A locus-dependent mixed inheritance in the segmental allohexaploid sweetpotato ( [L.] Lam).

Two interrelated aspects of the sweetpotato genome, its polyploid origin and inheritance type, remain uncertain. We recently proposed a segmental allohexaploid sweetpotato and thus sought to clarify its inheritance type by direct analyses of homoeolog segregations at selected single-copy loci. For such analyses, we developed a digital quantitative PCR genotyping method using one nondiscriminatory and three discriminatory probes for each selected locus to discriminate and quantify three homoeolog-differentiating variation types (homoeolog-types) in genomic DNA samples for genotype fitting and constructed a F2 population for segregation analyses.

Developing multifunctional nanomaterials through environmentally friendly and efficient approaches is a pivotal focus in nanotechnology. This study aimed to employ a biogenic method to synthesize multifunctional copper oxide nanoparticles (LI-CuO NPs) with diverse capabilities, including antibacterial, antioxidant, and seed priming properties, as well as photocatalytic organic dye degradation and wastewater treatment potentials using leaf extract. Similarly to other European mountain areas, in Serra da Estrela the grazing pressure has been reducing due to social and economic drivers that have pushed shepherds and sheep to the foothill, or plainly out of the sector. Shrub encroachment on commons and other previously grazed land is one of the most tangible effects of pastoral abandonment in Serra de Estrela. The impacts of the resulting increase in landscape continuity and biomass availability were made clear in the severe fires of 2017 and 2022.

As a space project, in "Stem Cells" by the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA), frozen mouse ES cells were stored on the International Space Station (ISS) in the Minus Eighty Degree Laboratory Freezer for ISS (MELFI) for 1584 days. After taking these cells back to the ground, the cells were thawed and cultured, and their gene expressions were comprehensively analyzed using RNA sequencing in order to elucidate the early response of the cells to long-time exposure to space radiation consisting of various ionized particles. The comparisons of gene expression involved in double-stranded break (DSB) repair were examined.

Low-salt diet (LSD) is a constant recommendation to hypertensive patients, but the genomic mechanisms through which it improves cardiac pathophysiology are still not fully understood. Our publicly accessible transcriptomic dataset of the left ventricle myocardium of adult male mice subjected to prolonged LSD or normal diet was analyzed from the perspective of the Genomic Fabric Paradigm. We found that LSD shifted the metabolic priorities by increasing the transcription control for fatty acids biosynthesis while decreasing it for steroid hormone biosynthesis.

In the current study, we aimed to assess the expression levels of two circulating microRNAs (miRNA) (oar-miR-485-5p and oar-miR-493-5p) in the ovine plasma during the peri-implantation. After mating, we collected the plasma samples from a total of 8 ewes on day 22 of pregnancy (P22; n = 4) and day 22 of the estrous cycle (C22; n=4). We used mature miRNA sequences for oar-miR-485-5p and oar-miR-493-5p out of one hundred fifty, which were retrieved from our microarray results of previous study.

The cacao swollen shoot virus disease (CSSVD) is among the most economically damaging diseases of cacao trees and accounts for almost 15-50% of harvest losses in Ghana. This virus is transmitted by several species of mealybugs (Pseudococcidae, Homoptera) when they feed on cacao plants. One of the mitigation strategies for CSSVD investigated at the Cocoa Research Institute of Ghana (CRIG) is the use of mild-strain cross-protection of cacao trees against the effects of severe strains.
