Developing bio-blends and biocomposites has become a widespread strategy to combat plastic pollution in line with sustainability principles and decarbonization necessities. Although chemically modified ternary and quaternary biocomposites are developing rapidly because of their broader processing and performance windows than single matrix and binary counterparts, a few have been reported about their biodegradation. Herein, diisocyanates-based chemically modified ternary biocomposites based on poly(butylene adipate-co-terephthalate), thermoplastic starch (TPS), poly(ε-caprolactone) (PCL), and cellulose (Mater-Bi/PCL/cellulose) are prepared and undergone soil burial biodegradation providing a broader perspective on biodegradation of complicated systems.

The absence of solvent molecules in high-resolution protein crystal structure models deposited in the Protein Data Bank (PDB) contradicts the fact that, for proteins crystallized from aqueous media, water molecules are always expected to bind to the protein surface, as well as to some sites in the protein interior. An analysis of the contents of the PDB indicated that the expected ratio of the number of water molecules to the number of amino-acid residues exceeds 1.5 in atomic resolution structures, decreasing to 0.

A unique chitin-laccase membrane was fabricated as an environmentally friendly biocatalytic platform, utilizing 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium acetate as the solvent for chitin. Observations using scanning electron microscopy showed that the chitin-laccase membrane possessed a uniform and densely packed structure. Based on the presence of FT-IR signals at 1020 cm and changes in the intensity of signals at 1540 cm and 1645 cm, the effectiveness of laccase immobilization was confirmed.

An eco-friendly method for the determination of sweeteners (aspartame, acesulfame-K) and preservatives (benzoic acid, sorbic acid, methylparaben, ethylparaben) in functional beverages and flavoured waters using thin film microextraction (TFME) and high-performance liquid chromatography with UV detection (HPLC-UV) was proposed. A series of fourteen green and renewable solidified natural deep eutectic solvents (NADESs) were prepared and tested as 'eutectosorbents' in TFME for the first time. In the proposed method, the NADES containing acetylcholine chloride and 1-docosanol at a 1:3 molar ratio was finally chosen to coat a support.

This study focuses on the synthesis, characterization, and application of four ionic liquids (ILs), three of which are being reported for the first time, with unique thermal properties and diverse anion-cation combinations, specifically in the context of epoxy resin polymerization. 1-3-Didodecylimidazolium dicyanamide (dDDIM DCA), 1-3-Didodecylimidazolium docusate (dDDIM DOSS), 1-ethyl-3-methylimidazolium dicyanamide (EMIM DCA), and 1-ethyl-3-methylimidazolium docusate (EMIM DOSS) were used to prepare six different mixtures with the same cation and with varying concentrations of DCA components, which is the main factor of an efficient polymerization, while the other component is intended to modify the properties of the cured resin. Mixtures based on EMIM cation demonstrated increased enthalpy and lower onset polymerization temperatures, indicating more efficient curing processes.

The study examined the degradation process of various types of polymers used to form models using the fused deposition modeling (FDM) and three-dimensional printing (3DP) methods and used in the investment casting method. Commercial filaments made of polylactide (PLA), acrylonitrile butadiene styrene terpolymer (ABS), high-impact polystyrene (HIPS), polyamide 12 (PA12), poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA), and polypropylene (PP) were used to produce gypsum molds. The assessment included organic volatile compounds (VOCs) released during mold heating and model degradation, which is characteristic of this technological process.

RNA molecules, essential for viruses and living organisms, derive their pivotal functions from intricate 3D structures. To understand these structures, one can analyze torsion and pseudo-torsion angles, which describe rotations around bonds, whether real or virtual, thus capturing the RNA conformational flexibility. Such an analysis has been made possible by RNAtango, a web server introduced in this paper, that provides a trigonometric perspective on RNA 3D structures, giving insights into the variability of examined models and their alignment with reference targets.

Novel hydrogel biocatalysts with immobilized lipase, stabilized by ionic liquids (ILs) of different hydrophobicity, were synthesized and evaluated. Variations of the time of immobilization and ratio of substrates during hydrogel synthesis were considered to obtain the most stable biocatalyst with the highest activity. Physicochemical characterization proved the success of the hydrogel synthesis and enzyme deposition on the surface of the support.

Although gypsum-based building materials exhibit many positive characteristics, solutions are still being searched for to reduce the use of gypsum or improve the physico-mechanical properties of board materials.
