There is a growing tendency in global discourse to describe a health issue as a security issue. But why is this health security language and framing necessary during times of crisis? Why is the term "health security" used when perhaps simply saying "public health" would do? As reference to 'health security' grows in contemporary discourse, research, advocacy, and policymaking, its prominence is perhaps most consequential in public health. Background: Fragile X syndrome (FXS) is a leading known genetic cause of intellectual disability and autism spectrum disorders (ASD)-associated behaviors. A consistent and debilitating phenotype of FXS is auditory hypersensitivity that may lead to delayed language and high anxiety. Benzene reduction by molecular complexes remains an important synthetic challenge, requiring harsh reaction conditions involving group I metals. Reductions of benzene, to date, typically result in a loss of aromaticity, although the benzene tetra-anion, a 10π-electron system, has been calculated to be stable and aromatic. This study presents a novel optimization algorithm known as the Energy Valley Optimizer Approach (EVOA) designed to effectively develop six optimal adaptive fuzzy logic controllers (AFLCs) comprising 30 parameters for a grid-tied doubly fed induction generator (DFIG) utilized in wind power plants (WPP). The primary objective of implementing EVOA-based AFLCs is to maximize power extraction from the DFIG in wind energy applications while simultaneously improving dynamic response and minimizing errors during operation. The performance of the EVOA-based AFLCs is thoroughly investigated and benchmarked against alternative optimization techniques, specifically chaotic billiards optimization (C-BO), genetic algorithms (GA), and marine predator algorithm (MPA)-based optimal proportional-integral (PI) controllers.

Identifying transitional states is crucial for understanding protein conformational changes that underlie numerous biological processes. Markov state models (MSMs), built from Molecular Dynamics (MD) simulations, capture these dynamics through transitions among metastable conformational states, and have demonstrated success in studying protein conformational changes. However, MSMs face challenges in identifying transition states, as they partition MD conformations into discrete metastable states (or free energy minima), lacking description of transition states located at the free energy barriers.

Each human genome has approximately 5 million DNA variants. Even for complete loss-of-function variants causing inherited, monogenic diseases, current understanding based on gene-specific molecular function does not adequately predict variability observed between people with identical mutations or fluctuating disease trajectories. We present a parallel paradigm for loss-of-function variants based on broader consequences to the cell when aberrant polypeptide chains of amino acids are translated from mutant RNA to generate mutated proteins.

The derivation of water quality criteria (WQC) for antibiotics is influenced by the inclusion of various organisms' toxicity data, including microbial data, though no definitive conclusions have been reached. This study focuses on sulfonamide antibiotics, common in the Yangtze River Delta (YRD), to assess the influences of different organisms' toxicity data on determining WQCs and subsequent evaluation of ecological risks. A total of 263 toxicity data points from eight sulfonamides, including sulfamethoxazole (SMX) and sulfamethazine (SM2), were selected to derive WQCs using Species Sensitivity Distribution (SSD) methods.

This article introduces an innovative multipurpose system that integrates a solar power plant with a coastal wind farm to generate refrigeration for refinery processes and industrial air conditioning. The system comprises multiple wind turbines, solar power plants, the Kalina cycle to provide partial energy for the absorption refrigeration cycle used in industrial air conditioning, and a compression refrigeration cycle for propane gas liquefaction. An extensive energy and exergy analysis was conducted on the proposed system, considering various thermodynamic parameters such as the solar power plant's energy output, the absorption chiller's cooling load, the electricity generated by the turbines, the wind turbines' power output, and the energy efficiency and exergy of each cycle within the system.
