allergy.

Aeroallergen sensitivity of Thai patients with allergic rhinitis.

The aim of this study was to determine the aeroallergen sensitivity of allergic rhinitis patients. A total of 100 cases (female: 59, male: 41, aged between 10-59 years, mean age 27.9 years) who were diagnosed with allergic rhinitis by history and clinical presentation, underwent a prick skin test with 30 aeroallergens, and the important sensitizing allergens were assessed.

A preliminary study of HLA class II alleles in Thai patients with non Hodgkin's lymphoma.

A comparative study of three techniques for eluting red cell antibodies.

Sixty-seven eluates obtained from the heat, ether and acid elution techniques were tested with the specific red blood cells (RBCs) and were compared according to their reactivities using the indirect antiglobulin test (IAT). It was found that the ether elution technique was superior in eluting Rh antibodies except for anti-e while the acid elution technique was superior in eluting Miltenberger (Mi(a)) antibodies (P < 0.05).

Taxanes in ovarian cancer treatment.

Paclitaxel and docetaxel are active in the treatment of patients with advanced ovarian cancer. The taxanes in various dose schedules achieve response rates of 10-50% with a median overall survival of 10-12 months in patients with platinum-refractory disease. Paclitaxel has activity in chemotherapy-naive patients when administered alone or in combination with platinum.

Comparison between the conventional tube technique and the gel technique in direct antiglobulin tests.

Objectives: The direct antiglobulin test (DAT) is a diagnostic procedure demonstrating in-vivo antibody or complement coating on red cells. The gel technique (GT) for this test is sensitive and easier to do than the conventional tube technique (CTT).

Methods: We tested 52 newborns with hyperbilirubinemia and 6 children and 17 adults with autoimmune hemolytic anemia (AIHA) using the (DAT) in the form of the conventional tube technique (CTT) and the gel technique (GT) simultaneously.

A preliminary study of nasal mucociliary clearance in smokers, sinusitis and allergic rhinitis patients.

Mucocillary clearance of nasal mucosa was evaluated with the saccharin test. A total of 140 subjects was divided into 4 groups: smokers, allergic rhinitis patients, sinusitis patients, and a normal control group. The mean mucociliary transit time for the normal control group (n = 40) was 12 minutes, while allergic rhinitis patients (n = 40) had a mean of 14.

Prenatal diagnosis of Hb Bart's hydrops fetalis by PCR technique: Pramongkutklao experience.

Hb Bart's hydrops fetalis is very common in Southeast Asia, especially in Thailand.
