The Yangtze River basin is one of the most species-rich regions for freshwater mussels on Earth, but is gravely threatened by anthropogenic activities. However, conservation planning and management of mussel species has been hindered by a number of taxonomic uncertainties. In order to clarify the taxonomic status and phylogenetic position of these species, mitochondrial genomes of four species (, , and ) were generated and analyzed along with data from 43 other mitogenomes.

The Ganjiang River has abundant fish resources, which plays a significant role in maintaining and replenishing the fish resources in Poyang Lake and the Yangtze River, and contains important habitat for migratory fish. However, fish diversity has rapidly declined in the Ganjiang River, especially migratory fish. In this study, 107 fish species (including 43 Chinese endemic species) were found in the middle and lower reaches of the Ganjiang River.

In mammals, signal transducer and activator of transcription 6 (STAT6) is a broad-spectrum transcriptional regulator involved in cellular immune responses and apoptosis by regulating the immune-related genes and various functional genes. The structure, expression and tyrosine-based phosphorylation of STAT6 are conserved from fish to mammal. However, except the sporadic reports from zebra fish, the function of fish STAT6 has not been well reported.

Willow residue biochar (BC) and modified biochars (hydrochloric acid washing (HBC), HBC loaded with nanoscale zero-valent iron (nZVI-HBC), and HBC loaded with ferric iron (Fe-HBC)) after aging were used for aqueous Cr(VI) removal. HBC (>98.67%), nZVI-HBC (>98.

The Yangtze River drainage in China is among the most species rich rivers for freshwater mussels (order Unionida) on Earth with at least 68 species known. The freshwater mussels of the Yangtze River face a variety of threats with indications that species are declining in abundance and area of occupancy. This study represents the first analyses of the genetic structure and diversity for the common and widespread freshwater mussel Nodularia douglasiae based on microsatellite DNA genotypes and mitochondrial DNA sequences.

This study investigated the levels of metal and metalloid elements (As, Ca, Cd, Cr, Cu, Fe, Hg, Mg, Ni, Pb, and Zn) in scalp hair samples collected from 161 people of different age and gender groups living in the six districts of Taiyuan, an industrial city with rich coal reserve in Shanxi province in China. Levels of most elements in the hair were high in the 26-40 age groups and increased with the length of residence. Calcium, Cr, Mg, Ni and Zn levels in the females' hair were significantly higher than those in the males' (p < 0.

As an upstream kinase of eIF2α, protein kinase RNA-like ER (endoplasmic reticulum) kinase (PERK) is a type I transmembrane protein located in ER in eukaryotic cells. PERK is mainly composed of two domains, the intracavitary domain for BIP protein combination and the dissociative C-terminal region containing a typical serine/threonine kinase domain which promotes the phosphorylation of eIF2α. In this study, we cloned a PERK (also known as EIF2AK3) gene from grass carp (Ctenopharyngodon idella).

In mammals, STAT3 (Signal transducer and activator of transcription 3) plays an important role in growth, multiplication, differentiation and participates in inflammation, tumorigenesis, metabolic disorders and immune response. STAT3 is a protein that shuttles between the nucleus and cytoplasm. Compared to the STAT3 in cell nucleus, we did not know the function of STAT3 in cytoplasm for a long time.
