The knowledge and attitude of researchers can affect the validity of laboratory animal (LAN) research. However, studies show that not all researchers possess the required knowledge and appropriate attitude for performing valid research on animals. This may have several reasons, such as high heterogeneity in the educational backgrounds of researchers in animal trials.

Prognostic accuracy of Whole Lung Perfusion Blood Volume as a predictor of 28-day Mortality in Acute Pulmonary Thromboembolism - A prospective study.

Background: The estimated incidence of pulmonary embolism (PE) is around 60-70 cases per 100,000 people annually. The overall mortality rate for massive PE is substantial, ranging from 18% to 65%. We can utilise changes in lung perfusion to stratify patients with PE acutely based on risk, highlighting its diagnostic and prognostic value.

Acceptability, Feasibility, and Effectiveness of Concurrent High-Definition Transcranial Direct Current Stimulation and Cue Exposure in Cannabis Use Disorder: A Pilot Double-Blind Randomized Controlled Trial.

Objectives: We studied the acceptability, feasibility, tolerability, and preliminary effectiveness of combined cue exposure and anodal high-definition transcranial direct current stimulation (HD-tDCS) on the right dorsolateral prefrontal cortex (DLPFC) on cannabis craving in cannabis use disorder (CUD).

Methods: We randomly assigned 48 participants equally in 4 groups: A, tDCS and cannabis cue exposure; B, tDCS and neutral image; C, sham tDCS and cue exposure; and D, sham tDCS and neutral image. The images were validated by Delphi consensus.

Building global collaborative research networks in paediatric critical care: a roadmap.

Paediatric critical care units are designed for children at a vulnerable stage of development, yet the evidence base for practice and policy in paediatric critical care remains scarce. In this Health Policy, we present a roadmap providing strategic guidance for international paediatric critical care trials. We convened a multidisciplinary group of 32 paediatric critical care experts from six continents representing paediatric critical care research networks and groups.

Topical Tacrolimus in Vitiligo: Consensus Paper from the Pigmentary Disorders Society.

Background: Tacrolimus, a topical calcineurin inhibitor (TCI) with immunomodulatory effects, is considered a viable treatment option for vitiligo. A consensus building exercise was undertaken to determine the role and clinical utility of topical tacrolimus in the management of vitiligo using input from experts in the field of dermatology.

Methods: Seventeen experts collaborated to create consensus statements using a modified Delphi methodology.

Atrial fibrillation (AF) remains the most common cardiac arrhythmia worldwide and is associated with significant morbidity and mortality. The European Society of Cardiology (ESC)/European Association for Cardio-Thoracic Surgery (EACTS) have recently released the 2024 guidelines for the management of AF. This review highlights 10 novel aspects of the ESC/EACTS 2024 Guidelines.

Medical research engagement among resident doctors in Nigeria: assessing knowledge, attitudes, and barriers in a public and private tertiary hospital in Nigeria.

Background: Medical research is an essential aspect of the training of resident doctors and is required by postgraduate medical colleges in Nigeria as part of the fulfilment of fellowship awards. However, research participation among resident doctors in Nigeria is low, despite seemingly high interest in research among resident doctors. The objective of our study is to examine the knowledge, attitudes, practices, and barriers related to medical research among resident doctors in a public and private tertiary care in Nigeria.

Surgical parameters affecting procedure duration of hysteroscopic fibroid resection: results of a retrospective longitudinal study.

Purpose: To identify and analyze the main surgical parameters affecting the operative time of hysteroscopic fibroid resection.

Methods: This retrospective observational study included 65 cases of outpatient hysteroscopic fibroid resection performed between March 2021 and May 2023 in outpatient office setting. Patients aged 18-50 with various indications such as infertility, recurrent pregnancy loss, or abnormal uterine bleeding (AUB) were included.

This study aimed to define the criteria for legal assessment of medical care violations. Today, medical incidents, particularly medical care violations, are not systematized and have no legal definitions. This complicates their legal assessment and does not allow for the necessary effectiveness of legal regulation of relations in the healthcare sector.

Intravitreal therapy for the management of diabetic retinopathy: A concise review.

Diabetic retinopathy (DR) is a serious microvascular complication of diabetes mellitus and may result in irreversible visual loss. Laser treatment has been the gold standard treatment for diabetic macular edema and proliferative diabetic retinopathy for many years. Of late, intravitreal therapy has emerged as a cornerstone in the management of DR.

Objective: To aid the shortage of general practitioners (GPs) in Germany, since 2011 medical specialists from other fields may switch specialisation by undergoing a slim-lined training programme (lateral entry) into general practice (GP). A main novel aspect in this context is the implementation of entrustable professional activities (EPAs). Native tissue repair of the female pelvic floor: A four-level surgical concept.

This review describes our experience with native tissue repair of the visceral pelvic fascia, the perineum, and anal sphincters in women. We propose that complex repair of the pelvic floor should consider vaginal support in all three anatomical Delancey's levels, together with more caudal structures-the external and internal anal sphincters. Original illustrations were created to facilitate the understanding of the complex anatomy of common multi-level defects.

Regional disparities and correlates of alcohol use during pregnancy in India: Insights from the National Family Health Survey-5.

Introduction: Alcohol use during pregnancy is a significant public health concern due to its adverse outcomes for the mother and developing fetus. This study aims to estimate the national and state-wise prevalence of alcohol use during pregnancy in India and examine associated social, demographic and health-related correlates using data from the National Family Health Survey (NFHS-5) conducted in 2019-2020.

Methods: Data from NFHS-5, a large-scale, nationally representative survey, were analysed.

Prioritising Competencies in Clinician Educator Training in Residency Programmes.

Introduction: Although Clinician Educator Tracks (CETs) have been developed for postgraduate trainees, more clarity is needed regarding which competencies are most relevant to resident and fellow physicians (housestaff) seeking to become Clinician Educators (CEs).

Methods: We used the Clinician Educator Milestones, an established framework for competencies at the faculty level, to perform a targeted needs assessment at a large academic institution from April-May 2023. Educational leaders in undergraduate (UME), graduate (GME) and senior medical education (SME) leadership roles were asked to prioritise the Clinician Educator Milestones subcompetencies for a 1-year track.

Simultaneous Remote Laparoscopic Training for Trainees Among Multiple Institutions: Can Remote Coaching Replace On-Site Coaching?

Introduction: Regional disparities in medical practice between urban and rural areas in Japan represent a critical issue, and extend to the field of surgical education. To address these disparities, we evaluated the effectiveness of simultaneous remote coaching across multiple facilities using a standardized laparoscopic training method.

Methods: A total of 28 trainees from a university hospital and 3 rural hospitals were categorized into remote and on-site coaching groups.

Coagulopathy in acute liver failure.

Acute liver failure (ALF) is a rare but rapidly progressing syndrome, marked by severe liver dysfunction and altered mental status. While definitions of ALF vary across different guidelines, with timelines ranging from 4 to 26 weeks between jaundice onset and encephalopathy, the key defining features remain encephalopathy and coagulopathy. Elevated coagulation markers, particularly prothrombin time and international normalized ratio, have traditionally been associated with bleeding risks.

Comparison of the analgesic efficacy of intra-articular steroid injections and its combination with suprascapular nerve block for adhesive capsulitis of the shoulder joint: a randomized clinical trial.

Background: Adhesive capsulitis is a distressing ailment that progressively limits the active and passive mobility of the shoulder joint. Physical therapy (PT) combined with intra-articular steroid (IAS) injection and suprascapular nerve block (SSNB) has shown improved functional outcomes.
