Patient Experience of Herpes Zoster Disease in Argentina: Validation of a Health-Related Quality of Life Conceptual Model.

Objectives: Herpes zoster (HZ) substantially affects patients' health-related quality of life (HRQoL), both in the acute phase and also in those developing postherpetic neuralgia (PHN). Building upon a previous qualitative concept elicitation study in Canada, we adopted a similar approach to further understand the patient experience of HZ/PHN in Argentina and impact on quality of life and qualitatively validate the previously published conceptual model for Argentina.

Determinants of interactions of a novel next-generation gabapentinoid NVA1309 and mirogabalin with the Cavα2δ-1 subunit.

NVA1309 is a non-brain penetrant next-generation gabapentinoid shown to bind Cavα2δ at R243 within a triple Arginine motif forming the binding site for gabapentin and pregabalin. In this study we have compared the effects of NVA1309 with Mirogabalin, a gabapentinoid drug with higher affinity for the voltage-gated calcium channel subunit Cavα2δ-1 than pregabalin which is approved for post-herpetic neuralgia in Japan, Korea and Taiwan. Both NVA1309 and mirogabalin inhibit Cav2.

[Pricking-cupping combined with auricular thumbtack needle for postherpetic neuralgia of stagnation and blood stasis on chest and waist: a randomized controlled trial].

Objective: To observe the clinical effect of pricking-cupping combined with auricular thumbtack needle for postherpetic neuralgia (PHN) of stagnation and blood stasis on chest and waist.

Methods: A total of 98 patients with PHN of stagnation and blood stasis on chest and waist were randomized into an observation group (49 cases, 1 case was eliminated, 1 case dropped out) and a control group (49 cases, 1 case dropped out). In the observation group, treatment of pricking-cupping combined with auricular thumbtack needle was delivered, pricking and cupping were applied at Jiaji points (EX-B 2) at the related spinal segments corresponding to the pain sites and regional points, once every other day, auricular thumbtack needle was applied at Xin (CO), Shenmen (TF), Neifenmi (CO), Pizhixia (AT), etc.

Peripheral and central pathogenesis of postherpetic neuralgia.

Background: Postherpetic neuralgia (PHN) is a classic chronic condition with multiple signs of peripheral and central neuropathy. Unfortunately, the pathogenesis of PHN is not well defined, limiting clinical treatment and disease management.

However, permanent implantation of GGS was preferred in most treatment approaches. Few studies have investigated temporary GGS for the treatment of acute/subacute herpetic trigeminal neuralgia.

The varicella-zoster virus (VZV) is a human neurotropic herpes virus responsible for varicella and herpes zoster (HZ). Following primary infection in childhood, VZV manifests as varicella (chickenpox) and enters a period of latency within the dorsal root ganglion. A compromised cellular immune response due to aging or immunosuppression triggers viral reactivation and the development of HZ (shingles).
