Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates the relationship between serum uric acid (SUA) levels and dyslipidaemia in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) to find an optimal SUA level for lower dyslipidaemia risk.
  • Researchers analyzed data from 1,036 T2DM inpatients and found that hyperuricaemia was significantly linked to a higher risk of dyslipidaemia and hypertriglyceridaemia.
  • Results suggest that managing SUA levels could help decrease the risk of dyslipidaemia in T2DM patients, indicating the importance of SUA in triglyceride metabolism related to insulin resistance.

Background/objectives: Increased free fatty acid (FFA) promotes adiponectin secretion in healthy subjects and induces inflammation in diabetes. Given the potential pro-inflammatory role of adiponectin in "adiponectin paradox", we performed this study in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) to assess the association of FFA with adiponectin and to investigate whether adiponectin mediates FFA-related inflammation.

Methods: This cross-sectional study consisted of adult patients with T2DM.

Article Synopsis
  • Mycophenolate mofetil (MMF) is commonly used as an immunosuppressant in transplantation but can cause gastrointestinal toxicity, with limited understanding of its metabolic effects.
  • In this study, mice were treated with MMF for two weeks, and a variety of metabolic changes were analyzed using gas chromatography-mass spectrometry and specific databases to understand the impacts on various organs.
  • The results revealed that MMF treatment altered metabolite levels in several organs and disrupted amino acid and fatty acid metabolism, while also increasing certain immune cell types without significantly affecting others.

Context: Podophyllotoxin (PPT) derivatives, used in cancer therapy, require development toward enhanced efficacy and reduced toxicity.

Objective: This study synthesizes PPT derivatives to assess their anticancer activities.

Materials And Methods: Compounds E1-E16 antiproliferative activity was tested against four human cancer cell lines (H446, MCF-7, HeLa, A549) and two normal cell lines (L02, BEAS-2B) using the CCK-8 assay.

T-2 toxin causes renal dysfunction with proteinuria and glomerular podocyte damage. This work explores the role of metabolic disorder/reprogramming-mediated epigenetic modification in the progression of T-2 toxin-stimulated podocyte injury. A metabolomics experiment is performed to assess metabolic responses to T-2 toxin infection in human podocytes.

Department of Orthopedics, Jining No.1 People's Hospital, Jining, China; School of Clinical Medicine, Jining Medical University, Jining, China. Electronic address:

The specific molecular mechanism of neuroprotective effects of wnt-3a on spinal cord injury (SCI) has not been elucidated. In our study, we evaluated the recovery of motor function after SCI by BBB, observed neuronal apoptosis by western blot and TUNEL, observed the changes of neuronal inflammation by western blot and immunofluorescence staining, and observed the changes of motoneurons and spinal cord area in the anterior horn of the spinal cord via Nissl and HE staining. We found that wnt-3a could significantly promote the recovery of motor function, reduce the loss of motor neurons in the anterior horn of the spinal cord, promote the recovery of injured spinal cord tissue, inhibit neuronal apoptosis and inflammatory response, and ultimately promote neuronal function after SCI.

Factors associated with nocturnal and diurnal glycemic variability in patients with type 2 diabetes: a cross-sectional study.

J Endocrinol Invest

January 2024

Department of Endocrinology, Jining No. 1 People's Hospital, 6 Jiankang Road, Rencheng District, Jining, 272000, Shandong, China.

Purpose: There is little information on factors that influence the glycemic variability (GV) during the nocturnal and diurnal periods. We aimed to examine the relationship between clinical factors and GV during these two periods.

Methods: This cross-sectional study included 134 patients with type 2 diabetes.

As there is currently no effective therapy for patients with prostate cancer (PCa) bone metastasis, it was stringent to explore the relevant treatment strategies. Actually, the interaction between cancer cells and bone microenvironment plays important role in prostate cancer bone metastasis, especially the Sonic hedgehog protein (SHH) signaling in the bone microenvironment. The SHH promotes osteoblast maturation and osteoblast then secretes RANKL to induce osteoclastogenesis.

Droplet digital PCR as an emerging tool in detecting pathogens nucleic acids in infectious diseases.

Clin Chim Acta

June 2021

The Laboratory of Medical Mycology, Jining No. 1 People's Hospital, Jining 272111, China; Department of Dermatology, Jining No. 1 People's Hospital, Jining, Shandong Province, China. Electronic address:

The microbial infectious diseases (infectious diseases) represent the leading global public health problem, and the effective treatment depends on rapid and accurate detection of pathogens. Droplet digital PCR (ddPCR), a new assay that combines microfluidics technology with TaqMan-based PCR, provides absolute quantification without the need of the standard curves. With the development of ddPCR, it has become an ideal tool for microorganism detection.
