The present study aimed to test the hypothesis that the total word length on the Memory subtest of the Czech version of the MoCA, which is 12 syllables compared to the English version of 7 syllables, would have a significant effect on Delayed Recall scores compared to the newly created well-balanced version of the test (further MoCA-WLE). In the original Czech version of MoCA, we replaced the 12-syllable word list in the Memory subtest with a 7-syllable list (MoCA-WLE) to make it equivalent to the standard English version in this respect. We analyzed data from 83 participants in the original MoCA group (70.

Background: Parkinson's disease (PD), even though generally perceived as a dominantly motor disorder, is associated with a wide range of non-motor symptoms, including mixed anxiety-depressive disorder (MADD).

Objectives: The aim of the presented study was to determine whether deep brain stimulation (DBS) of the subthalamic nucleus (STN) brings the functional characteristics of non-motor networks closer to the condition detected in healthy population and whether pre-DBS presence of MADD in PD patients was associated with different reaction to this therapeutic modality.

Methods: Resting-state fMRI signature elicited by STN DBS activation and deactivation in 81 PD patients was compared against healthy controls, with the focus on measures of efficiency of information processing and localised subnetwork differences.

Olfactory and cognitive performance share neural correlates profoundly affected by physiological aging. However, whether odor identification and discrimination scores predict global cognitive status and executive function in healthy older people with intact cognition is unclear. Therefore, in the present study, we set out to elucidate these links in a convenience sample of 204 independently living, cognitively intact healthy Czech adults aged 77.

Olomouc University Social Health Institute (OUSHI), Palacky University Olomouc, Univerzitní 22, 771 11, Olomouc, Czech Republic.

Objective: There is evidence that experiencing childhood trauma and life stressors across the lifespan together with lower resilience is associated with chronic pain-related conditions. The aim of this study was to explore the potential mediating role of resilience in the relationship between childhood trauma and long-term pain and to explore a possible moderating role of serious life stressors in the last year.

Methods: The participants, drawn from a representative sample of citizens of the Czech Republic (n = 1800, mean age: 46.

Article Synopsis
  • Sensory processing sensitivity (SPS) is a neurobiological trait gaining attention, but research on it is still limited and lacking efficient assessment tools.
  • A new tool, the Sensory Processing Sensitivity Questionnaire (SPSQ), was developed and shown to have strong psychometric properties, indicating it reliably measures SPS characteristics.
  • The study revealed that higher SPSQ scores were linked to women, students, and religious individuals, with more sensitive respondents experiencing greater anxiety and relationship difficulties during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Rationale: There is a persistent pressing need for valid animal models of cognitive and mnemonic disruptions (such as seen in Alzheimer's disease and other dementias) usable for preclinical research.

Objectives: We have set out to test the validity of administration of biperiden, an M1-acetylcholine receptor antagonist with central selectivity, as a potential tool for generating a fast screening model of cognitive impairment, in outbred Wistar rats.

Methods: We used several variants of the Morris water maze task: (1) reversal learning, to assess cognitive flexibility, with probe trials testing memory retention; (2) delayed matching to position (DMP), to evaluate working memory; and (3) "counter-balanced acquisition," to test for possible anomalies in acquisition learning.
